1 grand prize winner will be chosen from those who hit 40 or more hours.
3 prize winners will be from the 25+ hour tier
5 prize winners will be from the 10+ hour tier, and
10 prize winners will be from the 2+ hour tier.
Winners will be chosen randomly from those who qualify for each tier.

Are you trying to tell us that 40+ people CAN win the 2+ prizes or ONLY the 40+?

No. It means that if you have 40+ playing hours using the Xfire client you have a chance to win any of the prizes.
If, say, 7776 people who entered the contest have 40+ hours, only 1 will win the first prize, but the other 7775 have a chance to win the other prizes as well, in addition to those who qualify for, say, the 2+ hours tier.
That help?

But see, 7776 is an extremely important number, and your OP doesn't include that! :)

They may look nice, but in all honesty I'd rather just have the $100 added to even more free time.
Alternatively, I would like a unique Eve background as an oil painting, painted by a noteworthy artist.
See, this is for when I inevitably win.

*cough* Ok so now next question.
Since I wasn't sure wtf was going on I put in 3 applications in 3 different clans and so now I am in 3 of the contest clans.... Is this bad? It's about time I put something sensible in here, but I couldn't really come up with something so you'l have to do with this. Are you like really bored, or did you not notice this is my sig? |

The random clan generator on http://www.xfire.com/cms/xf_eve/ does not work correctly as it appears they may have hardcoded automagically generated clan names that have yet to be generated.
Best bet at the moment is to log in and on xifre and navigate to
http://www.xfire.com/clans/officialeve#/apply/
Replacing the hash with a number, at the time of me trying the highest existing was

How does the prize distribution work once the lottery has taken place? Since there is no surefire way to link x-fire accounts to eve-accounts, and account info on x-fire accounts can be empty. All you have is an amount of time an x-fire account spent on eve.

Not sure but I get the impression it's a test of endurance to see who can keep this piece of junk app installed for 40 hours without going nuts. Instant I opened it it's popping up my visual studio debugger.
Apologies, but it's been an unpleasant experience so far. Trying to figure out if it expects me to manually install the updates it decided to automatically download at the moment.

I assume they e-mail the winners and get RL adresses that way. Since you have to join the EVE clans, only players in those will be picked, instead of any old Xfire member that just happen to have played EVE 2 years ago and logged 40+ hours...

I changed the last number to "7" from someones link "http://www.xfire.com/clans/officialeve4/" after hitting JOIN THIS GUILD.
When you get the GUILD IS FULL then keep going with the last number "officialeve5" and so on until you get a "Tell this guild owner why you should join"

So, umm, by the way, I think some of us (the guys who never actually INSTALL EVE because we just copy it over) might have a problem even if we manually select the EVE dir and launch EVE from XFire. "You have played no games on Xfire." I am pretty sure I was logged onto EVE a good couple of hours today

X-fire appears to be updating the profile stats about once every 6 hours. Unfortunately, it seems that the X-fire application needs to actually notice eve getting closed -while being online- in order to count the time spent towards your grand total. (Information on -how long- eve was running is given by your OS) Lost 6 hours because x-fire decided to upgrade something which caused my client to disconnect and not reconnect. After manually restarting the x-fire client, it went on with an update (I had since closed eve as well). Now my profile only accounts for a brief time spent online changing skills :/
Conclusion: Whatever happens, only close eve when your x-fire client is logged in or your time spent playing eve will be missed.

Quick question: Once you get into their little clan(s), do they just look at your profile and see how many hours it says besides EVE Online? === Q u o t e: If the servers aren't up, its not a hotfix. |

Well CCP all the more reason to get the COSMOS system developed so you can run contests like this with out having to go to a third party, or resort to outsourcing. Keep it all in the family so to speak.
go COSMOS!

Just FYI, this contest is not a way to give us free stuff, it's entirely to give Eve exposure on XFire. It's a marketing stunt, and if you're seeing it any other way you're just not getting it.
If CCP just wanted to hand out some freebies to dedicated players, there's far easier ways to do it, but the intention is to get Eve showing high on the XFire "most played" list, so that other people will go "Oh hey, what's that game, I've never heard of it. I guess it's good since soooo many people play it!" and hence get CCP more subscribers.
The best way to get us, the players, to give Eve exposure on XFire is to get us to sign up and artificially inflate our played hours, hence the 40+ requirement and no limit on alt accounts.

Ah, yes, that explains it - EVE crashed shortly (immediately?) after the XFire update.
Hmm... how should I put this... this sucks ? Oh well...

Duuh ! Thank you Captain Obvious I mean, other than charity for the poor (and not even that always), everything else that's "free" actually isn't. Still... what's the problem with it ?
