In a drug induced frenzy to update the miner's guide pre winter patch (so I have less work to do when the big industrial patch hits) I finally realized I would need to write a second, possibly a third guide. The Mining Guide as it stands now hasa bout 64 pages if memory serves, and I am now onto 73 for the new version. How long will it take before I hit the 100 mark?
In any case I was wondering, from a community standpoint, which area of the industrial side of EVE would merit another "Complete Guide"? I am interested in your opinions. Logistics keeping, Invention, Market PvP, Production, Trading, Research, Running a business?
It would be difficult to write a "general guide to industry" as I tend to go too much in details. The Miner's Guide started with a forum thread with a dozen posts before reaching the current stage.
So I am interested in hearing what are of EVE you find would merit an in-depth guide to the community in general? At the moment I am thinking Production and Invention.

I would speculate that Invention from those mentioned above would be one of the more useful ones. It is somewhat similar to mining in that sense, that relatively fresh player's would be able to jump on it while area itself is complex enough to discourage that for fresh players (say approx 3 months old or so) and timeframe to reach 'uber' level in it is similar to mining also (around 6 - 9 months).

I think an in-depth guide to the Rorqual and how to compress etc would be a great edition. Questions on the Rorqual appear a lot in here. --

I initially had issues staying on top of logistics - getting all fuels and production materials purchased and to the correct location efficiently. I'm sure I've still got plenty to learn but even the stuff I've worked out myself would no doubt be of great use to a new player.

Thanks for the great mining guide. Id second the others that invention would probably do for a good guide. There are a lot of related concepts as well, research, moon materials, t2 components, that would be included.
Also, there are a couple of good POS guides out there, but nothing with enough detail to understand. Might make a good volume. Halada's Guide to POS.

We have POS guides that are detailed now, why create more of the same when there are areas not/badly covered atm. --

I want to take advantage of this opportunity to deeply thank you for your marvellous guide. It has been my lifesaver in these 2 months I'm making my mining career :)
I am very curious about the Trading issues, but I think Production can be a field of more widely interest for many people. After Refining, it's the logical step to follow...

I think that a logistics or Running a business would make interesting and useful guides.
I agree that we currently have some good POS guides already. The one I liked was a PDF, and I think it had a moon or a POS on the first page...I've forgotten the name of it. -------- Billy Jean is not my lover |

Your guides have always helped me out from the moment that I decided to get more into mining and I thank you for them. But here isn't much info on Gas Mining.
I'm sure this is because it's not something that is done by everyone, I only do it in level 4 mining missions, there is a little more info that you could add.
The Alchemist ZA-2 implant that reduces harvest time by 5% lowering cycle times from 30 second to 28.x (I'd have to get the exact time again). It is reduced much further when using Mining Foreman Link bonus to 23.x seconds with the implant and about 25.x seconds without the implant. I'll have to try to get a mission this weekend to get the exact times for you.
I use a 3 man team in Hurricanes to do the mission now. In the past I have use an Armageddon with a cargo I expander to solo the mission. And then added 2 Brutix's to help and then replaced a Brutix with an Eos. But now I have settled withe Hurricanes and they are just fine.
Hi Slots: 5x Gas Harvesters 2x Salvagers Tractor Beam
For the Booster, the salvagers and tractor beam are replaced with the Mining Foreman Link - Laser Optimization mod
Med Slots: Y-S8 Hydrocarbon I AB Med C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I T2 Large Shield Exetnder and Cap Recharger
Low Slots: T2 Damage Control 5x T2 Cargohold Expanders
This gives 1600 m3 of Cargo space. The DCII can be swapped for another cargo expander if needed. The 3 of them can hold the entire mission cloud with no problem.

One area I am not clear on is Tech2 production. Before I joined Lone Star I manufactured/traded in Empire and looked into tech2 production, but couldn't figure out how to make money doing it. In my experience it is by far the most complex area of the game and needs a comprehensive and well-written guide.
I don't know if you want to share your secrets, but I am amazed at how you and the rest of the leadership manage the logistics 0.0 life.

The problem with making guides on trade or how to make ISK is that no one wants to tell you how they make ISK. Cos if they did then their own method would no longer make ISK because everyone would be doing it.
So IMO there will never be a trade this or trade that guide to making ISK, it just wouldn't be worth typing up. --

Edited by: Xanil on 04/10/2008 02:52:16 Hello Sir. I have read your mining guide with enthusiasm and keep on looking at it on daily basis. Magus opus I must say. However, what I came to look in this forum today was a sort of fitting guide for mining ships :D This because, although you have recommended the best ships (and skills to get those) I have decided to make my character a mission runner/pvp'er as well. Maybe later get into science but not now. Therefore I would need information what ships do you recommend if I have to fly an Amarr or Gallante cruiser for instance.

Halada, here are those Gas Harvesting cycle times.
30.00 sec - Normal 28.50 sec - Alchemist ZA-2 Implant w/5% Reduction in cycle time
With Mining Director Bonus and Laser Optimization Mod: 23.70 sec - No Implant 22.52 sec - Alchemist ZA-2 Implant
My skills right now are Director 5 and Warfare Link Spec 4. I'll have level 5 in 2 days. I'm using the Mining Foreman Mindlink Implant too of course. |

A guide on how to improve the logistic will help me a lot :) (fueling pos, loading and emptying silo for reaction chain, supplying mineral for a T1/T2 manufacturing chain etc)
For invention, I found some good guide on internet. Understanding how it works is not really hard. Finding the good item to invent is THE question you have to answer, to make profit with invention. For this you have to make spreadsheets or use some tools (invention profti calculator is very good)

Halada... thanks so much for your time and dedication to your mining guide. By following it for more than 1-1/2 years I now have 2 hulksters running in god mode with a commandship pilot and Iteron V hauler for good measure. You weren't kidding when you said it would take time; but you were also not kidding when you said it would be worth it.
Thanks so much...
BTW... I vote for the invention guide. My mins give me good income from t-1 ship production and I would like to take it to the next step. My main is only 37 days away from using 4 lvl 4 agents.

As with the rest. I loved you mining guide and it helped me a lot getting started in 0.0 mining with a new indy alt.
I would love to see a guide on exploration of all types but don't wanna put too much burden on you since ccp is kinda close lipped on a lot of the statistical side of things an their is a lot of randomness to it.
