Welp, more MD veterans are leaving this forum.
Hexxx, Treelox, Shar Tegral
Any comments on the likely impact on ingame financial activities as CCP continues to ignore the high finance players' need for a separate market forum that has some measure of accountability (you must login with actual account info before posting)
And no, I don't plan on having any sort of long drawn out argument on how badly CCP botched the call on the decision to move MD rather than create a new forum.
Where do you think this forum is headed, and how will the total lack of support of the high stakes financial market on the part of CCP impact the ingame playing experience? Has anyone already noticed a difference? What difference?

It's one of those self-fulfilling prophecy things. People think it's getting worse and instead of hanging in or trying to improve, they leave, after which they can say "See it's getting even worse".

Take a minute, and think about what you just posted... "the likely impact on ingame financial activities" as referred to "leaving the forum".
IF the following people are to l33t for this forum why don't they use another forum and leave quietly. Instead everyone must insist on posting their sad ****y farewell. Crying that the game is slowly dieing. And how the noobs dont respect them and there infinite knowledge of a fictional reality. Every game I have ever played its always the same story. Tbh I think that moving the forum to the top has had little to do with anything.
It's more the current weakness of the IPO/Bond market coupled with the somtimes bizzare moderation of the forum.
The 'community' feel that this forum previously enjoyed has been lessened somewhat in recent months so I can see why the old-timers feel that it's no longer worth hanging out here. However, long-term, I don't think there will be any great change. New people will emerge as the champions of MD. --------------------------------------

I personally think that moving the forum up and hence getting more people to participate was the right thing to do. But maybe that is because I have yet to experience the depths of idiocy that exist amongst the EVE player base - but I'm old enough to have been around the block a few times, so maybe I'm just more tolerant and don't bother reading threads that don't look like they are of interest.
However, I have personally found that some members of the 'veterans club' generate as much unhelpful commentary as they do useful, and having seen some of them effectively chase people out of 'their' patch on this forum - well, if that results in them going elsewhere, I think the forum will be better off for it.
And let's think about that for a minute - are any of these peeps really leaving MD because it moved up a few slots in the forum list? Well, that thought makes me laugh, if nothing else!
I don't believe this will have much impact on ingame financial activities - for every person leaving the game, there is someone who will spot the opportunity and move in. None of us is irreplaceable in this world. And if there really is a need for the 'high finance players' to talk about things that us younger, less well off players wouldn't understand or be able to participate in - they'll find a spot to do so.
Where is the forum headed? Well, pretty much in the same direction it always has been, but hopefully with less aggressive and snarky commentary by some of the 'veterans'. It would be nice to see some much smaller IPOs coming along so that some of the newer players could dip their toes into the market from both sides. I also think that we could do with a nice, purposeful, scam IPO, as this is obviously allowed by game mechanics, and would give us something to talk about, as well as being a learning experience for everyone involved.
The other thing to bear in mind is that if EVE Bank follow their planned route, I suspect that a lot of financial activity would occur off these forums anyway.
Just my 2p.

It all starts with the people who feel important (sometimes for good reason so no offence here) decide that the forums aint giving them enough back to warrent thier effort in helping. ie spend countless hours researching IPO releases calling up scams etc, directly benefiting not only themselves but the whole community of MD. Most would even offer advice and tip on all areas of the market but only if some research had been carried out by the person asking for help. Recently there ha been alot of clutter from noobish question, alot of the time the answer is a page back at most or worse in the stickies lol. The people putting in all this effort for the betterment of the market and community have now devised a way to continue to progress the secondry market and benefit everyone including the MD forums they are leaving behind, and yet they still recieve critasism.
On the topic of what will happen, well there will be countless scams that work and the secondry market will dissapear completely from here anyone with a valid IPO/Bond will go the ebank route and avoid the scamfest. Reason for the scam fest none of the trusted regulars to call out the scams and dodgy offerings I cannot see newer people sticking around after being scammed a few times.
The Market will probably get healthier from this move but MD will become the "Ask your Noob questions and get scammed here" forum. Looking at the low post count this forum has even when the Experienced regulars visited I cannot see there being much activity at all. I may be wrong, IMO alot of the people "leaving" will keep an eye out here for any investment that looks good. And I think alot of them wont be able to help themselve adding a sarcastic or funny remark to latest batch of noob posts.....shrug.
I only frequent here and it will continue, It gives me much amusement at work.

Unfortunate in that some interesting posting will be lost, not so unfortunate as some inappropriate arrogance will be lost as well. Eve likes a vacuum. Losses only create a bit of interesting chaos followed by new opportunities for different players. Losing the so-called elite is only temporary, as even if they quit the game, let alone the forum, the game will role on, and others will just take their places. And few outside of a small community will ever really note or care about the change.

This forum will be worse for it. But then, who really cares here anymore? Certainly not the lazy people spamming the same questions like "How I sell things and make $$$" and "X is too expensive CCP fix it!"
Not the people who get derided for being the 'Elites' of MD, who have done so much and yet are insulted for being successful.
And surely not the people wanting to learn about how things work. You can till all you like, but a wasteland is a wasteland, and what little arable land that's left is blowing away.

The effect of them leaving is that they don't post here, they post on EBANK's forum (www.eve-bank.net).
While they don't post here, healthy discussions do take place over there. MD, as of late, has come a breeding ground for any joe schmoe to come along and offer up an IPO. Then, all of the newer people to visit MD don't do their research and plunk down billions of iskies on some unknown. So, by them moving out, it leaves plenty of newcomers vunerable to scams because less and less people will be around to do the research and point out flaws.
If you're truly serious about IPO's, or high finance, then I suggest you come to EBANK's forums and participate. While the "elders" have left here, they're still alive and kicking over there. It's just a way to escape all of the issues caused by the move and of course some CCP actions recently...

