For anyone that has knowledge of how exactly codecs work, assistance would be appreciated: I have used Lagarith in YV12 colour space before extensively and flawlessly, but on an older computer. I recently switched to Vista 64 and put my applications such as video editing software on a separate drive adjacent to my system drive. I'm making a wild guess this has contributed to the problem.
I've installed the Lagarith codec (x64, with the .bat file) and After Effects CS3 will output a Lagarith file but cannot read it if it is fed back into the program (black screen). Similarly, Premiere will not read avi files encoded via Lagarith. Sometimes it'll cause a blue screen trying to read them. However, these files are read fine by Windows Media Player and KMPlayer, both of which are on my system drive. I'm thinking I haven't installed the codec in such a way that Adobe software on drive E can access required codec information on drive C.
Barring a reinstall of the software on drive C to see if that works, which I'd rather not as it's a slower disk, what else might I try? |

Oddly enough I might have been wrong. It seems the RGB and RGBA colour spaces work perfectly fine and are read by Premiere. It's only being temperamental with the YV12 and YUY2 colour spaces, which for the life of me I can't figure out. |

I have no idea how to fix your problem, but I'm happy you are working on another vid \o/
I don't see how having premiere installed to a different drive than your OS would matter though. I installed premiere to a storage disk like you did and lagarith works great with it. I've never been able to use uncompressed AVI though, I get the same problem you get with lagarith. |

Edited by: Margulus on 10/10/2008 05:10:26 Can you post your graph output? I have a feeling this is a filter issue or similar... You said you were under vista, a common issue with the x64 version is the .bat will actually fail and you have to install manually. Also be absolutely sure you are running with admin privs when you do the install!
Also, have you tried alternate lossless formats to see if you have similar issues? FFV1 or the like?

I've looked at my graph output and it's fine for RGB(A) video encoded via Lagarith, but flat for any YV12 video. I reinstalled the codec using the setup executable that's also available instead of the .bat but got the same result (made sure I cleared my registry of Lagarith entries too). I am certain that I'm running with administrator privileges because it says so and I'm the only user.
I've not tried any other lossless formats just because I'm not sure what the other ones worth using are. I'm fine with using Lagarith in RGBA mode to be honest -- it does a fine job as a intermediary format between AE renders and Premiere sequencing even if it's twice the size of a YV12 render -- but this is just one of those small nagging problems that I can't get off my mind. :D

Try this:
1: Start=>run=> c:\windows\lagarith.ini
Should read something this:
[settings] multithreading=1 lossy_option=0
2: Change this to:
[settings] multithreading=1 lossy_option=3
3: Save and close.
4: Re-open AE or Prem and try again.
It might require a system restart.
That "lossy_option=" can be 0,1,2,3 and 4 and that is for 0:RGBA,1:RGB,2:YUY2,3:YV12,4:Reduced Resolution.
If the figure is already "3", then I'm stumped.

No, but interestingly there's no multithreading option. I'll tinker around with that and see if it works.
