I've been studying the supply and demand maps in my home region. I can't find a single trade good that can be purchased in one place for a given price and sold in another place for a profit. Am I missing something? Are trade items just there for show, but useless for active player trading? If they are there for a reason, can anyone give an idea of a trade route and explain how it works?
Second question: Where, if anywhere, can someone buy stock in a corp one's not a member of? |

For trade goods you usually have to do inter region jumps. If you can buy it in one region, usually no one in the same region will buy it, if so not for a profit. Try differnt regions.
As for vouchers, I haven't tried since release, but in beta corporations could sell vouchers on the market. I sold 1000 shares for 10K each which gave the share holders votes in my corporation. (But like most things, it prolly don't work anymore.) Seems like we're going backwards from beta sometimes. **I'm a flower, watch me blossom... and kill** |

You can trade in shares. Im not sure exactly how, or where, but ive seen people who have made money off of doing it (buying shares cheap, and then selling them for more later).

without giving away your best trade routes, can you give an example of one that works?

Ok, so the margin is small, but it's there to find if you look long enough. What kind of clues do you look for to find a place where a thing would be good to buy or sell? For example, would a system where an item is in demand but which has zero of that item available typically be the kind of place to look for as an endpoint for a trade route?
Basically, I'd like to find a way to make some money that is not about blowing something up and does not involve mining, just to see if it's workable. If it is, I'm thinking it might be an interesting business to set up a delivery service.

Well, if you know how to use Excel, then you should best open a spreadsheet.
What I do is hit a border system between two regions and start comparing prices. I write down best sell price and quantity as well as best buy and quantity. Fly to the other region and do the same. I always find a route with some sort of profit. The good routes will only appear after you map out several different regions and get used to the supply and demand of those regions.
But there are some minor trades you can do to start within regions such as electronic components in lonetrek. Only a 20-40 isk profit per item, but as you expand your cargo capacity this profit will expand as well.
Big profits require large capital and lots of cargo capacity. If your just breaking in, it may take a while before you see these profits.
There are many other nuances you may or may not learn after playing around, but I will let you find those on your own. Spend enough time with the market and you will see why it's the most profitable route to take.

Sorry Drew, I'm a loner! :)
But feel free to email me in game at this name and I'll be willing to share a few hints. I just don't like to post em up here for all the world to see :)
It's not easy by any means, but once you have a certain amount in capital you can make some good cash.
Not only can you make your skills work for you while offline, but you can make your capital work as well. Add to that, if your willing to leave yourself logged in, you can go AFK and make your ship work for you as well!

Drewbicus, It is best to focus on few goods to learn there best prices and to have a clue were good prices can normaly be found.
Since I¦m not planing on traiding again I can tell you that taiding with spirits can bring alots of isk. If you can find it on 428 (the lowest price there is I think) and sell it on 526 (the highest price I thik) you can make 490 isk per cargo unit. On a bestower you can get ~3,5 mills in one trip.
I would give you the location on this rout if I could remember it, it was somwhere in amarr space.
You can contact me in game and I¦ll see if can dig something up for you