It depends on what all the peeps here want MD to be?
If MD is about raising money in the secondary market, then some of the players mentioned would be missed as they have good business knowledge and have often helped people with their business plans, and helped to point out fraudsters.
If MD becomes more of a discussion on the sale of goods in Eve they won't be missed.
A lot of businesses have investors here so have a duty to stay and report to them.
MD is what the new people will make it.
My general advice to potential investors, be careful

Ya, it's internet spaceships. For the sake of saving a few bits of code and five minutes of a moderator's time per day, CCP refuses to continue to support a forum for economic roleplay. Yes, roleplay. This forum was a roleplay forum to some extent because it was actually possibly to know who was speaking, (and record deals!), since the ability to post here is directly linked to game accounts. Yes, it was a sort of roleplay that most folks just didn't much get into. Internet spaceships is one thing. Internet banking? That's a stretch for most people. The people on this forum were here not because it was ideal, but because they had nowhere else to go that fit their needs better than this forum.
Now, if the people who played the game but did their internet banking roleplay here on the forums find that they can't roleplay the way they used to, they are likely to leave this forum. This is already beginning to happen. If they can't find a place that lets them roleplay similarly elsewhere (permanent records and account login verified posting) how likely are they to simply leave EVE? By chopping off the opportunity for economic roleplayers to play "their" game of EVE, I think CCP is risking a great deal. Some will stay, some will leave. Some will find other places. Some will eventually stop playing EVE because CCP doesn't have the common decency to continue to support a roleplay community here in the forums that they simply do not yet support ingame.
But back to my original bit. How does "out here" affect ingame? I believe people who are no longer allowed to roleplay in the forums as they did before are much more likely to leave EVE.
What would be the effect of Ebank or Dbank closing abruptly, should that come to pass? What would be the effect of the big financial roleplayers isolating themselves from new blood far more than they ever did before? In one case, a severe disruption of huge pieces of the EVE economy. In the other case stagnation and boredom.
Thats what I'm asking about here. How critical to the high end economic game do the experienced high rollers believe this forum really was? How much will the loss of some of the more colorful banking roleplay folks hurt this forum community, and the ingame economy?

Moving this rat-trap riff raff posting off the CCP website is a good thing and long overdue. I wish them well but good riddence.

I'm sorry Taikun, I should have realized tone doesn't translate well via text. By no means was I suggesting they walked on water, I think you're just too self-absorbed with tearing everyone down in this forum to realize I was making a generalization.
This forum is (or was) the exact place for IPO's and the like, not the sell order forum. Market Discussion has dual meaning in EVE - the actual markets and then the financial market. CCP built in the share feature of corporations, where else should we discuss this feature than the market discussion forum?
Sell orders is no the place, not everyone has something to sell when they wish to talk about shares and finance. Market discussion is the correct forum (as has been demonstrated by CCP not moving IPO discussions out of this forum).
I have yet to see you offer one shred of constructive discussion to this forum in terms of actually discussing the market. All you do is troll every single thread and pop in to say something negative. Can you take the stick out of your bum please and lighten up? Not everyone in the world is going to bend over and listen to you and your "suggestions." If you don't like what's being discussed here, then by all means, report every single thread that you feel isn't market related. Like I told you in the other forums, move on and don't read it if you don't like it.
You're like the silly old mom who's little kid was hurt in some stupid accident and makes it her mission to ruin the fun of everyone else. You INSIST on voicing your opinions, no matter how assinine they may be, until you get what you want. All you do is ruin the experience and the enjoyment for everyone else. You, and others like you, are the exact reason this forum has gone to hell in a handbasket. You, and others like you, are why the word troll was developed.
Quit trolling, go back to lurking. I'm sorry your mom didn't coddle you more as a child, it must be hard being you. Quit taking out your anger and frustration on others in the MD forum. I feel a report coming on, I think you have a macro set up to click on report automatically when you enter a thread. So be it.

Just because something has degraded into a situation does not give licence to allow it to continue. Case in point is these so called 'elders' attempt to impose their point of view on CCP on how this forum should operate. CCP said no thanks and they had a coniption and is pouting in their own playpen.

Public offerings have been in the game since literally the game existed for the most part. It was found that the sell forums did not facilitate the operation of them The Market Discussion seemed the next logical step CCP and the moderation team agreed in so far that despite the description, the activity was allowed to continue, even to the point where at times offerings were actually MOVED here from other locations.
These are facts, the fact that you ignore these facts is pretty obvious you're trolling here Taikun. If the rules were rules, we'd be seeing the threads locked left and right, and moved on a daily basis.

Much like how you suddenly want to impose your point of view on CCP by having things moved or reported. If you wanted to get rid of everyone talking about IPO's, then perhaps you should have used your vast knowledge of beating CCP into submission and supported the petition for a higher markets forum.
I think you overestimate your pull with CCP. I have a feeling they just get annoyed with trolls like yourselves and others on the forum and just moderate something quickly to make you happy. If you think CCP would suddenly listen to you, out of the thousands of players, you're grossly arrogant. CCP doesn't care about your point of view on where IPO discussions should take place. As Kazzac has mentioned, CCP's past actions have indicated this is the correct place for IPO discussion, I'm sorry you can't accept that.
And yes, you are a troll. No, it's not a lazy attempt to avoid a discussion. You seem to fail to read what I and others have pointed out to you - THIS IS THE PLACE FOR SECONDARY MARKET DISCUSSION. Until you can pull your weight and get CCP to create a secondary market forum, then do us a favor and quit trolling everything around here! For f's sake, I've never seen someone so arrogant and bullheaded to not realize what everyone's been trying to tell you.

I have many issues with Taikun. I think this forum has now become overmoderated to the point of being completely dull.
However, I will point out that the information I read about this forum said nothing about 'secondary market', and the rules for the forum make no mention that I can see. I have always assumed this forum was for discussing all market activities.
I have long disliked the elitism of the forum. I have disliked the elitism even though I like many of the people accused of being elite. I am an arrogant person and have paid for that mistake more times than I can count.
As far as I am concerned, as long as the topics are about the market then I am okay with this forum. I feel that too many threads have been locked that were relevant, and a few that were not probably should have been locked.
Overall, the quality of MD forum posts has declined noticeably for me in the past three months. I blame the 'elites' for this to a certain degree. As the newbies began flooding the forum I found more and more that they were met with hostility. The plain fact is that newbies ask dumb questions. I know that I still ask dumb questions six months into the game. The one thing I have taken out of teaching and tutoring is that the only dumb questions are 'Is this on the test?' and 'How will this count towards my grade?'. And yes, you often have to repeat yourself a thousand times. If my professors had been unwilling to answer my dumb questions I would never have made it through my degree program since I never would have been willing to ask the necessary dumb questions.
So, I blame both the 'elites' and those who attempt to sanitize a perfectly good topic.

