Any thoughts on raiding large mining ops? Has anyone else tried this? We are trying to develop a raiding party of carriers and a JF to raid systems used mainly for mining.
The idea is to get in fast, scoop up as much as you can, make things go boom and jump out.
Any thoughts or experience would be helpful before we waste our time. |

Aye, but here's the catch: we want to jump into the hinterlands of 0.0 sov and screw with them. Thus the entirely jump capable gang. Big investment...might not be worth it, but we just want to see some smug secure 0.0 entity go: WTF! (hehehe) |

Any mining gang that doesn't dock/POS up at the first sign of a neutral or hostile in the region wide intel chanel deserve what they get.
You could probably pull this off using a covert cyno and a gang of recons but IMO you'd be better off with logonski and a conventional roaming nanogang. The amount of ore you can steal (btw, you would need a rorq, not JF unless you've got a POS or docking rights in system) will not justify the potential cap loss, IMO. The only reason to do this is for lulz.

AARRRGHH! That would have sucked!! Too bad. I could have gotten all bitcy and whined, "why didn't anyone tell me"
Now I have to find some new ridiculous plan...or we could just sit around gate camping and looking for solos like every other day. |

You could allways join a large 0.0 alliance based in deep 0.0. Have your folks provide "security" for an alliance op and then **** them over. A dictor or two and plenty of DPS and they are ready to be salvaged.
I don't like this idea, but then again, each to their own I say. Heard of a similar thing happen once and it sure was effective. |

aye, and it has happened in reverse too. Large 0.0 alliance hires some corp to move out and work for them...get them to move their stuff and then feed off them. Venus fly-trap. |

Edited by: Sin Fae on 30/09/2008 17:36:09 Ore/resource thievery in null vs empire are two completely different things.
One thing in common, however, is you need to define what is your goal, ganking or ore-taking?
I call that the approach, and it sounds like in your OP you are trying to do both which in most instances, leads to catastrophic (end expensive) failure bot in empire and 0.0.
If it is ganking, (the harder of the two and imo less profitable) there are plenty of guides, etc to ganking and how to kill things. Usually the hard part is finding your "soft target".
If it is ore/resource stealing - You may want to consider
1. Resource gathering ships 2. Taking a look at the logistics of getting the bulk loot from the aquisition site to somewhere where you can distribute and sell/use it.
With those two things in mind, you build your "strike" package around that.
There is your 100m isk tip for the day. . .

IMHO just do it and brag about it when it worked. (and if you fail, make sure you do it right, so we all have a good laugh)
However, posting your idea here will result in one of two possibilities:
1. Someone else will steal the idea and successfully pull it off first
2. Lots of smartasses will tell you how much your plan fails.
3. Both
Damn, why do I always come up with three possibilities when I start my post with "there are two possibilities"?

I'm pretty sure when anybody sees a mining op in low/null sec, they don't want the ore, they want the killmails.
I'd be pretty dumbfounded if you guys stole all the cans and left everything alive though
