So I'm a PvP player looking to make ISK with an alt. I have about 3 billion ISK with which to buy another character or I can start from scratch. I'm basically a noob when it comes to industry, trading, and anything not PvP related.
If buying an established char, which type should I go for to get a return on my investment quickly?
I'm not really looking to do missions.
My thoughts are trading or ice mining (have a safe place to do this but would be totally solo). I don't really know much about trading. I mean I understand the concept of buy low / sell high and what not but I'm a noob when it comes to the market in Eve. So what about ice mining? How much can one make an hour by themselves in a Mack / Hulk?
I'd like to make around a half billion a week, is this realistic?
HELP.

You could try the ol' CNR contract scamming in Jita, Seems that those guys get lucky more often than you would imagine. If you managed to get 2 fish a week that would more than meet your half a bil goal I would think ;)

If you have access to higher end belts, mineral mining's your best bet. ABCM - Arkanor, Bistot, Crokite, Mercoxit.
Personally, I find that Crokite has better economic return than Bistot, but that's just me. Mining is only efficient with two accounts, honestly. One miner who never leaves the belts, one hauler to return material to a station from the jetcans who can hop in a combat ship to clear the belts. An alternative that works for me is just sticking to a Hulk with a pair of Cargo Expander IIs. 13k in the hold is half a jetcan, so its not overly inefficient to warp to the station with it.
Ice mining is ok, but I don't believe it returns as well as the regular rocks. You're in direct competition with the macros in empire, and alliances that have regular ice mining ops when the need arises. You can make some decent money if you can get your refined goods to low sec systems regulared by capital pilots who sometimes find themselves in a fuel pinch. Even though fuel is 300-400 ISK/unit four jumps away, its easier to bite the 600 ISK/unit fuel in the station just to get by.
Trading requires a massive initial investment of ISK, then you really need to watch the markets for a month to get a feel for what moves and what does not. Plus you're up against kamikaze's in the trade hubs looking for juicy targets. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

High end trade is without a doubt the most profitable activity in the game. I spent a year and a half casually grinding missions and all I had to show for it was about 3 Bil ISK. Then I trained a trading/hauling alt and turned that 3 Bil into 20 Bil in about 3 months. --------

What do you trade/haul? Into low/null sec?

Beg in Jita. Much easy ISK to be had in that endeavor. And you only have to type in the beg once. After that, just hit ctrl-up arrow and then enter every 5 minutes or so. Watch the ISK roll in from gullible idiots.

I'm not saying you should do it, but Corp theft can net you a tiddy sum.

The easiest way to make ISK is... *drumroll* ...buy GTCs, split into PLEX, sell in Jita44

I'm reluctant to say what I trade and where because I don't want to shoot myself in the foot. What I will say is that I put in buy orders in major hubs and then move the stuff to other areas and sell at very profitable markups. I have a continuing circular trade-route consisting of about 30 systems that I visit to sell my goods. Yes, some of them are in low sec and null sec but the bulk of my profits comes from high sec areas. --------

Wow! These things are awesome! I'm going to start using them. How do I switch from credit card billing to using PLEX's? --------

Try to use one ingame (you can use it from assets anywhere in the galaxy) and you should get the details. If you're feeling paranoid, you can cancel subscription, wait until 1 day before expiration, and only then use the PLEX.

Exactly what I was thinking.
To sum it up, I made a fair bit of ISK ratting in 0.0 when I had access. But it took years and I relied on getting rare spawns rather than spending all my time grinding (though I did that too). I also sold three chars in the last five years. Other than selling chars I haven't made much ingame since around 2005. There's lots of new stuff now that wasn't out then and I'm wanting to get into it or at least know more about it. I see all these people getting super rich that started way after I did and I am in awe of it.
Also, I know I can get ISK buying GTCs or selling chars but I want a steady stream of it, something dependable, not the occasional lump sum.

well my thoughts are if you have 3 bill with a pvp char I think I would stick with what your doing :)
mining is over rated to many bot feeding the builders for cheap mins both ore and ice but if you can do crock and higher go for it spend the 3 bill on a lvl5 exhumers with good cap and eng skills so you can rig and tank for 0.0
....................... 10.5 hours a day do you have what it takes ?
