I'm compelled to ask just where the hell the Jove folk went.
Yes, I realize how fanatically isolationist they are, but it seems that in recent months, what little regular diplomatic contact we've had with them has completely evaporated. At the risk of sounding paranoid or superstitious, I seem to recall that it roughly coincided with the appearance of that bright "star" thing that came and went over the course of a few weeks. Then the war started and I suppose people were just a mite distracted.
Still, it makes me nervous when the Jovians get quiet for any significant amount of time.

When have they been anything other than quiet?
I've met (well, seen) a couple in my time, and they appeared to be every inch as enigmatic and reticent in the flesh as they are as a collective.
maybe they're just watching. -

Why should they care about us at all really?
It's not like we are the shining beacon of reason and civilization that they can trust with a thing. I think the Jovians are pretty smart in their silence, "don't bother us and we won't bother you" and all that. Especially smart these days, to be honest.

Because we're a bunch of children. Honestly, why should they waste time with us when they have an epidemic of their own to deal with?

You are asking questions that have caused greater men to simply disappear.
Digging into anything related to the Jove is... well, not wise.

Don't be so dramatic, Ms. Subaka. I don't quite picture the Jove as the erasing-everybody-who-dares-even-breathe-hushed-words-of-their-existence type. That seems more like the ideological realm of the Enheduanni, if they are in fact anything more than a fairy tale.
And as true as it is that they have no real incentive to maintain conspicuous contact with us (since they can find out just about anything they bloody well please with a minimum of effort) it's frustrating to have them disappear as they have. They're quite the intriguing race, and the scarcity of information regarding their history and culture makes it that much more tempting to try to learn about them.
In fact, I recently spent some time out in the darkest depths of 0.0, roaming idly about in the Vale of the Silent trying to find some way -- any way, to make contact with them. Every so often, I would warp into a belt and spot something on my overview, only to have it disappear before I could even shift my camera drones to get a closer look. I don't know if it cloaked or warped or what it did. But damn it was irritating.

I would add that I live in a system wtih two Jovian-owned stations (Impro Factory) and I never see them around *there* either. The local Gallentians are pretty much running it for them for all apprearances. -----------------------

Ms. Subaka, I don't think the Jove will send out a hitman because of a simple and perfectly reasonable question.
Mr. Navillum, I think they may simply have been "scared away" by the war, they never were the ones to meddle in our affairs, though they are probably keeping an eye out. I don't think we will be hearing the real answer from a capsuleer however. Remember when we all got ourselves a nice little shuttle and got referred to as children? We're case studies at best.

The only time the Jove say anything these days is when one of them either blows up or goes insane and decides to give shuttles out to all pod pilots for no apparent reason.
I am sure they have their agents at work in the shadows, but they seem increasingly mentally unstable.

Edited by: Kimochi Rendar on 14/11/2008 10:49:02 The popular opinion of the Jove is that they are always behind the scenes, secretly turning valves and manipulating events to their liking. While i'm sure that this still happens, I suspect that they interfere considerably less than people think.
If I know anything about the Jove at all, then I would say that every action they take is deliberate and very carefully thought through. Before they undertake any action they have to know exactly what their desired result is, and exactly what they need to do to get there... Very precise, very clean and very efficient. The Jovians are the proverbial surgical laser scalpel, compared to the Khumaak of the other four empires. I like to imagine that they are great fans of the 'butterfly effect' - a gentle - almost imperceptible - nudge here or there sets in motion a chain of events to steer things towards their desired result.
My point is that they will only ever do anything if they have a clear goal in mind. Otherwise they are content to simply sit back and watch us... Learning from our mistakes perhaps. Regular diplomatic posturing just doesn't seem like their style to me. When you think of them that way, their deathly silence makes a bit more sense.
This is all speculative of course and I might be completely wrong... This is just how I like to think of them.

The Sisters of Eve suggest that it might have been the light from the other end of the EVE Gate when whatever it was that caused it to collapse occurred. Then again, the Sisters of Eve think EVERYTHING is related to the Eve Gate.

I still wonder if anyone had bothered to run a spectrographic analysis on the light emitted. It was certainly visible - and thus detectable by even a primitive spectrograph - for long enough. |

As that would burn as bright for a while before dissapearing? OR it oculd be Jovian attempts at creating there own version of the Eve Gate? |

Raising an eyebrow in aprehension Confliktus closes the screen and turns to gaze at the space around his ship, the traffic of the station is mild consisting mostly of trader ships and some police patrols despite the warstate in wich the Caldari State is at the moment.
"Perhaps its nothing to worry about", the initial feeling of relaxing gives way, his palms are tingling and a sentiment of unease now creeps trough his body, the kind of feeling that makes you tense and feeling that something is not quite right.

In my opinion, anything that is not observed *is* a threat. The worst case scenario for us is that Jovians have cured their epidemic and are building up an invasion fleet. That may seem irrational, but without any real observation or contact, it is impossible to say. |

Without proof all we have is speculation but that may be jumping the gun a little...
The Jove have in general been our benefactors, and only used force when provoked. I can't imagine anything that would have incited them to invade empire space, what little hope they had for relations between Jove/Empire-States has probably evaporated with the open declarations of war thus they've left us to fight our war alone.
But saying that, if one Empire emerges victorious out of all this mess then I wouldnĘt rule out a slight Jovian interference.

Typical Amarr paranoia and fear of what isn't under their control. Of course by observed I only assume you mean controlled, didn't you learn enough about them last time you tried to 'observe' them? |

it was probably nothing but me and a fellow pilot were recently near the edge of jove space doing a survey we were both getting strange readings of unidentified radiation, my buddy cross checked the readings with the galactic data base and found that it was something called Tesla omega radiation. That was all he could find was the name of the particle he took the name to a friend of his who shall we say deals in highly "sensitive" information and found that both the CONCORD and Caldari state data bases had class 5 restricted access on the information non digital findings. what ever is going on in Jove space its big |

So what if the Jovians like to keep themselves to themselves? Fair play to them, I say. If only a few other people would take a leaf out of their book, eh? Just imagine how much better the cluster would be if the Amarrians, say, to choose an example totally at random, just kept themselves to themselves instead of spreading their diseased philosophies all over the place like demented children on amphetamine.
Oh, and have you seen a Jovian? If I had a head that looked like a partially deflated football and a face like a well-slapped arse, I think I'd stay at home a lot too.

Our galaxy is vast, we know of just thousands of stars amongst hundreds of millions if not more that it contains. What would the Jove have to gain by conspiring against us? They certainly wouldn't need our territory.
We're nothing more than a distraction, sure they have shared some technology with us- we are their brethren no matter how much they've done to themselves since we our ancestors came through the gate.
They're probably exploring parts of the galaxy we'll not see for millenia, who knows what they've found. Eitherway, I don't think that we'll ever hear much more than silence from them in the future, unless they find something nasty and need all the help they can get to combat it, but even then, their tech is far superior to ours, would we be of much use?
I'm not fussed about them at all, leave them to it.
