First does any of the stuff writen here ever make it to eve cannon? Or is it basically just people RPing to better immerse themselves in the game?
Secondly please wait till you see the big "The End" to start posting about the story.

A gentleman in a white lab coat sat nearby looking over a datapad tapping his fingers absently on the armrest of his chair. ôWell, your tests came back fine and everything seems to be in order. I just have a few questions and we should be done here.ö Thadius was nervous to say the least. He knew why he was here, but everyone had told him he was insane to even think about such a procedure. It went against almost everything that was Gallentean.
Thadius was born on Dodixie VIII to an average Gallentean family. They werenÆt poor but they most certainly were not rich. Thadius wasnÆt particularly good at anything, but he wasnÆt bad at anything either. When Thadius was 16 years old, his fatherÆs employer asked his father to relocate to Dodixie X. His family traveled on an industrial freighter with no accommodations. As the family left their home and traveled out of the atmosphere, Thadius was entranced with the sights that overwhelmed him. The colors of the planet seemed more alive than he could have ever imagined. The stars were bright and vibrant. He could see billions upon billions of them, not just ten or even the thirty normally seen on good night. That flightÆs experience burned into ThadiusÆs mind. That was when he decided he had to become a star pilot.
Thadius began to look into the prospect as soon as he arrived at his new school. The career advisor told him to not even try, such a dream was impossible. He then tried to convince Thadius that working in a factory or several other uninspiring jobs would be just as rewarding. Thadius finished school and started to look into careers, and the first thing he looked into was how to become a pilot. Thadius was dismayed at the cost of surface to space training. It was astronomically higher than any other job training he had seen. On top of that, jobs were so scarce that his odds of being picked up by a corporation were almost zero unless he had some sort of connection.
The Federation Navy seemed to be his best option to become a pilot or perhaps even one of the vaunted capsulers. The recruiter promised him that with his test scores he should easily be moved into officer training and would be soon flying a frigate, moving up the ladder to perhaps one day fly a battleship. He signed up and was quickly shipped off to boot camp. He was given a gun and put through basic training like anyone else, never even given the opportunity to try to move up. When he asked about a promotion, he was laughed at by his sergeant. His sergeant then told the rest of his squad about the ôpilotö they had in their midst. Thadius was tormented and teased the rest of training. He contemplated just going AWOL, but knew that with tensions so high due to the recent Caldari incursion, a deserter would be treated very harshly. He had heard rumors of people being put to death for treason if they left. Thadius doubted such a thing was still practiced, but he knew he would end up being sent jail at best. So Thadius stayed until his three cycle tour was up.

Without the proper connections, it seemed Thadius would be forced to stay planetside forever. He returned to live with his parents, feeling he had nowhere else to go. He didnÆt have any ambition anymore; he just sat around watching holo vids or browsing the nets. Thadius knew it wouldnÆt be long before his parents gave him an ultimatum to get a job or get out. ThatÆs when he stumbled across a holo news story about ôAlternative Lifeö. It was a corporation that provided a very unique opportunity for people to become a capsuler. If that was all there was to it, Thadius would have gone immediately. But the news program was about how terrible Alternative Life was, and the problems it caused.
ôThis is Jasmine Plumartre reporting on a legal form of human trafficking that can be found in most large cities within the federation. It is the process of imprinting someoneÆs mind with someone elseÆs. This inhuman practice erases a personÆs true identity and they become someone else.
No one knows where this process originally came from, most sources say that it was most likely Amarrian. This concept originally was an alternative method to cloning. Using a live person to transfer a mind to, was felt to be more pure than using a clone. It was quickly established that this practice was impossible to do. A body with a developed mind cannot have a full new mind placed over it, too many problems occur and it kills the recipient in every case. Clones were the only way to truly duplicate a mind in a host body. However the idea of live people as mind transfer didnÆt die off as you might expect.
By using a passive scan of a mind, rather than a full scan, you can record a personÆs mind without killing the person. This scan is not a perfect copy as it passes memories from the host. It does not pass along skills or training that the original mind has as this is stored in a different area of the mind. This leaves the host body with two sets of memories overlapping each other. The downside is that with this layered memories, the person will change. Many feel the new mind overpowers the original mind. Also another disturbing effect is sometimes this æimprintingÆ has been known to cause mania or multiple personality disorder but we are told this is very rare. ô
A spokesperson for Alternative Life looked small and pale next to the tanned reporter. ôWhat do you have to say about the allegations that peopleÆs minds are destroyed and identities lost when they have your procedure?ö she asked. He spoke into her microphone, ôIn fact the person would not lose a single bit of their identity. They keep it all and they gain so much more. Because becoming a pod pilot is so difficult and expensive it is seen as an impossible goal for the average man. It is much easier to simply imprint a candidate with the memories of an existing capsuler. By doing this, the candidate is able to bypass high costs and years of preparation needed and simply be ready within a day after the treatment to start their new life.ö Cutting back to the studio Jasmine continued, ôI talked to several individuals that had children or siblings that had the procedure done. All of them said that the person they knew had changed so completely that they were no longer themselves. A darkened figure appeared with their voice obviously altered. ôMy brother had all his memories, but he wasnÆt my brother any more. He had changed. His personality was different, his speech patterns were changed, and he just wasnÆt my brother any more. IÆm not sure you can understand, he looked like my brother, knew what my brother knew but he wasnÆt him anymore.ö The figured disappeared and Jasmine concluded her comments, ôHow can such a barbaric idea be allowed to continue is beyond this reporter, back to you, Steven.ö The camera panned over to another reporter but Thadius turned off the news.

