Did the last patch change the nature of exploration? For some unexplained reason I've only managed to find cosmic anomalies from quest probes. There have been multiple multispectral hits but no exploration sites were found.
Either there are a lot of explorers finding them or I think something has changed in the last patch. Because for the last 2 weeks I have not found a single cosmic signature...

Edited by: Matthew Cooper on 22/01/2009 17:24:42 I just started exploring in the past 10 or so days, and I've managed to find:
1 x Base 2 Hacking Site 3 x Base 3 Hacking Site
1 x Archaeology site, I forget which base level it was.
All in low security space (0.1-0.3), got result with quest in less than 90 minutes in each case, with minimal skills. (Astrometrics III, Acquisition/Triangulation I)
I have to wonder - are you SURE you're selecting Cosmic Signature from your scan groups, and not Cosmic Anomaly instead? |

^^this
Just in the past week when I have had time to jump online I have found 2 unknown sites, a mag site and a grav site which my corp cleaned out. Exploration is operating as intended. |

I had 3 sites (1 x RADAR and 2 x Magneto) in the same system last night, with another RADAR next door.
You are either choosing Anomaly instead of Signature or you are having really bad luck. I think it's the first one One Girls Journey through the EVE Universe |

This but it can be both. I have had occasions where Exploration sites seem all over and others nights where I cannot find one to save my life. Chances that one is in system and no one did it before you occasionally pile up against you.

I am glad the system is working as intended. When prompted I choose Cosmic signature, cosmic anomaly & a third one of my choice when running a scan.

Unless you are in 0.0, I would forget about the Cosmic Anomalies when using your probes.
The payout from highsec anomalies is not good enough to justify spending time chasing them. However I understand how it is to go 10 systems and not find a site, so you will take anything. In that case after I do my multispec fo Signatures, if it turns up nothing I do it again for Anomalies, this way I don't get the two mixed up.
If you know that there's an anomaly in the system thanks to the Multispec, then you don't even need probes anymore at that point. Just warp from planet to planet starting with Planet I and scan for the anomaly with your onboard scanner until you hit it.
Also remember that if you are in lowsec faction warfare space that Faction Warfare plexes show up as cosmic anomalies too (thanks for that CCP .

Just a tip: The onboard scanner isn't failproof. Atleast in 0.0 you often got no hits using onboard scanner even if there is an anomality within scanrange.
I've verified this serveral times. |

Edited by: Ace Secunda on 23/01/2009 18:08:16 I have been scanning for two weeks now and have NEVER had an anomaly show on a multispectral, they only seem to show up on quests or smaller. As for scanning the 'unknown/plex' sites, it seems to depend on the quality how hard they are to find, I have found 4/10 and equivalent plex's in two or three scans but it has taken upto two hours to find a few 8/10 and 9/10's, on a whole it would seem Radar, Mega and gravi sites of all qualaties are a lot easier to find but if your multispec says there is an 'unknown' in system dont give up, you will get it eventually, just cross your fingers and hope it isn't the bloody drones!!! |