No offence, but surely the 3-4 post of this kind per day (which are market related and dont fit into Sell orders because discussion about offerings is not allowed there) cannot cause you that much sifting and most can be identified from the title. I really dont see the point of either side of this. The forum isn't overflowing so it easily has the capacity to handle, "Ingame" Market interface and the secondry market.
I Also have no idea why each group is annoyed with each other, its easy to ignore stuff you dont want to read.

Mintal, Is the secondary market part of the market? I think this needs to be clarified in the MD discussion rules thread.
I personally believe the secondary market is part of the market. The individuals who engage in IPO's and Bond offerings typically use that money for the purposes of additional market activities. Since the activities of IPO's involve the market, the activities of the IPO's to me are relevant to a market discussion.
A real world analogy would be the discussing the stock of a company producing a commodity. Any producer of a commodity is implicitly part of that market (either directly or indirectly) and therefore the status and success of that company remains relevant to market discussions.

Exactly this, If you were to have a discussion about the ingame price of Battleships, ignoring an IPO from a producer feeding 300 Battleships per month into the market would be a bit blindsighted and hence discussion regarding that offering should definately be allowed here.

CCP has designed a game that they like to call a sandbox game. EVE has grown, and one of it's greatest features is it's economics. A few EVE players long ago decided to take a little bit of sand out of the sandbox and bring it here to the forums and start creating a small part of the game here in this forum, in it's out of the way place at the bottom of the forums. CCP allowed this for a very long time, and then chose to uproot the forum and dump it into another location which would make roleplay nearly impossible. The forum staff basically walked up and kicked over the sandcastles made from sand brought from the EVE sandbox, grabbed the players by the neck, and threw them into a classroom.
In my opinion, there DID need to be a newbie forum for economics, but shattering a years-old, highly developed roleplay environment that CCP was not prepared to support ingame should not have been part of the method used to generate this general economics channel.
The MD forum was EVE for quite a few people, and those people were potent driving forces for the economic engine of EVE. Acting outside the game, the people in the MD forums made decisions that had huge economic repercussions within the game. I cannot see how CCP can continue to completely ignore the very people who helped make EVE what it is today.
I'm not a MD "elder" I have browsed through these forums over the years though, both where they were and where they are now. The difference between then and now is a stark contrast.

That's what so much of eve, and all the eve forums is like really. This is my first and only mmorpg and the amount of people with inflated senses of self-importance is just hilarious. Some people are 'laser experts' and know the right fit to pew pew pew, other people are 'elite traders' that head market trends. In the end all gamers are just people in a dark room huddled over their monitors moving pixels around, and when they get bored with that they scurry off to various forums so they can exude a smug and haughty demeanor, calling everyone else a troll or a newbie.
Who cares if some market elites are leaving? Should we follow in their wake with mournful tears and a funeral march, tossing flower petals on the dirt? Should we beat our chests and curse the skies above for being abandoned in this way to fend for ourseleves? I'm sure, during their stead here in-game, these players left some useful advice, and so now they are shoving off for someplace else. Big deal. An mmorpg is a distracting outlet for idle time, and for endeavors fostered in such time there really isn't anything anyone can do that is outstanding such that other people should recognize you as some kind of irreplaceable hero. Anyone who built their 'power' in an mmoporg built it out of 70% tedium and then some combination of strategy and luck - big deal. I acknowledge the advice of other players, but I don't really respect anything that someone can 'accomplish' while being anonymous behind an avatar, mouse in one hand and their **** in the other.

Having re-read my post it maybe comes off a little harsh. Look, I realize that people get deep into this game and its intricacies, and new players can seem irritating when they are stumbling through hoops that you have mastered a long time ago. But instead of always focusing on the vices of newbs, it might be advisable to consider the virtues that 'elite' players often lack: patience, humility, sympathy. Big time market players add complexity and depth to the game, but you're just not gods, you never were. Your time spent in game doesn't give you a license to be an a.s.s.h.o.l.e. to other people. I'm thankful for the advice from others but I hesitate to offer respect to players who expect it out of some delusional hubris. That's all.
So some market players are leaving? Too bad. Other good market ideas will fill up in their place, even in these forums. New players land on these shores all the time, no one player is irreplaceable.

While I agree that the secondary market is arguably part of the overall MD umbrella of discussable topics, it seems that the "elders" have gotten their heads stuck too far up their collective rectums and somehow decided that the secondary market is the ONLY worthy topic for MD to the exclusion of all others. Any newcomers asking here for help or guidance are in for some serious punishment if they dare ask the "wrong" question. The arrogance exhibited here is outright astounding and would make even the hard core thugs in C&P blush. Honestly, it takes a seriously depraved self-esteem to create an ivory tower elite in a VIDEO GAME!!!! Frack the "elders" and their self-important attitude. Good riddance. --------

Not true, many of us have started a number of threads that contain information any newcomer seeks, and recently since the move have started a megathread where questions can be asked and answers reviewed before answering something redundant.
All some of us ask is that you check the stickies and use eve-search before asking. Most of the time the answer has already been posted. |

Eve-search sucks. It has always sucked and will probably suck long after the "elders" have moved out of their parents' basements. And even if a question has already been asked and answered, the level of effort that the "elite" puts into abusing the poor noob who posed it always far exceeds the level of effort required to simply answer the question again or point the noob in the right direction. As I see it, the correct topic is being overlooked. Should be, "why are many veterans leaving these forums behind?" Some of these guys have invested years in helping to foster a community here. Some with tough love, aye, but none the less with love and sweat.
I can imagine what it would take for these types to decide that there is no longer any return value for their investment, here. Most of these veterans that are leaving are long term players/planners/thinkers and they have started to categorically rate this forum as a poor investment.
Reading this thread has only substantiated that thought in my mind. A few of your are worthy but then those who were always were before this thread.
The nature of the internet is that any community is held hostage to its lowest common denominator. Market Discussion forum has been, for a very long time, passed over by Eve's lowest common denominator. This made it the preferred forum for those who prefer not to virtually rut in the mud with the rest of the riff raff. Not everyone wants to degrade others or be a degenerate.
Many of you call that "elitism". It is accurately called "having standards" and yall don't rate... so you do what you can to trash the forums to your level. And like any other scavenger, you are trying to vomit on the efforts, reputation, and history of those better men and women that came before you.
A recent eBank post called this what it is: Forum Euthanasia. To finally become acceptable and achieve success, lower the goal posts to your level. I'd call you Jackals but that would be insulting Jackals. (And I'm sure one would report this thread for that.) |

Eve-Search works for all but the most complicated questions.
Search this sub forum for tritium or trit and you'll get half a dozen threads about the rising and lowering of this mineral. What affects these changes, and how you can react to them to form your own predictions.
Search this sub forum for t2 - exploit and you'll get prolly the best in depth discussion of the impact its actually going to have. Many of us here predicted the exact outcome, the dates of it occuring, and a rough estimated amount days before CCP gave it to the CSM. (Props to Akita the resident market crystal ball)
To just trounce this amazing resource just drives the point home that its getting like the rest of the forums around here.

