Edited by: HostageTaker on 21/06/2004 23:28:37 Hey people, got something special for all the Megathron pilots out there. A few months back CCP finally answered the cries of many people and retextured the Mega and it was good... but I always thought that it still needed a lil more lovin' So I decided to build on a already pretty sweet texture.
My version has a more weathered look to it after countless months of combat and whatnot :) It has a jovian atmosphere to it in a way... anyways tell me what you people think, I may put a zip together for the masses if people are interested in using it...
Screenshot 1 Screenshot 2 Screenshot 3 Screenshot 4 Screenshot 5 Screenshot 6 Screenshot 7
*Edit
I have another remastered ship to preview; the Amarr Bestower. I took the original texture and did a slight recolour to closely match the Apoc shade cause I was sick of the yellow school bus look :P I've also cleaned up the alpha channel (the shinny parts of Bestower) to look more crisp and really bring out the GOLD shine to it. The panels have also been edited so they line up right to the edges, the original texture was fading or not coloured in completely... (I'm picky about textures )
Imp Bestower 1 Imp Bestower 2
PS - The gold alphas come out really good in certain solar systems
Both should be available soon through Eve Extra so keep checking the site.

Nice job - perhaps the mottled effect could do with being a little more pronounced.
How does one go about skinning ships in Eve?
I downloaded the appropriate plugin for Photoshop but I then lost my way

The DDS plugin is the first step, Josh. Then you have to extract from the .stuff files, which I assume you know how to do.
EVE uses mipmaps, which means it can scale down the pre-fabricated sized textures at will. They will appear as increasingly smaller images in your file. The largest one is the only one you have to bother with, unless you are re-colouring the image, in which case you just extend the effect over the whole thing.
If you are drastically changing the look of the texture (windows, etc), especially things with glowmaps and different specularity maps, you have to find and change those maps as well.

It's a pity our ships don't actually show battle damage. One of the coolest scenes from Star Trek III was when the Enterprise is docking, and all the starfleet personnel in the station are standing with mouths agape at the phaser scoring and torpedo damage (read: big frickin holes). Always thought it'd be wild if I come back from NPC hunting and whatnot that people can see what I've been through.

heh that would be cool.
I wish someone would do a re-texture of the thorax, i dont like all the green.. it needs to be darker or greyish.. not as dark as the rat one. i could do it myself but im a little lazy to learn haha -------------------------------------------- I've had the same Gurista Imputor on my tail for the past 16 systems..

When I finish a nice extended fleet battle, and my ship has all of 23% structure left, there are ton's of smoke and flames pouring from the back. Looks pretty cool to me. Don't think other can see that though.
I think it would add to client lag though if your ship had to change textures during combat.

If my new Photoshop CS box ever comes, I'll go around and make a pwetty Thorax texture, wouldn't mind having something new and shiny to lookat myself

This one looks darker, more used. The normal MEga seems lightish and i dont remember the lines being that detailed.
Im gonna try and replace my thorax skin with the Serpentis Thorax skin, that one is AWESOME. ---------------------------

HostageTaker, that skin is absolutely awesome, I'd love to have it. I can't pilot a Mega, but if this skill was available I'd even get the skills for it. Could you put a zip together please? Beside that, you should give this to CCP as a present, hopefuly they replace the old Mega skin with this one, sexy.

Note that you should NEVER change the .stuff files, nor do you need to.
Just figure out the virtual directory tree inside the .stuff file, and make the real path. The game will use the "real" path in preference to the virtual one in the stuff files. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

Right, ok, I downloaded the Plug-In, and I've found my way to the planet textures which I can now edit freely. I've also found the resTextures.stuff file, along with the rest of the .stuff files. But, how am I supposed to extract the files from them so I can edit the ships and stuff? Any help?

1) Figure out the virtual path inside the .stuff - for instance, res\Texture\Gallente. 2) Create those dirs in your EVE folder - for instance, D:\Games\EVE\res\Texture\Gallente. 3) Name the file the same as in the .stuff - for instance, g_c4.dds. 4) Start EVE / undock/dock/jump and the model+texture should reload.
