Has anybody else noticed with the improved graphics that your ship square is no longer the origin of the directional scan? When I'm trying to do 5 degree scans of certain celestial objects, you would usually align your ship square over the object you want to scan. Well, it seems to be off with improved scanning, as I've got to tweak it around that square in order to find out the origin. Anybody else aware of this issue?

I never had to align my ship, the scanner faces which ever direction your camera is pointed. __________________________________________________________

Edited by: Kuar Z''thain on 08/10/2008 20:36:19 I have not noticed any issue with this. Stupid question, but are you holding down alt so you can see your ship's box? Its got some weird placements on those covops.
edit: damn apostrophes.

Edited by: FeralShadow on 08/10/2008 20:48:38 No, you dont align your ship. The origin of the scan is from the ship's "white box" which.. doesn't scan properly when i line that white box over what i want to scan with 5 degree directional scan. And.. no.. i click the ship to get the box, not hold down alt. Should i hold down alt? For example.. i highlight the ship square and line it with a station that's within max range scan.. select it to 5 degrees, and have all overview settings off.... I dont get anything showing up. _______________________________________________ "If you want to taste the ground, feel free to attack." - Kenshin Himura -CDS Now Taking Contracts-

IIRC, stations don't show on scanner anymore. But also, I haven't had any problem getting a planet or a moon on the 5 degree angle, with alt or with selecting the ship, either works fine.

easy fix: zoom out far enough so that your ship fits inside the white square. Now the difference is so small it doesnt matter :)

The center-of-ship axis is definitely screwed with premium graphics (and only with premium graphics), and it's been so since premium graphics was released.
Thy the following: Select your ship (or press ALT) while in a pod. Warning: Don't do it if you tend to get sea sick ...
Yes, zooming out always helps. I've got used to it after a long time. It still sucks.
What also works is using the solar system map for scanning whenever it is possible and practical ... get used to using the solar system map, and you will have less trouble.
But even if you can handle it, DON'T get quiet about it! Tolerating bugs because you can work around them will only encourage CCP to break more things and not fix them.
Even if they have to use different center-of-ship axes (and I doubt this is necessary - it's a bug, nothing more or less), then premium graphics should work better by default. The crappy graphics are only for people with five year old PCs who refuse to upgrade.

Ah thanks for the tips, I'm sure they'll help, but it is quite annoying anyways, and catching ships using the directional scan is hard enough as it is :) _______________________________________________ "If you want to taste the ground, feel free to attack." - Kenshin Himura -CDS Now Taking Contracts-

If you haven't yet, try zooming in on a pod in premium and watch the little square bounce around all over the place. There is definitely something weird going on there and it's amusing to say the least. But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started.