I've been reading MD for over a year now but have not made many posts. I for one feel that over the last few months the forum have become more boring to read. Not because of all the new players comming here asking for help or tips, but because of all the 'MD Veterans' hostility. It a game forum ffs, not some private club.

Proof in point.
The appropriate response would be to counter troll you. Some cheeky or snarky remark but what would be the point of it? It is not that you won't stop being an arse, nothing anyone can say can do that. You just enjoy being one.
There lies the difference between yourself and many of those hostile vets leaving. They only act an arse from necessity. You actively choose to do it even though I warrant that you don't have to be that way so consistently.
I am glad that I have achieved some sort of first in your life. I will have to say, in return, that I have seen so little said with even less words. Here's to hoping you didn't strain yourself coming up with that.

Eventually every question will come up again, that is a certain. Its been going on here for years.
But the amount of clutter lately has gone up, where as we might get a single "Why has trit gone up" in a month, its gotten to be a daily occurrence in a large price shift.
I'm hopeful that the EVEeWiki project will help alleviate some stress in answering the same thing twice, or even having to post a link again and again, etc... |

I could understand if the eve-search site was actually a very effective search engine, but honestly, for the most part, eve-search makes Ask Jeeves look good. But then again. I suck. I don't really know what I'm doing or talking about. But my general suckiness and incompetence notwithstanding, I'm pretty sure these "elite parents" will not be missed by anyone but the most co-dependent of sycophants.
Casing point and thank you for being so honest, if a few more of the newer players would be as honest as you maybe MD regulars would go a bit easy on y'all.
ie "Hello Im new here I cannot be bothered reading stickies and I cannot use search engines, could someone pls point me to some information about how to trade"
would get a better reception than
"Tradz peoplez Plz tell me how to be uber rick, k thx"

Many of you call that "elitism". It is accurately called "having standards" and yall don't rate... so you do what you can to trash the forums to your level. And like any other scavenger, you are trying to vomit on the efforts, reputation, and history of those better men and women that came before you....
Because I'm finishing off my philosophy dissertation, this post reminds me of some of the more famous (mis)readings of Nietzsche that all-too-neatly divide up the 'herd' from the 'higher humanity' (and then got Nietzsche in trouble for making it seem like he was enforcing crude class distinctions, elitism, etc). I agree with the general sentiment that not all people should be treated as equal just in virtue of their being people. I also agree that in some cases, reaching higher levels of excellence sometimes requires that this be done at the expense of other people and distinction from the 'herd'. These are some of the points N. was trying to make: he was ruthlessly interested in human excellence, and was willing to criticize the kind of value systems that reward the lowest common denominator, encourage the herd, etc. However, the mis-reading comes when people unflinchingly place themselves in the 'higher' category without hesitation. They think the higher humanity is unproblematically achieved: one just needs to stipulate that they (and their buddies) are in such a category. Paradoxically as a result they often end up replicating some of the flaws that they thought they were on a path to overcome, because they become bloated and fat and oblivious to the activities of others (yes, even lower 'others'), and the ways in which those activities and values, sublimated correctly, can be the foundation for better values. In short, the air gets really thin up there and from the lofty perspective much detail is lost. Plus, in the end we're talking about people who think they are elite for being frikking beancounters (or rockpushers, in my upcoming allegory), studying charts and trends and making projections. Ultimately such activity is banal with cute variations. Its just another version of Sisyphus moving a boulder up a mountain: the good trader pushes it mostly uphill. Once in a while it slides down a little bit, and thats when the crafty rockpusher/trader studies the terrain, looks up ahead, and pushes the boulder again a few feet from a less treacherous part of the mountain. Periodically this rockpusher will plant his heels in the mountain, his back against the boulder, and take a deep breath. This is when he will observe others pushing smaller rocks up the same hill with various strategic difficulties. From the the higher vantage point of the advanced rockpusher, he will attend to the techniques of others and consider his own superior techniques by contrast. Distilling skill from function, he will conveniently forget that the various skills of all people involved (including himself) is nevertheless shackled to the tediuous task of shoving boulders about. Imagining himself a giant among men, he will forget that his back is supporting a big heavy rock that will slide downhill unless he gets back to shoving it upwards just like everyone else. As he gets higher up the mountain, he grants himself more of these moments of rest and hence also of hubris, fuelled into delirium by even thinner air. Towards the top the need to feel superior becomes desperate, as he realizes the top of the hill is just a plateau with rocks. He screams until hoarse at the people at the bottom of the mountain. When they start to scream back, he is amazed and feels affronted and wonders about going to start anew, at some new mountain.

Trade may very well be based on Economics and Mathematics. But internet e-peen fluffing, which is clearly the area we're in right now, is most certainly based on rhetoric and language. And since you like to get oh so technical, let's get right to it. "Casing point" is not a spelling error. The word "casing" exists and you spelled it correctly. It is not a grammar error. It is a 'diction' error - an error in the thought process resulting in using the wrong word entirely as opposed to using the right word but misspelling it. Didn't your 'elite MD' parents teach you that in order to sound properly haughty and smug in MD, you must avoid 'diction' errors at all costs? --------

I don't get anal over spelling errors. I get anal over diction errors. Nothing chaps my elite butt like some windbag spewing off self-important pseudo-eloquence and making a diction error. Grrr! It ruins my day just like noobs asking you the best ways to effortlessly make quick ISK ruins yours. Anyway, congratulations! You have finally deduced the conclusion I was hoping to lead you to. I am glad that I have achieved some sort of first in your life. I will have to say, in return, that I have seen so little said with even less words. Here's to hoping you didn't strain yourself coming up with that.

