Hi everyone,
I live in nosec, I pve because i'm building up my assets/skills for my other char that will eventually pvp . I know it is inevitable that, on occasion, i will lose ships to reds that catch me mining/ratting in belts.
This takes me on to what just happened to me recently, i was mining in my Hulk, with my other char in a domi killing the rats that spawned. Warping to dock at the station any time a red showed up in local, because as everyone knows, reds (anyone for that matter) show in local before they can scan for you and warp to your location. However on this occasion i didn't get caught out by not paying attention(i get distracted by tv sometimes ), i got caught out becaused the red warped on top of me before he appeared in local , thus giving me chance at all of warping back to the station.
There was no lag present, only 10 players in local at the time, and the previous red 10-15 mins earlier appeared in local as normal. so something just seemed strange about this, after talking to corp mates another has also have this happen. So anyone out there know if there is a problem with local? any info given is much appreciated

He probably logged off in your belt, logged back in, you got unlucky.

My prediction is they were in that belt and had signed out. You were busy mining away and they sign back in. By the time you would probably spot them in local they would be pretty much warped on top of your hulk.
That's the most likely situation imo

Long ago there was an exploit that allowed you to close local channel, allowing you to be undetectable. It is possible the bug that enabled the exploit has resurfaced, I'll try it in a minute to see if it works.
EDIT: Nope, whatever it is, it's not the same thing.

In my opinion you deserved to loose that hulk AND the domnix and i hope you loose many more.

Why do you watch local for reds? Looks to me like watching locals for blues and especially greens is much better idea, to GTFO when another corp mate of yours enters system

Seeing reds in local and warp to zero to stations and insta dock is pretty lame.
I would pay you isk so you could get back to highsec because what good is it for that you abuse gamemechanics to stay safe and waste my time but than again I would need to do that to any other carebear out in low sec as well... to stay fair...
Honestly it is a shame that we players NEED to use tactics like logging off in a belt, how much more awesome would this game be if we both could fight a real fight instead of this god damn METAGMING.

lol, thanks for the reply Grim, this whiole post was a j/k though, thought that would be obvious from my corp m8's replies(and accidental new posts that should be replies). I did lose the ships and the problem with local did cause it, but i'm not bothered about the ship losses. This post was more a dare from my corp mates because they knew some1 like you would flame me, that's why they flamed me with their replies. I'm just surprised the flame didn't come sooner tbh.
I do agree with you though, 1 group of gamers shouldn't be forced in to meta gaming just because another group does it. I think it's a catch 22 situation though, metagaming has happened for over 5 yrs in eve now and i'm sure it will never stop. People will always look to manufacture advantages for themselves but also complain when someone else uses an advantage to counter it.

If this thread is a setup I'm really disapointed, we get so many setups these days, so many disapointing fake threads. It would be nice to get something real to get our teeth into.
Though I suppose a real situation with someone coming on the forum to draw attention to their own mistakes isn't really going to be so commonplace. :(

It was a semi-setup, the situation did happen, i even petitioned it (sry). the setup was my corp knew i was gonna get flamed so they thought they might aswell get in 1st, it then became epic because of the accidental new thread.
Edit: Oh noes, they deleted the accidental one!!!! it was sooooooo funny.
