Edited by: Minus Delite on 06/12/2008 11:48:19 If you saw a chars BIO was full of abuse and swear words what would you do? Petition him? ignor it?
I'm just wondering because my son and some of his friends really enjoy Eve and at 11 and 12 years of age I really think its beyond my comprehension why an adult would be so rude, so I asked him politely in local is he could tone his bio down a touch, for this his bio suddenly changed to, "you shud mind yur f*****g own buzines cuz you are a w****r".
Charming I thought to myself and pondered on the petition button, but then I was offered a challenge to "make him". so what does an unskilled player like me do about this. stay in station? or chase him around system bumping him in my pod. I choose option number two... lol Seriously though, what do you all think about this?
MD.
edit.. This char is not a new char, he is 3 or 4 years old in hisec.

Unless it is offensive to a wide range of people or a nationality then I think you should just leave it alone.
Originally by: EULA # ii. Game Rating EVE has a "TEEN" rating. Parents may find it inappropriate for use by children under the age of thirteen (13). CCP has established Rules of Conduct (discussed below) for players accessing the System and may, but is not obligated to, monitor and take action regarding inappropriate conduct. Nonetheless, it is possible that at any time there may be language or other material accessible on or through the System that you may consider inappropriate for children or that may be offensive to some users of any age. You acknowledge that other players may transmit communications or content, or access to content, that you may consider inappropriate or objectionable. CCP does not, as a matter of policy, prescreen the communications or content transmitted by each player and is in no way responsible for the communications and content transmitted by players of the Game.

A lot of people find swearing in bio's offensive.. Personally i dont care, but ofc if some guy goes WAY over line spamming his own bio with swear words and offenive phrases (sp) i would think "Idiot" and go on.If i had kids..well...Kids learn swear words from other places then games as well. And corp chats in game can contain just as bad language (if not worse) then some person dare to set in his bio. I can understand you want to protect your son from bad language. But as times are now swearing is way more tolerated both in games and in real life compared to what it used to be.All you can really do is try and keep an eye on him while he is playing eve and make sure he dont see to much crap, and explain him that he shouldent use those words/phrases him self, even if for most 12 year olds swearing is awesome ;) And also remember..in eve or games in general people let their inner kid out.So never think about a fellow eve player as an adult ;) You will build up a higher lvl of tolerase over this kind of players over the years, and try adn not let it anger you to much when people act like idiots.
Hope this was to any help.

First, calling him out about it in local was probably a mistake, and was bound to solicit the wrong response. Use the mail system, or a private convo.
Don't believe me, ask your kids how much they enjoy having something they've done being called "wrong" in front of a group of people. The mind doesn't let that go, no matter how much adults want to think they grow out of it. When publicly accused, most people will go on the offensive and attack they're accusers as a defensive mechanism.
Second, EVE is teen rated, so your kids will need to beware, knowing that probably 80+% of EVE's population are adults in one form or another.
Third, always remember your morals are YOUR morals. You may find swearing offensive, but others don't. My house would make a sailor blush, as swearing is a regular accepted happening (you should hear my wife, seriously). Laws, traditions, and moral grounding are different in many countries and families, and since we all are playing the same game, we will be exposed to those different ideals constantly. Were you to petition every swear word in EVE, you would need an army of petitioners, and likely would never get much playing done.