Hey sorry for further pedantry, but "insulting jackals" doesn't quite make sense either. This is because animals are incapable of being affected by higher-order social emotions, and insults are one of them. The choice of "jackals" is also a bit precious.
As has been stated before, if you're going to turn up your nose and stipulate that you are superior over others, that REALLY is a crucial time to also communicate clearly. Otherwise you come off like an oblivious buffoon.

Nihilism, as in the belief in nothing? Do you mean in the "exasperated with the prospect of no God" sense as found in Turgenev, or the sort of post WWII despair that we found amongst the French? If there was any variety of that in this thread, somehow I missed it.
As far as misanthropy goes, I can't say for sure but what I gather is that people are revolting against the ludicrous assertions of significance that avatar-pixel-puppets have been ascribing to themselves in this game. That's fairly specific to a certain character trait, as well as a certain population. Misanthropy would be a general hatred for humanity as whole.
It's good to practice big words though, and forums are a safe anonymous place from which to do so. So keep trying: it's better than blundering amongst erudite people in real life.

I have to say the person on the first page who stated that this was internet role play banking got right to the heart of it. The way some people are arguing here, one would think they actually were billionaires. Goodness, people, this is a GAME. I won't lie to you though, i only know one billionaire in my circle. He's a funny as hell guy, surprisingly he cares little for spending money, only for mechanisms in which to make it. Speak to him about tax avoidance or how to make money in some obscure niche, and he could go on forever. But actually using it for something useful...meh. Oh and the final thing about him is that to him there are two types of people, fools who he does not care for, and smart people who he is willing to converse with. So i have to admit, all in all, as far as internet role play banking goes, some people here, mimic the real billionaires rather well. Kudos?

This thread is making my eyes bleed.
Some people will move on to newer forums. That is the way of internet games and its associated forums. Change!
The EBank forum will probably be more structured towards actual financing of businesses and banking and some theoretical economic discussion, while this forum will have a much broader scope. ScrapHeap Challenge has its place for politics, PVP and other things.
Both forums will have their place, it is up to the individual to post where they post to find the answers they need or the potential customers or investors they want.
Only time will tell what business is conducted where.
Now can we move on to more constructive things, please!

I feel exactly the same way. Some people take this game and the status they 'built up' WAY too serious.
I'm gonna try and answer both of these posts in one go, but only because I have a bit of respect for you flakeys.
This has NOTHING to do with status. It has to do with what the individuals that are leaving believe has happened to the MD forums. The quality versus quantity argument. When the "how do i make isk" or "what item should i sell to make isk" posts start coming in waves it does get a bit annoying. The information is there in the stickies or in the threads themselves(Eve-search ftw). A few people had a problem with the new placement and the waves of noobs that don't want to do any real work. They complained about it and got called elitist. They could stay and deal with it or leave. They made the choice to leave. I think if it was bothering them enough being here then they made the right decision and it has nothing to do with being an elitist or elder or any sort of perceived status.
I know most wouldn't consider me to be an elitist yet I am annoyed by the posts asking which items to trade to make l33t amounts of isk. Since that annoys me, does that make me an elitist? No.

You know I read this thread and though... ummm how can anyone speak for Mitnal.
Then I though... Mitnal has indicated that IPOs belong in this forum.
This Thread started by Mitnal himself contained things like this....
Originally by: "Mitnal" ò "Guide to IPO Creation"
ò Guide to trust, reputation, and getting funding.
ò Defined Stock and Bond models for the EVE Market A guide to the EVE Financial Instruments often mentioned in MD.
ò A Guide to Options for Raising Public and Private Capital A further guide to the EVE Financial Instruments often mentioned in MD.
ò An IPO Guide Linked in OP, but a handy link here. The title says it all.
ò Official IPO Template A handy link here. The title says it all.
ò Publically Listed Corporations and other useful links
Loans and Banking Institutions ò Get Your Loans Here!
One of those links goes here.
A list of a majority if IPOS discussed all on this very forum. So how could anyone possibly have any thought that Mitnal and therefor CCP did NOT intend the Market Discussion forum be used this way?
SencneS Board of Directors of Two Public Corporations mentioned in a sticky thread created by Mitnal.

Say what you want about where this forum should be. Hexxx leaving does not make this place better. But like all things, someone will step up to fill the void left. Someone always does so I think in the long term it will adjust, as markets do.

For YEARS these jokers have plagued this forum with IPO spam where it SHOULD have been in the sell forums. once CCP allowed that crap in here... next came quarterly announcements... directors 'retirements' and all sorts of off-topic garbage.
Moving this rat-trap riff raff posting off the CCP website is a good thing and long overdue. I wish them well but good riddence.
Now this forum can trend back to it's intended audience. Everyone other than the 'elders'. IMHO.

Hexxx is leaving eve. How is that relevant to this thread?
Would the addition of a forum search feature (built into the official forums) help do you think? I think we could reduce maybe 50% of the random threads with replies such as "search n00b" by this addition. I'm no db guru but surely the load increase is acceptable if default search is only posts from last 12 months, with option to search entire forum DB in advanced options only.

Because the thread is about the Secondary Market. Hexxx has mentioned he most certainly wants to be involved in helping people create and maintain good solid IPO models etc.
Yes, he may not be in EVE anymore, but the resource is still available for those that want to nibble the the knowledge base.

It is a ironclad rule of the universe that most newbies will not look before posting their questions on forums. Expecting this is foolish. It's pleasant when they do of course, but it's quite simply outside the norm to see any evidence of research before a post.

