I heard someone say that a shuttle is `unlockable` in Empire space. Is this true? I`m aware of the disco smart-bomb issue, but barring lag isssues and such, is a shuttle `safe` in Empire?
How safe do you think they are?

or just making a stupid mistake.
generally, if you just warp to 0 from gate to gate you'll be fine. --

Pretty much the only thing that can catch you in a shuttle is a smart bomb camp. ===== * Your signature file is broken. Please use an image that will display - Fallout

There pretty hard to catch with out lag or some serious pilot error in your side. Better though is to buy a cheap t1 frigate, have good navigation (spaceship command specifically) skills, and fit a few istabs / nano fibers. It isn't hard to reduce some frigates mass to below a shuttles and haul balls out of there into warp just as fast, or faster.

Stabbers/AFs are good LeSkunk proof shuttles
Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

Yeah, I was talking about Empire, to the guy who mentioned hictors. This was a question regarding using a low skilled alt to haul very small but expensive stuff in a shuttle. On my main I`d use a inty or a covert and no bugger is catching me then, lol.

Low sec is Empire. You should have said high sec.

HICs by themselves would have difficulty catching a shuttle. Remote sensor boosted HICs on the other hand are trouble in low sec.
And yes you're right, low-sec is part of Empire. ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University.

Edited by: EChaos on 13/12/2008 05:57:17 Also there is an important distinction in where you're flying your shuttle.
ie. flying through gates, yes you're gonna be pretty much untouchable in HiSec, barring lag etc. However, coming out of a station where you have to make a full about turn to align out you are definitely vulnerable to being instapopped by something w/good scan res.
{Before anyone asks, I can insta undocking shuttles in those circumstances with an arty thrasher using 3 SBII's, scripted for scan res, obviously}

I used to fly a heavy dictor alot genrally with many remote sensor boosters supporting it, if I remember right the highest I ever flew the onyx at was about 2300 scan resolution and as far as i know thats about as high as your going to be able to get one with stacking penalties and all. Even then I never caught a shuttle that wasnt on auto pilot or afk. They go in to warp immediatly your not likly to get a locking bar and if you do it will be way to long.
I dont know if ceptors, frigates and stabbers will warp quicker than a shuttle or not but they dont need to, a shuttle will get past fine if your on the ball.

Hmm, you need better fleet composition. Just the other day we had a 5 man fleet and without using more than 3 RSBII's we had a ceptor at over 4500mm scan resolution. They are impressive mods.
EDIT: And BTW, my Keres (t2 frig) solo has 2240mm scan res, and I only have Signature Analysis IV

Thats an interceptor being compared to a Heavy Interdictor. Of course it has better scan resolution. Also, useless with out the war dec (or some other form of aggression. ie, not random camps in empire)

No. I've tried to catch shuttles with a sensor-boosted Malediction and it's just not possible. I knew the guy had just jumped through the gate, had a sensor booster with scan res script running, and switched to an overview tab that only showed hostile shuttles. I spamming Ctrl-click at the top of the empty list, started targeting more or less immediately as he decloaked, and got the message back straight away that "the warp ... is doing is preventing you getting a lock on them".
It is just not possible to catch shuttles on warp-out as they align in under a second, and you're just not catching them. I've been on the other side of the coin too, the only thing that can catch you coming through a gate is a bubble (or a smartbomb if you get really unlucky with positioning).
On the other hand, you do want to be spamming the "jump" button when you land on your target gate. I have caught enemy shuttles who were a little on the slow side when it came to jumping - as humourously noted above, they pop very quickly if anything can get a lock and start doing turret damage.

full rack of sensor-boosters except warp scram, but is difficult to say for sure as very small amounts of lag for either the victim or the shooter can have a huge difference on the outcome.
