Care to run that logic by me again... a Star Wars MMO, an MMO devoted primarily to an immersive sci-fi world created by George Lucas, set primarily in space, is allowed to have ambulation, but EVE isn't?
I'm struggling, genuinely, to understand this blinkered view that pigeonholes EVE into 'can't expand, must be about more spaceship Unreal Tournament'. What about planetary interaction? That's been on the drawing board for years. I can dig up old 2004 magazine articles about CCP's plans for that.

Quote: When the game was first conceptualized in 1999, the small team's goal had been to create an online environment that would allow players to take part in an experience that was reminiscent of a classic sci-fi movie. Technology at the time being what it was and the team being as small in size as it was then, the early developers had to settle for the original ships-only design. Torfi Frans Olafsson, the game's Senior Producer, described the game as it was on its 2003 launch as, "just shooting people and mining rocks". Since then, the game has evolved in a number of ways, growing in size and scope along with its community as the developers have endeavoured to continue to evolve the game into something that more closely resembles that interactive sci-fi flick.

The tough luck would be on any account associated with spreading these if it was indeed prohibited. I don't have a hard time seeing the banhammer come down on this guy. Will you lol then too?

It was not prohibited. Only limitation was when people got to try ambulation themselves.

I hope this isnt a manditory part of playing eve when its released.
Really looks pointless to me, but then again they are targetting the other end of the market of players.
Looks like they want a different riff raff playing eve

For the love of Jove--No, it is not and will never be mandatory to leave your pod. The devs have stated this very clearly in just about every thread related to ambulation with a blue bar.

I will never use this Ambulation crap TBH...
Kessah, Look at the bright side!
I can't wait for the crowd that will think this is cool to join EVE... Hopefully if CCP hasn't castrated PVP too much by then I'll be able to introduce them to what EVE (used to be about) when they undock.

They can do it, sure - it's their game. But I joined up to fly ships around; I already have a wide range of games available that let me walk/ talk/ get in fist fights, not to mention the premium version known as 'real life'. It's an amusing diversion but an entirely different game from the one I am subscribed to (where I like to do things that aren't at all possible in real life).
This is one of those features that's been in the pipeline for ages, and needs a lot of design/ art/ programming resources which might otherwise go towards the flying-in-space part of the game.
By the way, ever look at the station background while you're docked? Notice those massive interiors, with ships cruising around in the background? Seen any demos of being able to fly your shuttle or whatever around the interior of a station? Or people fighting inside abandoned stations? Seems to me that this would be a natural growth of modeling interiors before designing bars and game rooms...too bad. Oh well, off to train 'Walking', 'Fashion' and 'elevator operation' to level V.

Personally, I think it looks great. Don't get me wrong, I still love the ships, and will always be the most willing to undock carrier pilot in the game, but for those nights when your overly long red list is hunkered down outside the station in Interceptors with four motherships providing fighter support at the local POS, this definitely gives me a solid reason to remain logged on while I await the utter boredom of uncontested station camping to take its toll. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

Do we not have anything better than 2009 for a release estimate? Not even whether it will be before or after the March expansion? I attended the fanfest, and I still feel as if I only know as much about Ambulation as I did before crossing the Atlantic, honestly. |

Stated where and when?
Stuff never where ya need it come quoting time. It was stated during the live dev blog that no cameras/videos/etc., would be allowed during that presentation, and there was another reference to it in one of the fanfest bits regarding eve-tv and the delayed broadcast stuff.
Of course trying to search for it comes up with 50 zillion hits of no relevance, but hey.
The vids that are hitting youtube are bootleg in the grandest tradition of yarrage!!
we were allowed to record in the presentation we were'nt allowed to record in the demo room (were we got to play it ourselves), but there was some reporters in demo room recording I heard them say they had hard time getting in, maybe we see there footage eventually.

What i can't understand, is the complains from people who...let me bold this point...don't have to take part of it.
It's optional. Look it up in the dictionary.
What the freakin hades do you care if some other person spends their time in a station?
Please, one logical, intellectual, even remotely senseful reason to WHY NOT.

I have to wonder how much further they would be with updating the graphics engine for the core EVE gameplay (i.e. the actual space stuff) if they hadn't concentrated on this first. I think they really should have finished that before starting on this. Yes it does look pretty though.
They are in serious danger of having a sideline part of the game looking much more pretty than the actual core game itself :( |