You don't have to give a crap about who Hexxx is. However why do you feel the need to crap on him or other supposed "elite/vets"? (Don't answer as I'm only being rhetorical - I really don't care) Originally by: VJ Maverick I've been playing EvE for two years and somehow I got by without worshiping Hexx, Treelox, Shar Tegral, or any of the other departed "Jedi" masters. Good for you mate. Of course I'm going to take your statement with a grain of salt. To my mind you are obviously an alt, obviously needy, and obviously bitter. This is the interwebz, everyone is telling the truth when they are beating their chest like you just did. Originally by: VJ Maverick Don't we have enough demagogues in real life? Why do we have to bring them here?
The best way to remove the pedestal out from under someone is to reveal something unsavory about them or to let their memory fade quietly. All your current efforts are doing is quite firmly fixating the "demigods" in the minds of people. After all, if they are worth you embarrassing yourself so thoroughly over them ... In essence, you are making their leaving of note by acting the fool. Originally by: VJ Maverick neither my gameplay nor the gameplay of 99.9% of the EvE community will be affected by these people's temper tantrums.
And you are proof positive that temper tantrums have zero effect on gameplay. However, the only tantrum I've seen are from "other" people. People like yourself. Of course, after treading through this abortion of a thread (which no amount of reporting seems to slow down or emails to [email protected]), the only thing that I am curious about is this: What the hell is your problem? Honest. If some people want to talk about the positives and negatives of occurances and/or absences... what harm does it do you? I mean I get it - you don't like "us" (whoever this special us really is) - but what I don't get is the trollathon that has become this thread. I mean this seriously without any spite or malice. And I don't care if you take this with good or ill intent. I'm gonna say a prayer for you. PS: I'm not elite, I'm not rich nor am I well connected to anyone. Hell, I'm rather well disliked. What I am is a cranky old man that says it like it is. I don't give a rat's ass about you respecting me or if I give you respect. I respect myself first, foremost, and last. Everything else after that is conditional and sometimes totally outside my control.

You're completely insane. I didn't come to your house, your workplace, your place of worship, etc and drill you with my POV. I came to a PUBLIC internet forum. You're claiming dominion over a virtual environment that exists only as ones and zeroes on a server in Iceland! Those ones and zeroes may know you and love you and do whatever else it is you fantasize ones and zeroes doing to you, but guess what, they mean nothing to me. This is not a closed community. If you want a closed forum where you can all lick each other's virtual *******s, be my guest. Go ahead and make one. But for as long as we're all paying to play this game, the EvE forums belong to everyone - not just a few who want to exclude others from their discussions. --------

I've taken no offense at all, just my usual blunt speech. The thing I don't understand is why do you need to challenge someone else's respect in another person? Especially regarding people that are leaving? Mind you I think that action by you is the most foolish thing of all. On par with the blind leading the blind. That is the only thing that boggles my mind... what are you getting out of all this investment you've typed here? If it is trolling, then you've over invested and I think when the interest payment comes due ... ... If it is some other well intentioned thing then perhaps you need to leave the thread alone for 24 hours and come back to it. Fresh so to speak. That's my advice for you and it's free. Any more will cost you.

Your atitude is appropriate for a newbie forum. The fact that you completely and utterly miss the point is also appropriate for a newbie forum.
You might think it's elitism or snobbery that some people are leaving this forum. In some cases it might actually be exactly that. In many cases, however, it boils down to the fact that this forum used to be high finance roleplay, and now it's newbie Q & A.
High finance is not well supported ingame. There are no meaningful permanent public records ingame, nor any way to track dozens of investor offers easily. The MD forums were an answer to that, and a place where like minded people could roleplay and play EVE their way.
You don't really need respect in a Q & A forum. You do need it in a roleplay forum. The greatest weakness of your viewpoint is that you simply refuse to acknowledge that what this forum was and what it is are completely and utterly different. To you, there is no value to what existed before because, by your own admission, you were not involved. All that matters to YOU is what is. You don't feel betrayed by CCP because you don't care about the roleplay community that you were never a part of getting uprooted and destroyed.

MD is definitely a community, evidenced by ALL the varying view points.
And I've seen lots of helpful posts. I've also seen not constructive posts. This is the internet you're going to get that. And if I were dilligent I would look up his specific name but I believe it is AC115 or something like that that started a post encouraging people to ask ANY question in it free from flames. That's not resistance. Look, I'm not giving Hexxx HJs in the backseat of his car or anything but the man has always been nothing but helpful, I said what I said for a reason. What you want in this community is lessened by him leaving.

Shar Tegral, for the record, while you did get lumped in with the 'elite' in this thread by those who are posting in protest of the related elitism, it seems that arose indirectly. It's not the case that the "riff raff" started singling out particular people who are "high rollers" and then ridiculed their in-game careers. Instead, certain posts did establish a very haughty and naive us vs them kind of mentality (see posts by hostility Incarnate, as a key example), and those posts were by people who presume they fall in the "elite" category (whatever that means).
Thus the oppositional mindset that you are seeing now is underwritten by some people presuming that they are better than others in such a way that there is one clearly "elite" group, and one that is "inferior" (insulting to jackals, etc).
Since then, those who mock and resist such haughtiness have speculated on particular names of who is deluded to think of themselves this way (this is the indirect effect). But strictly speaking, the category distinction that fuels the divisiveness was proclaimed by those who think they are in power, not those who mirthfully reject such claims to power.

I took a very close look and I agree 100%. I think that some people have, by virtue of their attitude, created a very polarized atmosphere in the MD forum. And some others have become unintended victims of this polarization and thus the targets of the riff-raff rebellion - i.e. the specifically named individuals in the OP's post. Originally by: VJ Maverick You're completely insane.
It's amazing your mind can string together a thought that has nothing to do with what I said. I said "A place you spend time, a community that knows you...." I didn't say anything about work, house or anything that is of a personal nature. I said "Community" that could be a bar, a set to seats at a sporting event, vacation spot, a casino. It doesn't matter where it is, the only thing that matters if you are knowing in that location, people know who you are, that is the key the statement.
Before this public forum became a n00b fest in it's current state, Hexxx was known to a majority of the community. In case you don't understand, a community on the internet is something like a forum, a blog, a website in which the contributories have common interests.
The Market Discussion forum was a community that had common interests and Hexxx is known amount the people who posted here regularly and shared common goals and objectives. Now that I think I've made my point of view extremely clear for you narrow mind to understand.
You come in here, where you have spent little to no time in, spouting off how useless Hexxx is because you managed to get along just fine without him. My statement was to put you in the same position as the original Market Discussion community, the community of people that spent good time, had fun and enjoyed.
Clearly my efforts are wasted on a simpleton and although you have ever right to come in here and post, you make bold statements that do nothing but rub the people the wrong way. People that actually enjoy this forum as part of the entertainment they get from subscribing to EVE.
You're nothing more then a troll, and a pretty bad one at that, and you're simply disrupting the enjoyment people that come to this forum because the "regulars" that post here have common interests.
If you don't like the majorities common interests then this is not the forum for you, sure you can stay, read, post, but don't expect anyone to be hospitable as you spout out garbage that the majority of the community don't want to hear.
This is directed to anyone that feels VJ Maverick has valid points.
The people that make up a Marjory of this community like to discuss thing that may not interest you, if you're not interested don't try and push you point of view onto others. All you're doing is disrupting the enjoyment the community has for talking about the mundane.
You don't have to be here, you don't have to participate, you have every right to be here, and post. Don't expect a warm welcome if you post for the soul reason to annoy everyone else because it's not interesting to you.

