Only if you're stupid. Webs aren't the instant death they once were, and even whilst webbed transversal is relevant. Seriously, the tracking of a medium blaster (the highest tracking weapon in the game) is 500m/sec at optimal or so. Every _other_ gun tracks worse than that when you are at blaster optimal meaning the 100m/sec or so it does whilst webbed is significant still.

Oh, and it gets a range bonus on it's guns, where the Brutix doesn't. Antimatter is not the only blaster ammo.
Antimatter isn't the only Ammo, but even with Null, you cannot hit outside of overloaded web range or Scrambler range, that range bonus is completely useless. and fitting rails on a deimos is just a bad idea, might aswell fly a ishtar and use sentries.
Deimos has the same bonuses, but due to blaster's such short range,it can't put them to any good use
You're fighting in web range. That bonus gets you better coverage of web range. A Brutix is slowed down more, and less able to project it's damage when fighting that close.
That may not be always what you want, but that's the way it is. It may pale into insignificance compared to the ishtar, but ... well, have a look at some of the other races HACs and you'll see very similar situations - the HAC is more mobile in return for lighter damage output, and thus requires the pilot to use their brain a bit in order to make a good thing of it. -- 249km locking? |

Except the majority of dmg you receive in small gang -> large gang pvp are EM and Thermal. Solo, it's a toss up with barrage, scorch and blasters.
Deimos wins on style ofcourse. It's expensive to fly a dildo.

Because some of us aren't slaves to EFT, and we fly the Deimos because we enjoy flying it.
I find the Brutix ugly, awkward to fit and slow. I do not enjoy flying a Brutix. Okay, it "does more damage" and "has more tank". But so what? I enjoy flying the Deimos. Why would I want to make my game less enjoyable?
Idiots like the OP who don't actually play EVE and just play EFT warrior all day are (for me) the most annoying thing about EVE at the moment.
Tell me all you want about the Brutix being "better", I'll keep flying my Deimos kthx.

There's another point to flying a Deimos, and that's to humiliate your opponent by killing him in a crappy ship. The Hawk is great for this, a couple of days ago I fitted one up, named it "worst ship in game" and found and killed a Taranis before his inevitable Falcon mate could uncloak and lock me.

The Deimos is not a bad ship. I would argue that it's about as perfect a cruiser-sized blaster ship as you can get; it's agile, it has great gun bonuses, and getting bonus cap for sporting a T2 MWD is just gravy. It can hit at web range and beyond with Null, or it can melt faces up close with faction Antimatter. It can load up on ECM drones, pack damage drones, or do a little of both.
And, it's green.
The problem with the Deimos is that it's not cost effective. Most other HACs are reasonably survivable because you will be engaging from greater ranges or will have a batter tank. Unfortunately, to really make the Deimos shine, you have to gank fit it so you tend to be something of a glass cannon.
A 100+mil ISK glass cannon.
One that tends to get primaried right after ECM ships.
You can get better DPS at the expense of mobility in a Brutix or you can get similar agility at the expense of DPS and tank in a Thorax, both of which will run you far less than a Deimos. If you enjoy flying blaster ships and can afford to lose them, go with the Deimos. If not, go with the Brutix/Thorax.
I find this Thorax build very fun to fly and from what I can gather it handles much like a Deimos:
[Thorax, Rigged Ion Thorax] Damage Control II Tracking Enhancer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
10MN MicroWarpdrive II Warp Scrambler II Stasis Webifier II
Heavy Ion Blaster II, Null M Heavy Ion Blaster II, Null M Heavy Ion Blaster II, Null M Heavy Ion Blaster II, Null M Heavy Ion Blaster II, Null M
Hybrid Ambit Extension I Hybrid Ambit Extension I Hybrid Ambit Extension I
Vespa EC-600 x5
For 1/3 the price of a Deimos, you get 2/3 of the performance of a Deimos. This seems like a fair tradeoff to me. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Pouring dps onto someone is the main fun point of this ship. This and a kitsune partner is very good and makes a good gang ship with ecm. Its fast and it can lay on the dps quick as it is faster which is more benificial in some cases. It has a good role to fill but it just isnt as versitle as some other pvp ships which detracts from it, certainly from a solo pvp point of view. But your not going to solo all the time. Dont try to bend a ship into a role if you do your going to get very upset.

