Edited by: Ljonynja on 27/10/2008 16:05:06 This is something I heard about some time ago. I got the gist that it had something to do with escaping gate camps by playing some trick with a cloak and a MWD.
Is it just "try to align, hit the MWD button, hit the cloaking button, and hope for the best"? This is what I have been doing with ABs so far (with rather limited effect, 50% escape ratio from bubbles so far...), is there anything else I "should" be doing or that is more effective when using MWDs?
EDIT: I will most likely be in a frigate. If this is more effective on any other kind of (T1) Caldari ship, that would be nice to know, too. |

For a frigate it is not worth the effort. You will almost certainly be able to align faster without using it. This trick is more useful on heavier ships.
It takes practice to get it right. This is how it works:
- Align to destination - Activate MWD - Activate Cloak - Wait for MWD to finish its cycle - Deactivate Cloak - Warp to destination
The key is that your MWD will not deactivate until it finishes its cycle. This allows the MWD to counter act the webbing effect of the cloak.
What you are hoping for is that your MWD+Cloak speed is approximately the same as 75% of your regular speed. If it is, then you can warp the instant you decloak at the end of the MWD cycle, as you momentum will hold you at the speed needed to warp.
If you decloak too soon or too late, then you need to accelerate before you can warp.
The other catch, is that if anything gets within 2500m of you, your cloak won't work so you will be vulnerable.

The whole point to this tactic is to try and get outside of the bubble. This tactic works great for lowsec gate camps. There is always the chance that the campers will bolt straight to where you were and try to uncloak you.
This works wonders for lowsec gatecamps where they cannot use a bubble.
PS. Make Cov-Ops cloaks usable with gate cloaked. Having to uncloak to cloak is stupid! |

This takes a lot of the fun out of flying a CovOps. Flying through a hostile bubble camp with interceptors all around is great for the adrenaline glands. They know you're there, you know they know you're there....fun all round. ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University.

Agreed, it takes some skill (or rather experience) to do it properly. Which is good/fun/exiting. |

I am a scout. I fly Cov Ops. I vote no to cloaking while gate cloaked. The whole point to cloaking is that you are safe 90% of the time, so leave the remaining 10% alone, it separates the amateurs from the professionals. Anyone looking for a scout, knows one of two things:
1. If the scout gets caught, it'd be better be a frackin' bubble camp with +10 campers orbiting with drones and jetcans 15km off the exit side.
2. If the scout is not ready to accept this level of risk, he's no scout, he's a liability, so get rid of him, and find another.
Scouting should always involve risk, to counterbalance the power covert ops provides.

A good covops pilot with a lot of practice can move and recloak so fast you won't even see him on the overview- or if you do it'll be so fast you won't have a hope in hell of targeting him or even seeing where he was relative to you.
On the other hand, a good ceptor pilot will be watching for brackets in space and making for the place where they appeared. ;)
A better covops pilot will shift direction after beginning to move or move in a direction not directly to the edge of the bubble.
Covops are a hell of a lot of fun to fly, and even more so if you can do it well. I love sneaking through bubbles.

Covops alt 1: haha, you don't have probing rigs on, and your probing skills aren't maxed out, you're a newb! covops idiot 2: man, your setup is all wrong, you're a newb.
FC: right, we need someone to scout ahead 10 jumps oh and next system has an 80 man gatecamp, who wants to do it?
Covops alt 1: errr, no sorry. I read on what probing is but I actually don't have a real clue on what a scout is. covops idiot 2: err no thanks, I'm an EFT warrior without any actual clue on game mechanics and tactics.
me: Sure np, I'll do it. I'ts fun! I know what I'm doing and should be doing, my ship is setup to deal with bubbles and lots of warping capwise. PS, FC if you want me to point someone or light a cyno just say so, it's all fitted. Cause I am a real scout and not some static alt/idiot.
Being a proper scout is a specialization, it has less to do with SP but more with experience and awareness. It's great fun!
