Some RnD agents have fields of research that have multipliers of RPs per day applied to them, typically the starship engineering skills. So that field with that agent can yeild for instance 300% of RPs per day above normal amounts. Great stuff, very useful. Thanks.
To an earlier (much earlier!) poster, in case you're still wondering, the caret symobol, "^" means "to the power of", ie ^2 is squared, ^3 is cubed etc.

Edited by: Leyanna on 27/12/2005 02:55:54 Sorry for the noobie reply... but I am still rather at a loss with how this all works.
I've run agent missions before that require delivery of a product from A to B or killing of a specific NPC in some system... but not an R&D agent.
Correct me if I am wrong but this is how I understand R&D agents:
1) I must find the agent I wish to train with as per the lists kicking about.
2) After I find my desired agent, I must be training the skill that the agent is dealing with (for example, starship engineering).
ex. Lai Dai Size: Large Implant: Intelligence Highest R&D: lvl. 4 Main Research: Caldari Starship Engineering, Graviton Physics & Rocket Science
3) Every day, I am given a mission that may potentially award me additional research points, which function as my "lottery" ticket when a BPO is due to be released.
4) Should I be the lucky one, a shiny tech two BPO will be sent to me :)
Right?

That's it buddy, you got it, But remember, When you do the mission you also get more points.
So make sure you do them everyday, and don't cancel them if they look to tricky, "get them done". That's the best thing i can say.
Also even if, after a few days he has not asked you for a mission go see him, and start convo it oftern wakes him up and he will give you one to keep you busy. I've been kept very busy latey ive got 5, and 2 are lvl 4's and they send you on some right ones , im after the ships you see so i have to do as many as i can, thats the secret the more you do the better your chances are.
Good luck and all the best if you need anything convo me ingame i will do my upmost to help.

Hi all,
This is not me gloating just offering some advise and maybe a little inspiration..
I've just recently recieved a tech II cruise missiles BPO off a l2 q-15 agent.. I've gone all out on getting the best chances as I see fit without putting all my time into something which is still just a lottery.. Here is what I've done.
Firstly to maximise your RP's have lvl 5 in the science skill your researching and lvl 5 in negotiations social skill. Then its totally up to getting your agent and starting the research.
Courier missions are by far the fastest way to get your standings up. Basically get an inty or frigate to do 90% of all lvl 2 and say 60% of all lvl 3 missions, the rest are cruisers and indy's. Get your connections and social skills' up so that your getting maximum value of your time doing these missions. I also run 2 accounts and so tend to run 2 agents in parallel for the one character using escrow missions to collect and finish the missions. This method has been explained by another player elsewhere.
It takes me roughly 4-6 weeks with the social skills already trained to go from low lvl 2 agents through to the highest lvl 4 agents in my chosen faction. I've also got another couple of low level agents with other alts on the same accounts giving me access to these lower level agents. Incase of what just happened the other week and I collected a Tech II BPO. So far its L2 R&D agents(5) 1 - 0 L4 R&D agents(5) even though they have far more RP's and earn more per day than the L2's.
I have never done a R&D agent mission and never will. This is a lottery and should not be something you base your life in EVE around nor should you expect to get anything in return for it, in the form of a BPO anyway. The great thing about doing these types of missions to build standings is that when your finished and you have the highest L4 R&D agent your faction standings will allow you to step right into lvl 3 kill missions for another corp within that faction. There is a massive amount of luck involved and aside from starship where you really do need a large amount of RP's. You can get Tech II BPO's of the smaller 1-5bil isk Tech II BPO's which are easier to produce and still offer good returns on isk investment.
Good luck, have fun, expect nothing. :)

ps. this topic has good information here for the new researchers in EVE.

I may be missing something, but I've been running a research agent for about 3 days now, and haven't heard anything from him. By the sounds of it, I should be receiving eve-mails about missions (and the missions themselves, I guess!).
Is this happening to everyone, or is it some freak bug?

Just started a couple of R&D agents on projects, my first foray into research, about three days ago and haven't heard a peep from them either guys - be it mission offers or evemails. Nice to see I'm not the only one.

Me neither. R&D for a few days and no emails about missions. Is this something that clears up after a week or so, or do I need to petition this?

Ok if you want to do the missions, talk to the RnD guy after (or a day after)you start a project, he will then send an evemail to say "i have a job for you".
Im sure you have to wait a day then talk to him, the key is u gotta talk to him again to start getting the mails.

I am not sure if that it is regarding on the mails u get from the R&D agents for doing missions. Its something i have noticed doing my R&D agent research and i would like to share it with you people. When u start a research for an agent its clearly that every 20 hours exactly he wants you to do a mission. If you jast started a research and u havent heard from that agent (no mail at all) u have to go and talk to him. This is what i did and at the first days i had to visit him to give me a mission. The next week i noticed the mails arived everyday in my mailbox from him exactly every 20h so i guess in the few first days after you started a research with an R&D agent, you have to go to talk to the agent for him to give you the missions and after the first week the mails will start coming to your mailbox every 20h.

To find out use the list of multipliers in this sticky. In game they show up after you have the agent, like my Caldari Starship agents it says : Research Field Bonus 3 x RP/day |

Hey I was wondering if you could help me out, I got this mail off my agent today ;
2006.04.23 20:41 Our research has been fruitful, but I've encountered a snag and our research has been halted. Please contact me as soon as possible.
But the only option available to me when I go to visit this agent is "I want to take my research somewhere else" or something similar, but if I do stop this and lose all my points then what, I really don't get this, any help would be great plz.

you did not win a BPO, i'll tell you that much. That is just the mission mail you get on a daily basis. When you talk to the agent they'll eventually send you off to a mission.
Unless the mail contains more information about what was successfully researched, then it's just a useless/mindless mission run. ------------------

Edited by: Sumayyah on 25/04/2006 18:35:48 I have seen in a couple places that have the negotiation skill help get more RP per day. Can someone explain how this works or is factored into the formula because the skill states it gives a 5% additional pay. I would think that would just apply to isk rewards and bonuses. So can people comferm that they are getting more RP because of this skill?
Edited by: Sumayyah on 25/04/2006 18:35:00 I Found the answer on a anouther post.. The new search tool is assume.
Anyway for those interesed from what I can tell in the other post is that by traing the negotiation skill your are actaully increasing your effective quality with the agent(I would assume 5% per lvl) and this than works in the the formular (EQ) to provide you with more RP a day.
Thanks

Edited by: Fitzmaurice on 08/05/2006 05:01:30 Edited by: Fitzmaurice on 08/05/2006 05:01:05 this may be a stupid n00b question, but does it ever happen that you win a bpo lottery but do not have enough rps to cash that lottery ticket? for example, is it possible for the winning bpo to cost 1000 rps, but you only have 500? what do you do then (apart from hang yourself)?

Good thread necro addition.
Race doesn't matter with what agents you can use. Just do missions for the best agent that you can in a give corp/faction. That will allow you to work your way up. Courier missions are fast and easy, so maybe that's the best way.
To Fitz: the offers come based on whether or not you won. You win based on having one of your "lottery tickets" drawn at random. Your "lottery ticket" is based on the number of research points that you have with your agent. There is no way to win, but not have enough points. The points affect your chances of winning, but if you win, you win-whether you have 1 RP or 10 million.