WEBSITE TERMS OF USE AGREEMENT Section 6.1 clause VII where it states you agree not to make use of (this) Message Board for commercial purposes, such as advertising any products or services, reselling or publishing the information posted or transmitted.
Far be it from me to say you are breeching any rules by soliciting CCP customers to facilitate your service over at EBank... but it is interesting to see CCP selectively enforce their rules once again.

Quoting from EBank "At the end of every financial month, 10% of EBANK profits will be paid as a dividend to Directors."
Even though the payment to the directors is in "ISK" it clearly meets the definition of any "other consideration" as satisfying a commercial purpose as defined by the statute. EBank became a business just like any other once its operations left the confines of the game proper, these forums, and hence CCPs direct control. IMHO

Excellent, you can at least see the result. I'll tell you the cause. There is a very polarized atmosphere here because this one forum cannot do both of the things CCP is trying to force into it. On the one hand you have a Q & A forum for eve economics. On the other hand you have high finance EVE roleplayers.
The veterans of this forum have a wide range of reactions to the youngsters asking questions here. For sake of argument, lets call the stances NBSI, NRDS, and neutral. The NBSI vets tend to be aggressive to most of the new folks, the NRDS vets go after the new folks that ask questions that they could have spend 3 minutes to find an answer for but will help youngsters that look like they might have done some work on their own, and the neutral vets tend to lurk or actively engage without looking for conflict.
The polarization of this forum is completely unavoidable due to the fact that CCP is trying to force two completely divergent groups of people into one forum with no concern at all what the outcome will be.

You are incorrect. - EBANK and isk reside within the confines of the game and never leave. - EBANK's website is just a communication and tracking tool to facilitate thier in game business. ThatÆs it. - EBANKS transactions and operations are all within eve period. Isk is only transferred and maintained on EVE characters within EVE. Just because we track these transactions out of game in addition (through API which CPP had provided for this very purpose) dose not support your claim of an actual out of game business making commercial profit (as in real world currency).
There are lots of communication tools outside the game that facilitate the transfer or moving of isk for services rendered. Examples include Eve Radio and isk donations to DJ's as well as their lotteries, Gambling Sites, Eve-Bay, etc etc.
Anyways the fact you dedicate time to cause drama and provide negative value is rather pathetic in my opinion. Why donÆt you spend your energy on doing something that contributes to the community rather then tear it down? Seems you are truly a half glass empty kind of guy.
This response is meant primarly for the public as I a not going to waste any more time arguing points. CCP would of shut down all these communication tools, concepts, and not provided an API if they did not want things like this to be created.

No.
Don't get me wrong here AC155 i have a lot of respect for the older MD players and i can learn a LOT of them.I have been browsing his forum for the last 3 years and actively invested in IPO offers for the last year.
I have allways read the discussions ongoing here wich gave me more insight to the market and the way the game can be played.I mostly never been part of these discussions simply because my intellect will not permit me.I know where my limits are.
I do agree that since the MD forum moved there has been a lot of topics created wich should never been here to start with and yes i am getting sick myself of the threads asking how to get fast money etc. There are however some topics that do make sence and are in the grey area if they should or should not be posted in the MD forums.I see these posts being crushed and smacked with:" wrong area reported" and such stupid comments. There's a topic here somewhere with someone asking if there are other traders that wish to work with him on bulk deals and such.He got the reply to move to the WTS forum yet i remember a topic allmost exactly the same of a few months back where others replied on in a totally different way and deals where made to establish a business relationship.
The zero-tolerance that is shown these days is something i don't like to see and it is shown on both sides.Just look at this topic the accusations flying from right to left and the other way ,it's really starting to get stupid and the actuall discussion about anything that is related to the market are set back for discussions about if the forum is going downhill and if it should be moved back and such.If we keep this rate up in a few months the MD forum will be a forum no one will visit but NOT just because of the new people posting in here but also because some are hanging on to what it once was when the forums where down below.CCP changed it so we need to try and make it work the best way we can and curently we are not.
This is why i say some take the game to seriously and are 'fighting' to prevent any changes.Itis an open forum and we all pay to play. You see a post you don't like you either ignore it , give tips on how the op should improve it or state your view on it in a decent way without starting to break the person down to the ground just for making a comment you find either 'stupid/false'.
Again i can not stress enough that i have a lot of respect for the MD vets.

