After staring at my Rokh for some hours an idea came to mind from the shape of it. This ship and each faction's equivillant would be perfect for a large spinal mounted seige gun. A diffrient type for each faction. A massive Railgun for the Caldari and appropriate weapons for the others.
These Tech 2 Batleships would act in support of Dreadnoughts in bombardment of stations and such but would not have Jumpdrives. Any ship carrying this huge weapon would have to 'align to' target to fire. Any addititional high slots should be geared for point defense and thus I reccomend a bonus to fast tracking turrets. (Perhaps medium turrets?)
Targeting range and effective weapons ranges would be extreme nearly on par with Dreadnoughts.
For Requirements I recomend
-Advance Spaceship command Level 3-4 --Spaceship command Level V
-*Faction* Battleship Level 5
My only worry in this is that there may be difficulty programming the fixed forward firing nature of these weapons for Eve, which normally uses turreted systems geared for 360 degree engagement. |

Seems like a neat idea to me. i thought of something similar in fact, although instead of a battleship hull, a battlecruiser. something akin to the big brother of a stealth bomber, a Siege bomber if you will. fitting citadel torpedos and such.

Anyone else think of Sajuuk from Home World when they read this? I like the idea.

I was thinking more along the line of the M.A.C. railguns in the Halo Novels or the HW ion cannon Frigate but yeah you get the idea. The real damage dealer is meant to be the big gun, but like HW proves having just that single weapon can be risky.
I figure ships should be able to repel Frigates and such on their own without help otherwise it's too much of a drain for a fleet to protect them. |

That would be cool
it could take up 4 high slots and you could actually use the capital Railgun model so nothing extra needs to be designed, Or you could do an awsome custom modification, make it a T2 ship with 4 masive forward facing railgun Turrets (I dont think they will ever do fixed guns) mounted over the area that the guns are mounted now.
I love railguns and always lament that they dont look as cool as they should, especially when mounted to the Rokh hull.

This is an idea I have suggested many a time, however rather than (yet another) ship designed for POS sieges, I've always envisioned it as an anti-capital ship (something which I think the game rather much needs at the moment), using a single X-L weapon(or larger?) fixed into a forward firing position (oh.... maybe a doomsday weapon :D)

I've always liked the idea, and it wouldn't be hard to implement *gets assaulted by programmers*
Instead of tracking formulas, use heading and target location. Data is immediately available to accessors.
Personally I find the current relationship between larger guns and tracking very lacking in terms of color. Bigger firepower means bigger turrets means bigger PG requirements. Sacrificing tracking for firepower isn't an available option for ships in Eve. It's a good method of balancing turrets of higher caliber, so why not give a hull a method of trading off tracking capability for firepower?
There are easily situations where Eve would be a lot cooler with specialized damage dealers to complement the specialized tacklers. BS's are kinda over-generalized. Especially snipers.
And you're absolutely right about the shape. All Tier 3 BS's look like they were intended to become giant spinal mount artillery platforms. I don't see what the problem is with getting them. They won't start swatting BS's and certainly won't be solo pawn mobiles.
You can sacrifice tank and firepower for PvP goodness and speed, but you can't sacrifice versatile firepower and PvP goodness or speed to become a specialized damage dealer for your tier in any hull in the game. You'll do okay numbers...for your tier, but never more.
Tracking disadvantage (especially with the whole point-ship-shoot-target thing) + Damage advantage should be an available specialization. ---------------------------------------

its kind of funny because you can equip a citadel launcher on the amarr battleships.
But you want to make it more interesting.
I've posted the idea of a big brother to the stealth bomber. Big alpha little dps. The problem is that you can warp in on someone with a friend and this big alpha is likely to pop it right then and there. Kind of out of balance.
I think a penalty on the ship to increase the signature radius to something rather large but not enough to mess with targets of pos attacks or capitals. Making it essentially harder to kill if targeting anything subcapital without a painter. Meaning you need to bring more friends. Thusly balance is held. ------------------------ "There was this bright flash of light - and now this egg shaped thing is on my screen - did I level up?" |
