Hi guys,
I've only started playing eve about a month or so and my toon has currently just under 3mill SP and I'm doing lvl 3s in my myrmidon without much difficulties. I'm wondering how much SP is needed to actually be able to fly and fit a BS properly for lvl 4s, I currently have about a week to go before I can actually fly a BS. I'm probably aiming for either a Dominix or a Megathron as my toon is skilled towards armor tanking and drones. |

Not sure on the SP, but I originally flew LvL 4 missions with a little over 2m sp. I had to warp out often back then nd lost one or 2 BS.
Now you have the mission guides to assist you, the lost ships should be zero if you manage the spawns correctly.
3m sp should be fine if they include bs to at least 3 ( get this to 5 if you're going to be a mission runner) a fully fit T2 tank and decent drone skills to enable you to kill the elite frigates that will be scramming you.
You may want to use a domi with a dual rep tank until you get the hang of things. The missions will be slow at first until you can hold enough sp in the right places to whiz through them.
Good luck. |

if you want to fly lvl4s halfway safe, your main goals should be: - tank + dps = 1000 - T2 light drones (hobgoblins or warriors are usually preferred) - reading up on every mission to avoid unnecessary problems
how many SP you need to get there depends on the ship you're flying as well as how many unrelated but useful skills you are training (such as science, social, planetary interaction etc.). |

IMO for level 4 missioning in a BS you need: 1. Full Tech 2 tank. 2. Tech 2 light and medium drones. 3. BS skill at a minimum of III 4. All cap skills at a minimum of IV
This is pretty much the core and you can work on your other skills as you do the missions, but these set of skills will usually ensure you keep your ship intact when you start level 4s. |

To spin some of the other suggestions in another way: T2 tank + cap stable. At least play around in the fitting window and see what you can run and what you can't to not run out of cap. If you can run your tank and maybe a prop mod full time you should be able to complete the mission. How long it takes will depend on your DPS skills but as long as you aren't dead you still have a chance. :P |

It is no fun at all to fly L4s in a BS if you haven't raised your support skills as mentioned above. No fun at all. |

Aim for a Dominix with 350mm rails of the highest T1 meta you can afford and a drone link. Then fit an AB, cap recharger IIs and an Omni in the mids. For the lows, start with an over-strong tank of DCU, 4x mission specific hardeners, a LAR II and a MAR II until you have the skills to replace the MAR with a Mag Stab. In the rigs, take two aux nano pumps and a CCC.
For drones, I would suggest t2 lights and mediums with t1 heavy and sentries.
Running over-tanked and cap stable should be a priority until you can learn the ship and missions. |

Thanks to all of you for your insightful views and inputs, really appreciate all of them. I'm currently looking at one of battleclinic's PvE fits for the dominix and I'm training towards that. I've gotten T2 hardeners and reps, currently aiming for T1 sentries and possibly T2 guns (good god, takes forever). Just a quick question, do sentries do more damage to BS rats then lets say, T2 hammerheads? |

Yes, they do. They are like battleship-size guns.
As what comes to the topic, it takes about six months of training to fly an active armor tanked drone battleship properly.
T2 Sentry drones T2 Heavy drones Drone Interfacing V Drone support skills at least IV T2 Large hybrid turrets Gunnery support skills at least IV Gallente Battleship V Cap skills at V Advanced Weapon Ugrades and other fitting skills at least IV Navigation skills at least IV
As you can see, "properly" is highly subjective.

Now that's what I'm talking about, setting a standard. From your point I can see that I'm less than halfway to flying an active armor tanked drone battleship properly. Well, at least now I have a goal to work towards, thanks Roime |

If you want to fly a domi, make T2 sentry drones your priority. I wouldn't fly one without. Drone interfacing to IV and Gallente Battleship to IV. But those T2 sentry drones make all the difference. |

Unfortunately, they do a load less - so much so that they are effectively useless. You must contract them all to me and I will make sure that they get 'sent out to pasture'. |

This. Forget T2 guns for now and get T2 sentries. The rest can fall into place later. |

Well, your OP said "properly." This fit is more about max. Proper means minimal. By the time you fly a BS in PVE you should have t2 tank and be cap stable as said above. BS V and T2 weapons are Optional upgrades you do later if you decide you like doing level 4 missions and want to do them faster. |

Semantics aside, yes, my subjective view is based on the principle of progression- maxing ship classes before moving to the next one. Also consider other areas of the game, not just missioning. You might get much more tangible benefits from maxing out a Myrmidon, than from rushing into a Dominix.
You'll do fine with level IV skills in most cases, but whatever anyone might say, proper (tm) Domi has T2 Sentries and/or Heavies. It's your main weapon, and there is a major difference in performance from T1 > T2.

Thank you for affirming what I said. Satisfactory is adequate. Adequate is minimal. I can copypasta the dictionary entry for satisfactory for you, but you are obviously capable of looking it up yourself.

This is very true. If a player decides they prefer fighting ships over trade or industry, getting T2 weapons is worth it. I'm just saying that the OP does not need to be able to fit that T2 work of art you posted before he even tries a level 4. |

I recall running 4s in an active-tanked Raven with t1 launchers and a t2 tank. That wasn't all that difficult. T2 drones, even if just scout drones, helps a lot. T2 sentries with a domi are really nasty, so that can be a good way to go, but the t2 sentry grind can be very slow. |

I have a ls alt I trained into a raven. It has just over 5 mil SP. That will give you Caldari BS4, all the supporting skills to 4, T2 tank, T2 drones and T2 cruise missiles. I have no problems running lvl4's solo. Still not entirely sure why I did this tbh.. must have been bored. This alt is mainly a hauling alt, so barely gets used |

Well, I did my first L4 in a domi yesterday, I had to warp out once because I used the wrong hardeners *facepalm*. Another time because the dps by the rats were a bit too much for my tank especially with one BS rat up in my face (EoM Machariel <10km). I did say it was not too bad since I only lost a hammerhead because I panicked a bit since I wasn't used to the new optimal range and the speed of the domi (<100m/s, good gawd it's slow). I might swap out mag stabs for cap power relays since it's not cap stable and train up my hybrid turret and drone skills for maximum dps. |

Sounds like youre on the right track then. Youl probably find your fit will change as you learn, taking fits from battleclinic etc is a good way to start but youl want to change little bits to suit your needs and play style eventually.

Above advise might help to prevent some losses. I started flying battleships at around 5m SP although running lvl 4 missions was quite slow, especially since I fitted tank over gank. When I started out I would fit resistances for each mission while these days I just fly an omniresist tank.
Cap stable is nice but not required.
My main reason for switching from BC to BS was the increased tank. Myrmidon to Dominix is not the biggest increase in DPS (I was depending 100% on drones for damage (when playing my gallente alt, not my beautiful caldari missile *****) with just 1 gun for agressions and salvagers/tractors. Now I have better gunnery skills and fit guns since they do add significant damage. |
