Sure. Most graphics cards will happily rotate existing monitors, so what you're basically suggesting is getting something like a 2048x1280 central monitor and putting a pair of 1280x768 monitors on the side, rotated through 90 degrees. Just be sure to get a good monitor bracket that lets you physically rotate the screen.
Would look pretty smart I bet, and would extend your viewing area nicely without suffering from extended FOV nearly so much.
Good tips. I'd forgotten about rotating the screen, so I really couldn't find anything of the *right* size. Nobody makes narrow-width screens, hehehe ...
Yeah, the FOV is a big one for me. Lot's of space games, etc. My peripheral vision is something I rely on in real life, and am always feeling very limited because games (or more importantly, monitors) don't tend to do much with them.
Thanks for the tips, though.

Here's my log file of a successful launch. You can see the difference; it's the monitor modes that appear to be your problem:

Edited by: Digital Bear on 05/03/2009 06:06:46 So i tried your setup with 1.09 and it didn't work. All I get is a white screen in the center monitor. I hear the game and can move the mouse over buttons but it's still just the center screen. I can't seem to figure out what's wrong with my setup. Maybe it's Vista x64. or the 8800gts's but I can't even seem to get it to go to the 2 side screens.
And why don't i have a portrait?

Could you please post a log of your attempt, your current config file (from C:\Users\<yourusername>\softth.cfg) and the resolutions of your screens? -

If no log file was generated, it didn't hook.
Assuming you have all the files in that SoftTH folder, your shortcut is correct.
In your config, amend/add the following:
[config] deviceIDLeft=auto deviceIDright=auto secondaryWidth=auto secondaryHeight=auto secondaryRefresh=auto
[Direct3D] forceResolutionWidth=0 forceResolutionHeight=0 doScaleClientRects=0
[modes] auto
Copy the softth.cfg file to (assuming that's WinNT5 I'm looking at) C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\softth.cfg -

Very strange. I've looked over your config and it's fine and in the right location, as are the necessary SoftTH files. The only thing I can see that's different is the "Start In" attribute for the shortcut; You've got a trailing slash (C:\Eve\SoftTH\) where I don't (C:\Eve\SoftTH)... but surely that wouldn't make a difference? -

I had the same problem. If you're not running XP, make sure you edit the shortcut. Under the compatibility tab, check the box to run in compatibility mode for XP. That at least got the game to start up, hook, and create a log.
Now my problem is that the game starts up on only one screen, and is all white. It's still running, but all white. I'm running Windows 7 Beta x64, which I suspect is the problem (drivers I mean). Also, I've got a 8800GTS and 7800GT, and a 1680x1050 as my primary and 1440x900's as my side monitors. On the off chance I can get it to work, here's my config file and log. Any help?

Update: got it working! kinda... All I did was copy the SoftTH file in the Eve folder, and paste it in my User folder. On startup, I'm triple screen. But... the right screen is totally black. I can still use the X at the top right corner to close, so I know it's "there", just not being rendered or something. So I log in anyways, and take a screenshot. That screenshot shows the full 3-screen resolution, whereas in-game I'm only seeing black on the right third. Any ideas on that one?

Success! I originally had my center and right monitor plugged into the 8800GTS, and my left monitor plugged into the 7800GT. Out of curiosity, I plugged both the side monitors into the 7800GT, and left the 8800GTS to run only the center. And booyah, all monitors working in-game. Thanks for the hard work, Camilo, I kept referring to your posts the whole time trying to do this.

The distortion is a function of the game's rendering engine - if you run in single screen mode, you'll notice as you pan round past a planet that you see the same distortion even when running in a fairly normal 16:10 or 16:9 resolution. Running a triplehead setup like this simply highlights an existing problem with the game and the inability to manually alter the engine's field of vision, so I'm afraid at present there is no way to remedy this.
The "Fix" for me was to simply cover the left and right screens with information windows (fitting screens and chat panels in station & scanners, overview, chat and fleet windows in space. The expanded overview more than makes up for the field of vision "distortion" (which really isn't distortion - it's just the way eve and most games render 3D images). -

It already can. If you have Nvidia, just set your dual monitors to "horizontal span". They have to have the same resolution and refresh rate for this to work. After that, you can simply select the resolution in EVE itself (2560x1024 for me, for example). |
