Originally by: Pandora Panda Lets suppose that hypothetically, my corp has hundreds of people with eleventy billion skillpoints each online during the Euro timezones. Lets suppose our enemies have 7 people online during US timezones.
Does this mean that if I log on during US time when noone from my corp is on that I should be forced to go get ganked by those 7 people? Because thats basically what such an easy way to find safespots would mean. It also means that people will just mass logon and mass logoff because that will be the only safe way to do it.
Hell, we see the same principal at work with conquerable stations. I'm sure more than one corp has lost a station right before DT because a group of people who wouldnt even be a minor threat during peak hours swoop in and capture it.

"The PvpErs just want the easy kills instead of going after fellow Pvpers...."
True...
But I do like the original posters idea...
If you train all the skills, and have the mods, you should be able to warp to any ship...
However, CCP needs to offer skills & mods to counter this, to give those who want to remain hidded the option to do so, if they spend the time training the skills...

Yeah sure lets take away "Tracking a victim down" and make it much easier for people to get ganged raped by a bunch of weak pirates. You people just want the game handed to you. You don't want to use any skills at all. So sad..

Edited by: Selim on 16/07/2004 20:23:23 Safespots arent the problem. Its just that they need to be found. I think there should be a module that will track warp signatures and allow you to follow it, as long as they warped from the same grid. As for other times, there should be a module for black ops frigs (not covert ops) that requires lots of cpu, that increases the power of your scanner. It gives it up to (????) au range, able to filter out things like asteroids, and can, when you have the item in your scanner with the 5 degree radius (smallest directional scan), warp to it.
Countering this could be cloaking devices. And maybe a module which reduces your ability to be seen on the scanner, maybe only showing up 25% of the time? Requires a hislot.

I would like to see something done whereby pilots can actively manipulate the x,y,z coordinates within the 'create bookmark' window. Maybe allow them to type the coordinates they want and then fly to them. You could use your scanner to calculate range and direction, then translate that into coordinates and go.

Just ban all safespot hugging non pvp 0.0 space flying carebears and be done with arguments like this. That way we can get to taking them away without crying. And in the meantime the only people that will be left will be people who dont beleive in using safespots because they are an offense that the enemy has no defense for. Not fun and that to me is broken game mechanics.

Easiest solution i can think of which does not compromise safespots too much but which will reduce the time needed to track them down using triangulation.
Make speed alterations affect warp speed. That way you can warp at 500 000km/sec (minimum warp speed) and make the bookmarks at more precise locations using the scanner. This will make the triangulation a lot more doable than now.
Mind though that you will still be limited to the current warpable points as before. Only from planets/stations/moons/gates/bookmarks to another.

Forced fights, no
allow people to make there own choices, and allow expreince players give them a helping hand if they look for it
its a MMRPG, there are other people out there that will give advice.
Safe Spots it just another part of the game, its space... THERES ALOT OF IT. But as said, there has to be an ability to find people with them.. so it isnt impossible.

Oooooh, now THAT is a bloody great idea.
Perhaps make it skill related?
At Level 1 skill you can only reduce your warp speed by 25% :: 3au/s - 25% = 2.25au/s in a BS
At Level 2 skill you can reduce your warp speed by a further 25% :: 2.25au/s - 25% = 1.68au/s
At Level 3 skill :: 1.68au/s - 25% = 1.26au/s
At Level 4 skill :: 0.95au/s
At Level 5 skill :: 0.70au/s
Maybe the 25% bonus could be changed to 50%.......?
You'd end up with 0.04au/s at Level 5 with 50% bonus per level.

Have you ever tried finding a mid warp point?.I dont think so lol what youve suggested wont make one bit of difference......
I think what you want is to tell the warp engine exactly how much cap it can have, = distance....... Also as I've stated on the other thread........getting rid of safe spots will stuff the economy....so before you all shout "get rid of safe spots!!" I'd suggest you have a think about what that would actually mean to the game as a whole.....most people are totally fixated on the idea that it will enable them to find people hiding at safe spot....try and think beyond that

Have I ever tracked down mid space bookmarks? Ask Xetic that when they lost about 33 ships in one go (safespot tracked down together with wags from SA), ask the CA that since i have several ships around curse that were originally theirs, ask the old Venal alliance or the current PA since I have several of their ships.
In short YES i have tracked down midspace bookmarks, the easy ones, the difficult ones (12 hours needed to track some of those down) and even the far away ones (you know, those people who think that safespots at 300AU are any safer than another one)
I KNOW what the problems are with finding safespots and it is with that knowledge that i propose this fix.

I love Dukath's idea, but why add another skill for it? I'd prefer the simple route and just let anyone do it. Damn nice idea Dukath
In addition, the option of a 2 degree scan (to narrow down which moon a safespot is towards at greater distances) and a filter on directional and range scanners to take out asteroids if the option is set would be great

In short no lol
I use a specially fitted ship for accurate bookmark placing....... allowing people who lack smarts to be able to do what I can with little effort frightens me...
