Damn right there is.
So its wrong for a 2003 player to spend 1b of his isk on a Freighter Alt?
If he wants a freighter alt he should have to train one up, or - *gasp* - find a player with a freighter willing to haul for him.
Also,

Old players buying isk with gtcs ruins the game, too.

Thats a good point about the GTC - you could buy a whole bunch of them for real life money, sell em on these forums and make enough money to buy a new 36million sp character.
But in reality it would cost you twice as much buying gtc's as it would purchasing isk illegally - so naturally people are going to want to pay less for the isk - so of course they will turn to illegal purchases.
If ccp lowered the price to match the crooks then maybe people would buy from them - but then the crooks would lower their prices - so you can't win

Or they could just stop the GTC trade and crack down hard on the ****ers who buy/sell ISK from third parties.

If they stopped the GTC trade then more people would turn to illegal isk buying and removing the isk sellers is impossible. When CCP do find someone who has bought isk they do come down hard on them, but it's a tedious process to identify each buyer and the sellers just create new accounts whenever they get caught so there is truly no catching them.

Which is why you ban the buyers.

Just because something isn't easy doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. GTCs, if anything, legitimize the ISK trade, third party or not.

GTC encourages ISK buying for the committed and not so committed players!!!
Illegal isk buying is only worth it for those who do not plan to play for a long time.

I'd like to know how it really affects people - It is siad, it has real life consequences, like fraud - I mean is murder next. All this stuff is mentioned without any facts behind it - I would like to read some real stories - apart from a few paragraphs issued by ccp.

I know, its all emorage, but "ruins the game" come now, really. Please explain. Did they blow you up? Then they must not suck as bad as you thought. Did you blow them up? More loot and kills for you, whats your problem. Did they do something stupid in a fleet you were in. Your poor judgement, suck it up.
What was so hard about sitting around switching skills that makes you any better than someone who decided what they needed in a character and just bought one that met their needs? ---
The stage is set Someone's going to do something someone else will regret... The fuse will have to run out sometime Something here will eventually have to explode

I hear yah Nambu - I could be whining over spilt milk. Nothing to do wIth being ganked, blown up or beaten to a pulp in a gang fight - besides thats a normal day out in eve for me
To explain - I guess in a way this ruined the game for me. Working on a character for a year, and then having someone you know, just start playing buy isk to get a 36mill sp character just bugged me I guess. He didn't earn it. Now prancing around bragging about what he can fly - but yes maybe I should suck it up and play the game for my own reasons - the enjoyment:) not to be king of the hill

Why and how would it be possible to sell characters?
Wouldn't people have to transfer their whole account to someone else?
Can it be stamped out by the developers?

I sold my main last year for ISK. Wasn't able to play as much and got tired of FC work. So I sold my leadership char with FC 4, all warfare spec to 4, and all racial command ships. That 2.2 Billion ISK allowed my industry alt to get all the skills and decryptors I needed for R&D/Invention. Now that I have time again, just started a combat char again so I could try out the small ships and be a good lil sheep in fleet.

I have three characters I started back in 2006 between August and November. One has 37.5mil SP, one has 38.5mill SP, and the other has 33.5mil SP. I would never sell em. They are me. I shaped them, I formed them, I decided what they would become in game. They are me.
I would never buy a character in game. That character would not be me. I did not have a hand in shaping that character. It would not really be mine. I'm funny like that.

Well laugh at his mistakes let him make his own way and in 5 months he'll sell on the character. You may be able to get it at mates rates :)
/start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game four years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

Um, you may have noticed a whole forum on this site devoted to the trade. Look therein: your questions will be answered.

Mates rates - yeah that sounds good. Don't think I could take someone elses character though. I agree with Mistress. Starting a character from scratch, you learn to appreciate and understand the game. The character develops a history along the learning curve and you do learn from these mistakes.

Originally by: Slade Trillgon In my first alliance there was someone that joined up with fleet that I had not seen before. I checked them out and they were a 2005 player. They then asked a facepalm question and I was like WTF this guy can not be for real. I decided he was either a noob that had bought the pilot or someone spying and acting like he was a noob that had bought a pilot.
Either way I agree with your sentiment.
Slade
Actually, I've been away from game for about a year. So I was in help the day I came back asking a bunch of facepalm questions. Like, "What is the map button." and really basic stuff I had forgotten. Actually, a lot of the questions I found myself having to ask were a bit on the embarrassing side.
I think a lot of EVE players leave for a while, then come back. Since every time I come back after an absence, there are at least 5 other threads by returnees asking basic questions, since stuff has changed.
I'm still reeling over the whole concept of Amarr being a preferred race now. I played because I like the ship looks and avatars and the story background.
Also, don't forget about cross training. Someone that specialized in turrets of a certain type that starts training up missiles, might suddenly start asking a bunch of really basic missile questions. --
Nobody expects the Amarr Inquisition!

You don't learn anything if you don't ask questions. Remember even at school - It was the kid who was always asking the dumb questions - was the one who was always learning.
