From what i have seen, Eve vets seem to accept the changes and work around the new game mechanics and continue to move forward, unfortunately somehow at some point Eve's new players base has fallen below the standard quality the community once was.
Its easy to accept changes when you can fly 50 different ships. Not so when you focus all your SP on getting good at one ship (as you must if you are new) and then get it nerfed so its no longer effective. EVE vets dont accept changes because they are "special" but because they are naturally nerfresistant from their large amount of SP.
If i could not fly as many ships as i can now, i dont know if i would bother "starting over" again. |

Good post.
My definition of a vet is someone who has been around since 03/04 and is still continuing to play. Im my eyes, those people have been around long enough to see almost all of the major changes in Eve and are still truckin'. |

Edited by: RedSplat on 14/11/2008 15:23:29 The utter idiocy i often encounter amongst new players of similar age as myself and up to about a year old makes me despair. People often say with some pride that EVE isn't like WoW, it is harder and attracts a different type of player.
As much as i would like to say this is the ironclad truth- it isn't. Learning to play EVE with a basic level of competency is very, very easy. But many people still have huge problems with very simple game features.
That said, past the kind of basic competency you need to play EVE (say WoW style grinding of rats for hours) there IS a world of complexity- it lies in interacting with other players. Those who arent complete Morons.
For chirsts sake Vets, dont leave, please don't leave me with my peers |

Game is fine. I hit this yesturday with the "nerfed" blasters...
20:28:05 Combat Your Neutron Blaster Cannon II places an excellent hit on Kaahli [ARFRE](Abaddon), inflicting 1011.9 damage.
And that was on shields, not hull.
All the changes are pretty good imo, and while there are alot less god setups, I forsee recons and slave implants being nerfed next.

Originally by: Kalintos Tyl problem is that raven train to t2 fittings 4x faster than other races mission ships, and its still superior to them. People were used to get everything easy.
Problem is they completely forget about ESSENTIAL skills along the way to that.
Navigation skills, mechanic skills, electronic skills, drone skills; they say "why the hell do I need those for lvl 4's?" And now that you DO need those skills in a raven or a drake they are panic'd.
Experienced caldari players are not whining IMO. They realized how the equation was affected and slapped a target painter on their ship.
It's so funny to hear people whine about how their cruise missiles are hitting frigates for not alot of damage. That's a huge change from not hitting small frigs for ANY damage at all in the last patch. |

The occasional rare gem like this is why I still read the eve-o forums. Well said m8.
I've been playing since March 2004 with this character, deleted my first one I made in July 2003 around xmas 2003 because I realized training cruiser IV was REALLY painful with no perception. (You used to be able to take points OFF of attributes and reassign them at char creation.)
Probably the most poignant statement anyone can make in this game is "Adapt or die.". That's EVE boiled down to it's core essence. The whiners you talk about probably have Caldari BS IV, torps/cruise specs and some nice shield tanking skills. If they have any SP in drones, gunnery or other ship skills, then they probably got them from the freebie skills at the start of the game.
If you DON'T diversify your skills at some point, or at least generalize in your fitting capability, you will eventually be nerfed, and nerfed so hard you can't really do anything until you train those skills you should have already trained.
Oh, and for the missile folks, I remember when you could load up 2 cruise missiles per standard missile launcher on your kestrel. VERY cheap suicide ganking. Back then missiles never missed, and always did full damage, only mitigated by resists. One salvo was enough to pop any industrial, and the money came easy. They nerfed that, and made missiles only fit in launchers designed for the missile size as it is today. Oh well. Drones! Heavy NOS! wheee! 3 years they let us get away with that....NERF'D.
But you see, the idea is that each nerf we'd ADAPT or DIE. And after a few adaptations, you became nerf proof. I have rail/blaster specs up to large IV. My gunnery support skills are all level V. My drone skills? All the way up to T2 heavies. Ship skills? I can fly almost ANYthing Gallente, T1 or T2. I can also fly any Caldari T1 ship...gee...can you guess why? Nope, not for missile ships. I trained Caldari for the *ELECTRONIC WARFARE* vessels. Scorp, *8* mid slots! Blackbird, zomgspeedtankingjammermobile! Take a good look at the other ships your race has, you might find that adapting is as simple as selling the ship and buying a different one.

EVE has ALWAYS been a long term game. You don't train for next month, you train for the year after this one. If you don't get that, you lose EVE. |

You moron. Every 'vet' i know has those damage types in their bio. What you've described thanks to you incredible sherlock holmes effort is a 0.0 dweller who hunts rats for ISK and doesn't pirate. What in the holy hell is that supposed to prove?
unfortunately for you, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. you have been playing for 8 months. your security status is 4.9 and you've got 4.0 or better standings with several factions; obviously you run a lot of missions. you have managed to drag yourself out of npc corps but only so far as mission-running player corps. you're caldari, so you are flying a raven... and instead of defending yourself with an argument you just make some weird personal attacks.
And the icing on the cake; you've used l33t to spell your name. hilarious.
you are the problem. |

It's easy to stand back when you've been playing for years and have already been "forced" to cross-train several times.
That being said, missiles still suck in PVP and I don't mission in a Raven, so nothing's really changed for me either. I'll go stand in the Vet corner.

I actually omgirboredquit around August last year and only came back 2-3 weeks ago now. Yes, lost a lot of training time, but back then I was so tired of EVE I thought I was gone for good. I'd done everything, mining, pirate, research, manufacturing, trade, 0.0 living, PvP of all types, RP nationalistic Gallente, missions, ratting, even one of the first POS operators. I'd done it all at one point or another and just couldn't summon the energy to do any of it again. So, 1.5 yrs later, I'm back. I'm in 0.0. I'm killing flashy reds. I'm LOVING it again. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- RABBLE! RABBLERABBLE!! MMORPG: Many Men Online Role Playing Girls |

Back when i started server had 4000 max at sundays. I think CCP should have kept same policy with new players. Very hard beginning with 80k sp not 1m like now...That way players would have remained to that or similar amount, CCP wouldn't need to upgrade servers any more, there would be no lag, and also CCP would have a steady income with no need to spend extra money to update the servers again and again.
All those new players not only ruin the game by creating lag, they also want to ruin the game by destroying game mechanics and making the game eaasy-mode, just like WOW is and just like blizzard is who makes every suggestion to make the game easier, a reality...
I am caldari and i ****ing pwn you with or without nerfs, i've been caldari since i started and i will never change, and i wont ruin my char to crosstrain just so i can fly the trendy ship of the month.
Yes this is alt and no matter how you flame me you wont get the name of my main. My main is to busy pwning your noob a$$.

Nope, you just need to understand the risks that come with training for FOTM setups and realise that if something seems too good to be true, it will be changed.
The missile nerf whine is so loud because it has been coming for a long time so many, many people jumped on the 'easy to train for easy to use' bandwagon and over-invested in certain skills and setups.
Watch out for all these people saying "luz train Amarr naow". A year from now they will be at the percieved bottom of the heap again .Instead, missile users should stick with missiles, learn new setups and possibly train a few more supporting skills to compliment what they already have (drones and target painters for example).
Training missiles + drones + target painters takes about as long as it does just to get good with a turret setup so you shouldn't have any complaints there.