Shar summed this thread up right - abortion.
Taikun, you interpreted commercial purposes wrong. I think CCP is saying, don't come in here posting links up to that new **** site or spam the hell out of the forums for canadian pharmacies. I don't think it's their intention to censor people advertising in-game services or services that better the EVE community. Why, if we want to lump ebank into your definition of commercial services, than any link in a post or a signature with a link to some sort of EVE service should be moderated.
If that were the case, the following shouldn't be allowed to post links: ebank, dbank, walletaware, emma, meep, any corporation that wants to make money and has a website, casinos, eve-radio, eve-magazine, etc. The list goes on my friend. Your interpretation is just plain wrong.
Anyway, I think everyone needs to cool it around here. Everyone has their point of views and everyone wants to show off how far they can **** in a ****ing contest of idiots. Let's review some of the viewpoints here:
1.) Those that were part of the community do care about the people who are leaving. Those that weren't part of the community don't care - that's obvious. How about we agree that those who don't care, shouldn't care and shouldn't troll a thread. Those that do care can say, goodbye, thanks for all the fish. There's no need to lash out and troll a thread that has nothing to do with you. If it makes your eyes bleed to see a post about an individual person of the community, then get some water and wash it, ignore it.
2.) The "elders" or "elites" (somehow these words got twisted around to mean arrogant community members) are going to be grumpy with noob questions. It happens in every single forum on the interwebs. Ignorance and an unwillingness to do basic research will always **** of someone, it happens, it's a part of life! Sure, it's wrong and sure, those "elders" could have been nicer, but you can only be nice so many times before it gets ridiculous. That's why CCP stickies things.
3.) The fact that one person reports a thread and has it moved ****ed off a lot of those same elders. It's not so much that it was moved, it's the way it was done. It was done without care or regard to the community that was here - something customer service 101 should have told them not to do. Though, I'll probably get moderated for speaking out on this one... Sure, some of you have no care in the world who Hexxx is and will survive without him, it's just that Hexxx did provide a lot of help and he was actually someone who'd take the time to answer noob questions. WHat's ****ing off people now is that some of you fail to realize that he did provide help.
4.) Some of you believe that the "elders" leaving is a good thing, you don't need them, cya later. Some of us believe that without them, this forum will degrade to what is CAOD is. I'm sure over time equillibrium will be established and new faces will step in to fill the void of knowledge. I know there are plenty others out there with the brains to answer questons posed by noobs. So, over the long run, them leaving probably wont' have an effect.
So in conclusion, can't we all just get along to go along? MD doesn't get nearly enough posts per day to warrant anyone coming into a thread and trolling it because they dont' think it's relevant to themselves. If it isn't relevant to you, don't click the frickin' link and read it... move on! Go pet your dog or something, skip it. It's not that hard to filter out the stuff you don't want to read and the stuff you do want to read.
Just quit trolling everything and let people who do find the topic relevant post in peace. I guarantee if Hexxx's farewell thread, or any other thread pertaining to a so called "elder" hadn't been trolled, it'd be on page 3 or 4 by now never to be seen again with 10 posts and it's done.
Everyone needs to take a chill pill and move on.

I agree with you. In fact I think that almost all of the "old timers" do agree with you. We all occasionally get a bit snippy here and there but, as everyone keeps saying, most here only post to provide real content. (Be it criticism or advice - still content.) The problem is that this area is being destroyed from without and from within. From without: all those morons who either don't have anything better to do than to alt-troll or those impatients who don't want to learn how to fish, just give me food already dammit. From within: I can not, due to forum rules, discuss the internal destruction of this forum. Suffice to say that the science of psychology readily predicts the effect of variable rule application and inconsistent authority application on the individual human psyche as well as on the condition of a community. In any community with an acknowledged authority figure the environment is controlled from a "Top down" perspective. Work, home, hobby. If those at the top make a concentrated, diligent, and objective effort to cultivate the community. Good things happen. When the top down effort is lackadaisical, arcane, arbitrary, and simply negligent the outcome is ... ... well... self evident. Given the two factors, the without and within, this board is held hostage to the biggest jack ass. This includes the current "report trolling" especially on dual-purpose posts. Far too many people feel the need to report anything that might marginally relate to some other aspect of Eve and get it moved. IMHO they don't do it for the betterment of the thread or the forum but just because they know that the "within" is not, lately, all that swift. Thus, the reason many people are leaving is because if we can't all play be the same rules, we simply won't play at all. (I can't tell you how many of my recent posts [ me or my alt] have been nuked for reasons as of yet unidentifiable. And yes, I know that I troll and flame. I also know when I do it. Equally, I never shy away from the consequences of having done so. Furthermore Emails to mods@ccpgames is a black hole. The one I sent yesterday was " Who do I have to suck to get this thread cleaned/locked?" Result, this thread is still troll infested, flame ridden, but yet we see that threads still get [ wrongly] moved to other forums when only certain people complain. The truest frustration of all is that we can not discuss moderation here [ even saying this much is against the rules!] but when all other forms of moderation discussion is absent... what the **** can anyone do but simply abandon these forums.) PS: You may, shortly, have to use eve search to find this post.

Also, in fairness, I should add that the moderators are likely swamped to high heaven. With the holidays upon us there are more "children" with idle hands (when they are not pulling their puds) at the keyboards while at the same time CCP itself is probably very short staffed. I'm sure this is a major factor in the current bruhaha.
However I'm loathe to lay down my own disappointment and frustrations over the current trends. The kids I can deal with or ignore. It's the moderators being turned into weapons, unwittingly I hope, by the trolls that just makes me apathetic about adding anything constructive here.

Well, we don't have to discuss the moderator actions.
Our duly elected political representatives, vested with the power granted to the people, and acting on our behalf, can simply go to CCP and initiate the necessary changes. After all, this is a democracy. It says so on the front page of the website.

I believe the children and trolls in question are probably one and the same, In school play grounds the person complaining about being bullied is usually the person doing the bullying, They just have to cry to the teacher when some one retaliates (Report me if you wish Taikun lol)

I think this is a good post. I do not agree with reversing the victim in the case of trolling, but it opens up the social aspect of this forum.
There are posters that can create excellent points, and convey them brilliantly, however they ruin it because they cannot open their mouths without calling someone a moron, idiot, jackal, vomiter, or any other personal attack(I am included in this in many cases in the varous topics and personas I post in, but I am not looking to sell an IPO, or asking for respect I dont deserve). I.E they have the smarts, but lack the temperment for me to consider them above average.
To be honest I could probably count on five fingers the amount of people on this or any other eve forum that have the total package. It is understandable because it is hard. It all goas back to why eve is a game, as the social aspect of Eve is so easy to either completely ignore, or use as a tool for deception.
In Eve as well as in R/L give me a person with average intelligence, and the right temperment over an above average intelligent person that simply cannot control themselves socialy. The thing about eve is there is no "real" need for project managers, office managers, Human Resources, Secretaries, or many of the other "social based" layers that are associated with so many industries. All you need is one guy with 15 alts and a good forum hore as PR for the masses. That fact is very evident.

That may be because I've seen you lack the temperament to understand the others position.
You said recently "The game isn't played on the forums FYI." here. This is the type of statement rubs me the wrong way. For me personally I subscribe to EVE for two reasons. 1) To play the game itself. 2) To participate in a community, more specifically, the Secondary Market community. I don't know if you where trying to tell us how we should be using CCP's services that we pay for. You don't have a right to tell me how I spend my time, and enjoy the services CCP have setup. You're not paying my subscription, if I choose to pay for a forum subscription rather than a game that is my prerogative.
It's a two way street, if you respect others they will respect you.

Some people stay and some people go. Thats life.
This thread, however, is nothing but trolling and in no way discusses the markets of New Eden.
Locked.
