First of all, let me admit that I was being careless.
I was doing some consolidating of my holdings recently which brought me from one end of the galaxy to the other collecting various items that I have left here and there. In the process I created a buy order for an item. 80mil was taken from my account and put into escrow. Now I want to cancel the buy order because I need the ISK, and I can't find the money. I don't see that anyone came through on the buy order...so I don't have the item. I'm not sure where I placed the order and I don't even know if that has anything to do with it, but the order could have been placed up to 35 jumps from my current location. Can someone please tell me how I can find out what is going on and where either the item or the money is?

open your market window, go to the 'My Orders' tab, right click the buy order, cancel order, and your isk will be put back into your wallet.

Try this: Go to "Market" and then on the top part of the window there is "My Orders" or something to that affect. In there should be a list of all your buy and sell orders and you can use it to find the 80 M one you are looking for.
If it isnt there, you either didn't place it, it expired, or it was filled. To see if it was filled, you can go to your "wallet" then "transactions" then load it. If you want, you can narrow the search to the item the order was for.
Hope that helps.

My post assumes that you know enough about trading mechanics to figure out what a buy order looks like and where you can modify/cancel it. I'll proceed on the assumption that the buy order no longer exists.
Buy orders don't mysteriously vanish into the ether. There are three things that could have happened to it: it was filled, you canceled it, it expired. In the latter two possibilities, you already have the isk. In the first one, it got filled and you didn't notice. For this last eventuality, your best bet is to click 'Assets' and do a search for the item type. That should pull up their location(s).

i know how to cancel a buy order as I've done it before
the item is nowhere to be seen in my assets, and I could not have accidentally picked it up because i haven't a ship with a hold large enough to hold a Hulk
I have checked my assets and it is nowhere to be seen
the money has not been transferred back into my account

Edited by: flakeys on 29/12/2008 21:06:11 Now did or did you not buy the item because i am getting double sides from your 2 posts.
First off appearantly you know about wich item it goes and know what the price for it was.So options are:
-open market tab then open your order tab and check if you got the order for that item there. If so cancel. -check if you havent set out a corp order instead of your own in wich case when the item was bought it would fall under corp deliveries instead of your own assets -check your wallet history for said item or price change. -check if you don't have a locked down stationhangar somewhere because a forgotten bill and the item could be there
If you check out these 4 you should find it , even if through some bug the item never appeared in your item box one of these should still see if there ever was such a transaction.
Good luck with it

I don't know if this particular "feature" is around any longer (mostly because my orders seldom expire and it never has any noticable inpact on my wallet), but I think it used to be possible to have market orders expire (time out) and not return the escrow isk until after next downtime.

I've opened up the market tab. The order is not there. I confirmed that it was there when I set the buy order because I remember double checking to see that I was offering more than anyone else.
We are a small corp. My friends have checked and I did not set this up as a corp buy order.
My wallet shows the deduction of 80mil from my account into escrow. It does not show that amount returned at a subsequent date and time.
I don't know what a locked down stationhangar is. How would i check to see if I have one of these?

If that order expired, you will get your ISK after next DT. The order is completly invisible in time period between its expiration and next DT. Maybe CCP will fix it one day.

I know of at least one case where a buy order was placed, no items were delivered and the isk was lost.
This was during empyrian age. Presuming you know the details you can petition for a refund. I doubt CCP wants to wade through your wallet history to figure it out for you though.

Edited by: Motivated Prophet on 30/12/2008 14:00:46 Weeee pseudocode (and pseudo-BASIC, at that!):
Step 1: Check journal, see if the ISK is returned. If yes, stop. If not: Step 2: Check transactions. See if an item was bought. If yes, go to 5. If not: Step 3: Did the order expire? If yes, wait one full downtime, then go to 1. If no, or if you've already waited that long: Step 4: Petition. Stop. Step 5: Check your personal assets and corp deliveries. If you've found it, stop. If not: Step 6: It's been moved. Check everywhere, including all your current and former corpmates if it was bought with corp funds. If you still can't find it, go to 4.

What seems strange to me is that a packed hulk is really small, like 2500m3 I think. You are really sure you couldn't have taken it by mistake?

I didn't realize it was that small. Problem solved though. The game is bugged. The buy order expired. The game did not credit my account until this mornings reset.

All expired orders appear in wallet after downtime.