i think it could use a reworking with QR (along with the ishtar *cough* cpu *cough* but thats another post)
maybe removing the fail MWD bonus and replacing it with a 7.5% per lvl tracking bonus.
or CCP could just do the previous change they wanted ( increased base cap, removing mwd bonus and putting in armor repair bonus ) with the exception of instead of moving 1 low to a medium slot, where i think moving the 6th hi slot to 4th med slot and the bonus change could make demios a goos ship.
i do really think a tracking bonus instead of mwd bonus to make it a acceptable rail platform could be fun
really any combination of anything that makes the deimos more effectiove and more fun would be a nice boost, its such a nice ship and i would deffinatly fly it more if it didnt perform at such a t1 level

Flying Deimos is a lifestyle. Feels like flying kamikaze. I hope they increase its damageoutput tho so it really is the hardest hitting HaC out there again.
Maybe increase its HaC bonus from 5% damage to 7,5% damage bonus. Please?
The Deimos compared to a brutix feels alot more agile and faster. I don't fit plates tho, as mine are fitted with Neutrons for the range. 10+ km with Null is much more usefull for fast roaming gangs where most engagements happen on gates with max distances of ~30 km anyway.
Style factor: Deimos > Brutix
I don't hate the Brutix tho, as it is a great Anti-Support ship with rails. Very cheap, great range and damage. ---

1- Best ratting ship ever? How about a raven / CNR? Beyond Caldari, a domi or ishtar are both better ratting ships for gallente pilots. One is extremely tough, one is agile without losing high dps, but both use no ammo and can run multiple salvagers. Both share the advantage of being able to fight at a variety of ranges (sentries, heavies, lights, etc. vs med blasters). The high resists on the deimos are not unique either.
2- It does not have "insane" dps. It does less dps than a second-rate, tier one BC. Compared to the better HACs the design flaws of the Deimos become apparent. The Ishtar has more damage potential and fights from a wider range of distances. The Sac has a better layout and can actually tackle and inject cap without dropping its propulsion mod. The Zealot is the ship the Deimos wishes it could be with its bizarre range bonus. At least mid-range HACs have a use in anti-support. The sniper HACs are a niche, but at least they do something special for the money you invest. You can get 70% of a Deimos's performance out of a thorax for 5 mil. You can exceed the Deimos in all areas other than speed/agility for 20.
3- Yes, it's more agile than a BS. It also has no room for tackle AND an injector so the awesome tank caps out easily. Wanna fight a domi or mega in that deimos? Neut + web = you die to any close range BS (and alot of other things).
The Ishtar is the only gallente HAC worth touching. If it had slightly better fitting it would probably be my favorite ship in the game, but that's for another thread. |

Agreed that its a fun ship to fly, and has its uses, using null with neutrons in a fast roaming gang is very usefull, something that a brutix cant really do. However, for general pvp its pretty crap, and does feel like it has a very T1 use. Although i will still buy and fly the odd one now and again for the hell of it. Brutix is better for wtf'pwning damage onto people if you dont need to be that fast, i did use the deimos for this at one stage, but losong two a week starts to hurt.
I personay think gallente hacks are in a pretty bad state right now, Deimos lacks a real role apart from looking cool and being a laugh to fly, aslong as you have accepted you will die pretty quick. and the ishtar has fitting issues.

Edited by: Letifer Deus on 16/12/2008 17:45:59 We went over this a few weeks ago. The Deimos is subpar because, unlike the other quality HACs, such as zealot, ishtar, it does not make up for all of the downsides compared to it's T1 cruiser and BC cousins. It does not have that "thing" that makes it outshine them in some valuable area. Ishtar can spit 5 heavies with dronebay and drone range to spare (drone range is especially useful for sentries). Zealot has +10% optimal bonus. Vaga adds a whopping three slots and a turret HP to an already ridiculously fast stabber.
More DPS really isn't the answer because it already has awesome DPS relative to other HACs. This DPS, as others have noted, also makes it work quite well in gangs. The problem is when it is not in a gang of 5 or ten, but solo or with one other. I'll say what I said before again:
-change the MWD cap capacity bonus to between +15%-20% afterburner effectiveness per lvl -change falloff bonus to 7.5% tracking bonus per lvl.
I'd love to see them throw this on SISI so we could give it a try. It certainly could prove OP, but I think not. And it would definitely give the Deimos somewhere to shine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Brought to you by the letter ARRR!" |
