The eve client is using 90% of my Radeon 4870's gpu when I'm viewing the login screen, character selection screen and the docking station. It makes my graphics card go, "Waaaah!"
My only issue is with the docking station, since I spend long peroids of time there. I've found a way of avoiding the problem, by opening the map, but I'd like to be able to enjoy the beauty of the docking station in peace, without my graphics card screaming bloody murder. Is there a solution?

ps - Is this worthy of a bug report? _______________________________________ Pull a lever, push a button, have a banana, die.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Aerics, I would be very concerned to get a bsod. Do you find that opening the map makes a difference?
Os1r1s, I suppose you're right. If I underclocked my gpu enough it might keep the temps down and prevent the fan from going crazy, but that's a sledgehammer - I'd rather use a scalpel.
It's so strange to me that an innocuous part of the game would stress the graphics card so much... _______________________________________ Pull a lever, push a button, have a banana, die.

I'm still trying to find a reason for this. Perhaps I should keep out of stations for now

At least I know it's not just my computer. I hope we can get some attention to this issue, even though it's not, "omgwtf!" for everyone.
I'm going to report it and encourage others to do the same. Still, it would be nice if we could get a response here... _______________________________________ Pull a lever, push a button, have a banana, die.

Add me to the list of people this happens to.
Only happens in Station Laptop GPU can hit 90c outside drops to below 65c..
Very Very Odd.. CCP - Can you fix this please.
Setting the "Preset Interval" to one does help but not nearly enough.

Indeed, I changed the presentation interval to default and my card is a bit cooler when viewing the docking station. I tried other settings, but they had no further effect. Anyway, thanks for that bit of advice!
Still, the gpu gets worked like a dog, hitting 100%. _______________________________________ Pull a lever, push a button, have a banana, die.

Edited by: H3lo on 26/12/2008 22:23:37 Same problem here, when docked in station, my 8800GT keeps buzzing, after reading this i've checked my graphic card temp, its under heavy load all the time.
My ingame fps in station is around 160, when the fps drops, the graphic card stops buzzing. Changing the interval to default makes the buzzing sound quiter, but still very unpleasant.
The buzzing sound is really loud and annoying, and can still be heard(less lound) even if the EVE window is minimalised. Could this be solved as soon as possible, as it makes playing eve while docked almost impossible?
thanks

Soooooo... enable v-sync? Your graphics card is pumping out frames as much as it can because it isn't limited. Enable interval default in your graphics setting, and your useage should go right down. _
