Good to see some players are being proactive. Thanks for the advise.

One.......I qualified all my post by saying " If what skillshot says is true THEN "...
Omni- changing screen resolution is built into the game.....its an option that's designed to change the screen resolution of the game.....your comparing apples and oranges mate....sorry. nice try
As for CCP telling us how to do this in faq.........irrelevant to what I posted as I based my comments on what Skillshot said if it were true.
If blocking all those addresses stops things such as news ect.........why would CCP in the FAQ tell people to enter just that one address and not tell people to enter all those extra addresses? seems strange to me especially if they are necessary to the game....
" whatcha say to that? huh! "

setting firewall rules cant be illegal because ccp has no authority over any firewall period :) if ppl choose to block part of the traffic and still be able to play then there is nothing ccp can do about it (except maybe complain) -----------------------------------------------

Well anyone running a personal firewall like Sygate might notice that (when viewing Connection details), that EVE only Connects to 157.157.139.10 via local ports 1030 & 1033. So blocking IP addresses your not talking to should have no effect.
If your connecting to any other Eve related IP address it is because you have another application running which has that connection.

i want to be that if they just shut down the forum for a week they will see that the lag-situation will improve a lot.. its the worst possible way to let the game and the website run on the same cluster/database because the one half steals the other halfs cpu/bandwith and on top of that the disk-arrays have heavy load because of all the scrap written on the forums.. seperate them now and you have less problems :) -----------------------------------------------

Edited by: Sybylle on 05/07/2004 14:27:44 So far, if you wish to have access to eve throught a firewall, you only need 157.157.139.10 ports 1030/1033 opened for the game, and 8080 for the news&site.
Anyway, there might be some trafic on other ports anyway. I'll try to check that.
In any case, closing these ports is definitely NOT an exploit as people behind corporate firewalls are already working (read playing) like that. If something is borked in the code, you can infact have some trafic on other ports, for whatever reason beyond my understanding. So far I gived Eve's executable all accesses, whatever the port and IP. I'll change this like if I was behind a corporate firewall and give access only to the recommended ports & IP.
And stop that stupid "exploit" thingy as soon as somebody tries something you didn't thank or are unable to do.

Yes...I don't know why it was done like that. It would be a good thing to put forums out of eve's cluster me thinks. Maybe they are working on it already (/me hopes so, at least).

You can mess with your IP settings as much as you want, closing access to the news, EVE Insider etc. The game only uses 157.157.139.10. Blocking the rest is your choice, so go ahead if it makes you feel better _____________________________ I say hey sky, s'other say I won say, I pray to J I get the same ol' same ol. |

Oveur?
What's the rest? I know the 8080 is used for web thingies. What are the other things please (and what ports also)? This would help to track what eats the bandwith the most. Unless it's a secret...it would be good to know ^^ Thanks (\_/) (O.o) (> <)=Oveur (proof) "Jumping 50 systems I can like, have sex 150 times during that period" |

Not good mate.............next you'll be altering code.
"....Watcha gonna dooooo....."
Dont you think that if this was an exploit a GM or DEV would have posted here and the topic locked and he banned?
If he was looking to gain the edge over other players do you really think he would make this post?
Please engage brain before posting mmmkay.
Take your own advice mate............let me explain something thats painfully obvious to me........... one....GM's dont sit all day reading forums two.....if skillshot and other do this, and what skillshot says is true then he and the other people who do this will have an unfair advantage in EVE
You seem to think that if you tell others of an exploit then it ceases to be an exploit.......I'd suggest you have a think before you post, and possible finish high school.
"whatcha gonna doo omnibore! when the biggest guns in Eve run wild on YOU!"
Dude take a chill pill for Orestes has posted in this thread and he has a direct communication line with officials, if this was an exploit this would have been locked by now.
I assume its an exploit to lower the graphics, remove features in settings and remove sound with alt+ctrl+shift+f12 as well?
You are not qualified to announce that is an exploit and what is not, neither am I but I draw my conclution of Orestes posting and the topic not locked yet.
get a grip and stop your god damn spanish inquasitions (sp?) for it isnt cool being the stiff guy.
Omni dont even bother with him its not worth it, if he wants to be dumb and die due to lag issues he can. Just ignore the exploit comments in local that will follow

Quote: block 157.157.139.0 to 9 then 157.157.139.11 to 255 to reduce lag
Is that incoming or outgoing? I think most ppl block incoming so I'd guess that would be outgoing.
As for how to set the firewall rules in ZoneAlarm: Go to the firewall tab, in the advanced part (I think thats it, you cant miss it, not many tabs there). Make the FIRST rule an ALLOW for the IP/port you need to play the game. Make the SECOND rule a DENY the ne to block all 157.157... traffic.
That way gamestuff matches first rule and gets accepted, all the rest hits the second rule and is dropped.
I'm gonna try this as soon as I get home.
If you use this and want to browse the forums you can go to the same tab, right-click on he second rule and select disable. Don't forget to change the tab to something else (don't minimize) so the new rules can take effect.