Edited by: Esiel on 28/10/2008 22:23:12 His dreams had been given another chance, but he was skeptical. He didnÆt want to destroy his mind but the lure of space was too much. He talked to his parents and friends, but they were appalled at the notion. He tried to dismiss the idea but he couldnÆt, so he decided to submit an application. They asked for nothing but his attribute scores from school. How could they know if he was someone they wanted if they didnÆt even interview him, give him tests or do anything. Thadius began to think this was a scam. He got a job at a local factory building robotic mining parts. Months passed. After another tedious day at work, Thadius came home and found a message from Alternative Life. They asked him to come in for an appointment. Thadius was anxious, but he knew he had to go. So here he was answering a few mundane questions from this man in the lab coat. Thadius asked, ôYou sure this is safe? I will still be me, wonÆt I?ö The man smiled. ôOf course you will. Now sign here and letÆs get you ready for you new life as a capsule pilot.ö
*****
In another room, two men stood looking at a monitor showing Thadius getting prepared for the procedure. The taller man wore an expensive suit. He was the administrator of this particular branch of Alternative Life. ôIs everything to your liking?ö he asked the other gentleman. This second man seemed completely ordinary unless you looked closely. Then you might see the skin patch covering the socket in the back of his neck; this was a true capsuler. ôYes, he will be a perfect Alt. Where do I pay?ö
THE END

Edited by: Esiel on 28/10/2008 22:27:13 The only reason I asked about cannon was nothing is talked about Alts as far as I can tell in Eve lore. They are so common that it is almost a given people have them.(Espcially when you are given 3 slots with one subscription) It seemed odd that they had reasons for so many things that make up Eve, but have not come up with anything to explain Alts. With this in mind I did a bit of thinking and came up with this story to explain how Alts could have a place in Eve. I hope you like and feel free to comment (or flame)

Hehe... now THAT is an excellent suggestion for the alt epidemic.
To my knowledge, no official explenation has ever been given for alts. My running theory was that they were the result of Capsuleers re-registering under false credentials, but I like your idea better. ----------------------------------------------

Well, the alts can't really be explained in-character. While I personally prefer to keep my alts in the same 'block', technically the different alts could be at war with each other. Some might play the alts as different family members, servants etc. - the only limitation is that the alts on the same account cannot meet.

Nice theory about alts. Personally been treating them as employees, friends, slaves, you name it really...but this could be an explanation for the similarly named and looking alts. Will be keeping this idea in mind.

To the best of my knowledge, stuff here does not make it to canon. That's one thing I would actually like to change (see my sig).
As for explaining alts, I'm not sure they need, as a whole, to be explained. Alts that people RP with are often explained, as mentioned, as friends, family, employees . . . but many have no relation to each other, and are quite separate. They're totally different characters, and what someone knows IC through one character has no effect on what their other character knows.
Alts need not have any relation, they might simply exist so that a player can RP multiple characters because they enjoy doing so, or in cases where they do exist to help the main, are often individually explained if they exist in an RP context -- or they simply might not exist in an RP context, which is also fine in most circumstances.
That said, your idea is fairly interesting, though I'm not sure how well it meshes with existing PF . . . but it's kinda cool anyways.

I RP my alts as being in the same family as my main (this character). Elex Akat is the younger brother who would much rather fight then be a boring miner/industrialist while Kamarra Ramak is a former slave that Mernor adopted after rescuing from a slaver gang in BBO's HQ station.

Don't believe things here make it to Canon any more.
Cold Wind, for example, was initially posted here by a player.Additionally, I believe most things in EON have been player written, though those generally have a no-previous-publication rule. --------------

The thing about alts is that they're regarded as full characters. Apart from characters on the same account not being able to meet, the two characters aren't necessarily connected in any way whatsoever. I happen to know about a Minmatar player who decided to pod his Caldari alt (the two were on seperate accounts)...

Edited by: Esiel on 04/11/2008 01:48:16 While I am glad some people understood my story I am not sure others have. I have played this game for about 2 years now and I have noticed that for a lot of people Alts are not separate from their other characters but extensions of them. When one speaks on a subject it is the same as if another did. As so many people seem to do this I started to think how this could be possible in the Eve universe. So I came up with this story as the way one character could speak for another and share the same mind even thou they are different people.
I am not trying to take away from people that want to RP differently for each character, that is their choice. I like to feel part of the story and I felt that the story made Alts become more of the story. (I am referring only to people that use Alts as an extension of their other characters.) When something is as prevalent as Alts can be explained as part of the way eve works, I feel makes the story richer rather than limiting it and trying to explain them away or pretend they donÆt exist.
(On a side note, when I become involved in things I like to try and make myself part of that thing. Call it a fault or an endearment or whatever, but I want to be part of it. That is why I ask if this could ever be cannon because I think it would be incredibly cool if something I did was added as part of it. I would like to hope that everyone has that chance if they applied themselves and tried. )

On the Canon subject again, you can still apply for a story to be in Eon. Check on the OOC forums (www.eve-chatsubo.com) there is a thread on there somewhere about it, who to email it to, what the requirements are, that kind of thing. --------------

Well I thought I would try out eon and it turns out to be true that they won't publish anything allready printed. So if you have a story and you are thinking about submiting it to eon, send it first before you write it out in these forums. .

Yeah, if you have something you want in EON, send it to them first. Before doing anything else.
If they reject it, then you are free to post it here, or on places like the Eve Fiction website.

I used to think of my alts as one happy family This toon, (trader alt) is the mother and family breadwinner
- The father, (semi-active research alt) just runs around the visiting exotic dancers... i mean.. collecting datacores :p
- The older daughter (my main) is a merc/pirate and basically just wasting her mom`s money replacing BSs
- And her younger sister (cov-ops alt) is scouting for her sister, also sometimes get blown up too :|
