I was just thinking, I believe (rightly or wrongly) the following things:
1) Golem is the best mission and looting ship overall, in that it is the only ship that is effective against all npc rats - possibly pimped CNR if you're not looting. 2) Paladin/Amarr BS are the best ships for missioning against Sansha, but can suck against the others - and pimped nightmare.
So Gallente and Minimatar ships never excell against any rats, by this I mean that one of the above mentioned ships are better - I'M NOT SAYING YOU CAN'T EFFECTIVELY MISSION RUN IN GALLENTE or MINMATAR, just not as effeicnetly as the others.
Why not suit each race to fight against an npc faction (not just best suited to tanking a particular npc faction).
Thus for us mission runners, who lack the consitent time to really enter into meaing ful pvp, a real drive into other ships.
I currently run a Paladin for Sansha missions, and a Golem for all other missions, if I choose any other ship, no matter what the npcs I face, i will complete missions less efficently.
I'd love to have a real reason to climb into mimatar and gallente bs's to do level 4s, but for my limted gaming time, not at the expense of earning the isk I could get from my Paladin and Golem.

I do my lvl4's in a T2 fitted Raven. It's a good ship, good enough for every lvl4 I done (doing missions for minmatar agents, mostly against Amarr, Angel cartel and rogue drones). Tried to do them in a Hyperion but got back into a Raven after a couple of days. Many players do their missions in a Dominix, personaly I haven't tried that yet but I'm planning to. I hear it's a very good ship for doing missions if you have good drone skills.

The Dominix is an excellent ship. In my opinion, based on having flown a pimped CNR and a T2 fitted Dominix for a year now, the Dominix is just as good. ------------

I've tried the dominix, and I have tech II heavies and sentries and used sentry drone damage mods, and still not a patch on the Golem or Paladin against any of the npcs.

I'd honestly say that the "best" ship depends on your play style. Sometimes (or most times?) the efficient ships are downright boring. Depending on the job at hand I fly any of the 3 Minmatar Battleships, personal choice. If I sat down a crunched the numbers I probably would be behind CNRs and such, but I'm pretty efficient with my ships...and have fun doing it. I mean what's the point of squeezing out a few extra isk/hr if you are bored to tears?
Now I don't afk mission so that could change things, but from what I've read "serious" missioners are either flying Caldari or Gallente...with Amarr winning hands downs for efficiency on anything weak to Thermal/EM. That's just from what I've read.

I use nightmare(like the look over paladin) for blood raider/sansha, golem for merc/angel, and krono for guristas/eom missions. Kronos is very effective against guristas/serp. Golem/cnr got problem with defenders but Kronos don't. Since guristas always stay far out of 50km+ range, use torp is a waste of time. I know with rigs/implants/t2 torps you can get beyond 50km range but there is no point doing so. Kronos can pop 4 800k+ guristas ships before needing a reload. Compare to cruise golem/CNR, kronos can finish missions just as fast if not faster.
If you want to find one ship that could do all the missions, then that have to be golem though. I use it when I feel lazy, turn on booster, start to fire off missiles. It can be rather boring.

It's difficult to correctly assert that one mission running ship is best overall, I think. I personally haven't flown and Minmatar or Amarr missioning ships, though I hear they have their strengths in various situations. Between the Gallente and Caldari ships I fly, the Raven and Dominix seem pretty comparable; with the Dominix having an edge in some situations, and the Raven having an edge in others.
Where the comparisons start to lean in favor of Caldari is when you look at the faction and marauder variants of the Raven. Both the Navy Issue Raven and Golem are superior to the Raven for missioning, but only (arguably) situationally better than one another. They both substantially exceed the Raven in missioning ability, and generally exceed the Dominix as result.
Unfortunately (from the point of view of missioning), the faction and marauder variants of battleships for the Gallente were based off the Megathron. Neither, in my opinion, is a particularly good missioning ship because of their reliance on hybrid turrets. I'm sure someone will readily disagree with me on this point though.
I do still think the Dominix is the unqualified best "boxed missioning-alt ship" available, however.

Depends on how you like to run missions.
For a relaxing experience with no worry about RL interruptions or disconnects I'd say that a NH is best. For fastest Isk/hour it has to be Golem or CNR. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Afaik gallente are the top dogs when it comes to killing gurista and serpentis with their sentry/blasterboats.
At least thats the impression I had from a Kronos pilot.
Golem is the best allround one though.
While other factions are kinda dependant on what they are fighting against.

This is all that matters for most pilots. What is best for what you're doing is what you should train for. I'm an all-rounder so I will stick to missiles. I move around often just for a change of pace / scenery. I work for multiple agents of all the empire factions and so I'm frequently shooting at all different kinds of rats. That's what is fun for me.
If I really just wanted the ISK I'd train up lasers, get a Nightmare and move to Amarr space, and stay there. But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started.

I used the Raven for missions for a long time. It's very effective. Switch a few T2 for faction (CN Shield Booster, CN Shield Boost Amplifier) and it will run all Lvl 4 missions pretty easily. A CNR just makes it a bit faster and easier, unless you count the risk of high sec gankers.
With sufficient drone skills, I prefer the dominix. If you can use both T2 sentries and T2 Heavy drones, the dominix is a formidibable mission runner. It's cheap and can clear a room while afk.
Marauders are useful if you want to do everything with one ship, but I find that I am faster using a Dominix and an alt for salvage/looting than trying to use one ship for both.
Additionally, on tough missions, I put my alt in a Guardian, send the Dominix in to get full aggro and then use the logistics ship until sufficient hostiles have been cleared.
And timing missile volleys sucks. I definitely prefer guns + drones over missiles any day.

I got my Kronos a week ago; those missions where the bonus completion time is six hours, now take me between 30 and 40 minutes on average - including loot/salvage time.
Plus, it's just funny watching frigs orbiting at 5km, get blown up by a single shot from a 30km-optimal-range weapon.
Plus it looks sexier than any Caldari ship ever will. |
