1. Iceland smells. Rotten eggs or farts, depends on your perspective. Supposedly due to the hot spring water. Not mentioned in guidebooks! 2. Walking in Stations (WIS) looks cool but not even close to done. My guess is March at the earliest. 3. GM's are completely powerless. 4. Somebody needs to advise CCP on how to run a conference. There should have been an opening reception on the first day where the CEO did his thing and tables were marked with region names, alliance names or other trades so players could gather according to common interest. This fest was more like an pub crawl among old friends with a free t-shirt thrown in. 5. Getting to meet some devs was very nice. They were all too drunk to remember the conversations, but hey, input was made! 6. The pvp contest was the most interesting part (aside from the WIS demo). Kind of makes you wonder, when will the alliance pvp tournament return?
All in all not the best, most organized fanfest I have been to, but lots of people did show up, the devs were available and friendly and the t-shirt was cool.

1st. Calling it conferece is wrong. I look at it as more of a Convention or Con.

Well it is noticeable as soon as you get off the plane but it fades over time. So it is subtle and comes and goes depending on the wind and location.

I wouldn't be surprised if the smell of sulphur (most likely Hydrogen Sulphide) was pretty common, Iceland has rather a lot of volcanic activity because of its location on top of the mid-Atlantic ridge.

Are you sure it's not extreme flatulence on the part of the Icelandic people, due to their diet of rotting shark etc.?

That might add to the smell in crowded areas.

The smell in Iceland is not as bad as people say it is...
You get used to it within a couple of hours anyway.

Probably around the same time it happened this year, and the year before that, etc.

1. yes - volcanoes = cool to be hot 2. That was the plan outlined during the open talks (some of these could have been more clearly defined) I was sitting in on the one on HPC by Jamesw by accident just from chatting with a pilot from DUTY. Never did thank him the talk was damn nice. 3. Try openly exploiting and then say that. 4. Conference - meeting of professionals - fanfest a convention of fanbois/old lags, troublemakers and drunks. 5. You were meting them too late in the morning. 6. Missed the PVP tourney as I was touring the fart smelling eruptions. Totally disagree as to the most interesting part of the 'fest. TECH 3 is on the way. Totalhelldeath shortly thereafter!

Edited by: tiita on 09/11/2008 16:14:30 eve fanfest was brilliant!
and i was so very sick but still managed to enjoy the most of it apart from wednesday where i took my fever and my cold to see the geisyrs..)
the presentations were all extremely interesting. the world domination one, was just hilarious and the culmination of a fantastic fanfest. i really hope CCP or somebody who may have recorded the videos will put them online as soon as, especially the correct way of dealing with people responsible of the boot.ini incident. which apparently still haunts CCP. for what i could see the entire ccp staff was so nice and so happy to spend some time with everyone it was admirable. i wish more companies were so open
walking in station is coming together but as we were reminded multiple times, it is still a work in progress and the idea will need to develop further. at the moment it is a nice little thing but as far as we could see and try, but without many practical utilities apart begin a potentially monumental stepping stone. in the meantime there's some very cool minigames within it,available coming our way. hopefully the 4 faced rubik's cube wont be.. ;)
tech3 ship is something to maybe getting excited about ("maybe" only because they may be only for extremely rich toons, but time will tell). and i can't believe nobody asked to the panel any questions about it. yea, i know. i could have. but didn't. but yes, very very interesting and exciting
the tournament was a lot more fun than usual although maybe a little harder to follow. the finals were just presented and run really well. well done to everyone involved.
one of the coolest things was... well.. Tony Gonzalez's shadow. no kidding! loved the guy. he's looks and sounds like the legend everyone they say he is. and while he was presenting his shadow was probably the coolest of them all! check it out next time he's presenting..
what else? well the food was really good (that pizza was stunning). the location was always neat and clean.
couple of suggestions electric powerpoints.. of more the lack of. we have laptops, but laptops dont run so well on batteries, especially with eve, a browser and vent running. Maybe a lan station / room for next year? that way we could play a little or challenge each other a little :)
get everyone out flapping their hands to dissipate the clouds.. didn't get to see the auroras....
new sig on the way |
