Hi there.
Was sorting out the port forwarding on my router to improve my PS3 connection when it struck me I could probably improve my Eve performance as well.
Does anyone know which ports it uses? Not bothered about Eve Voice Chat - which was the only result I could track down when searching... _____________________ I'm not afraid to die My soul will carry on You can't kill me I'm Imortal |

Eve uses port 26000.

Ah, thanks for that. Is that UDP and TCP? _____________________ I'm not afraid to die My soul will carry on You can't kill me I'm Imortal |

Pardon my ignorance, but how would this improve performance? Does an Eve server need to initiate a connection to the client for any reason?
The only thing I can think of is if their patching system uses P2P connections, but that wouldn't be game performance...unless you are talking about downloading patches in the first place.

Outbound connection from your computer to the server's TCP port 26000. Eve does not require any inbound connections.
Port forwarding will not improve performance with Eve, but with some other games (such as an FPS) it can allow two clients to connect directly with each other instead of relaying through a server.
The port information can also be used to configure QoS on some routers to provide preference in sending Eve data over other outbound data. It is unlikely that a consumer internet connection will have any options to manage QoS for inbound traffic, but again it could be used in theory.

Hmmm, ok - was just a thought.
Setting the correct ports on the router for the PS3 made Tekken run 100% better, never failing to log in (whereas before it was a nightmare).
I just wondered if somethig similar would improve Eve - apparently not.
Thank you everyone for your help. _____________________ I'm not afraid to die My soul will carry on You can't kill me I'm Imortal |

One obvious way that defining a fixed port forwarding rule will help is that you are no longer held hostage by routers whose NAT tables fill up due to poor garbage collection :)
