Bad enough with incarna I got booted due to system requirements. Fanfest speakers are showing these great graphics previews & asking the crowd if they want these things & of course they applaud but am I going to have to get a new mother @#$%^!!! computer every year to keep up with the speed up in video card requirements or will my DirectX 10 be good enough for another 2 years?

Dx10 will be fine for years to come. Heck, Dx9 is still usable with 99% of games. |

I'd say this. In almost every DX11-capable game I have ever played, there's the option to play it in DX9 mode. |

As i said. I hope we're not forced so we can stay on a little older hardware and Windows XP.
So please make DX 11 optional not forced.

I hope so but I am worried & don't want to get booted from Eve twice within a year for system requirement reasons. Right now this is the current requiement GÇóDrivers: DirectX-« 9.0c (included) and latest video drivers the Tesslation previews look nice but I know my PC won't be able to support a better vid card that I have right now that uses DirectX 10 card |

To put your worries in perspective, Skyrim was built on DX9 technology.
I doubt very much if DX9 is going to be going completely away for a good few years yet. CCP may well add in DX10+ eyecandy, and I have little doubt in future, ie, the next 3 or 4 years, that shader model 4 will become a minimum requirement (over the current sm3), but honestly, the only things I know of that still run on shader 2 are some laptops that were crap when they were NEW (5 years ago), and PC's that I wouldn't use to wedge a door open with. |

You are never FORCED into anything.
Everytime CCP improves graphics you have these idiots that have to complain and ***** about how their decade old rig can't play the game anymore. Upgrade once in a while and it won't be an issue. That is the answer.

DX11 API (unlike the much worse DX10) actually supports several hardware feature sets.
You can do a DX11 API game that runs on DX9, DX10 and DX11 video cards - with obviously the shiny tessellation features turning off if the hardware doesn't support it. So pretty much any card that runs EVE today will still run EVE - just with some shiny feature buttons grayed out on low end hardware. In fact, WoW today runs on DX11 API with DX9 video card feature effects.
However, DX11 API is not available on XP, so any DX11 version of the game client wouldn't run on XP (only Vista/Win7/Win8). It doesn't mean CCP would have to do it like that - Blizzard actually showed how to do it regardless, retaining DX9 API compatibility for XP users.
CCP just have to be non-stupid with the implementation. So, if done right... even with DX11, everything would still run on the hardware and OS you have now running EVE. Just that some new shiny would require you to have DX11 video card (ie. card that isn't more than 2 years old now, 3-4 years old whenever this would be ready).
You would also probably see performance improvement - in WoW DX9/DX11 switch can improve the framerate up to 30%. Visually nothing changes (WoW doesn't have DX11 specific effects) but just by using the better DX11 API, the game runs smoother.
TLDR: Don't worry. DX11 was done a lot smarter than the crappy DX10. It offers better performance and more shiny effects without any backward compatibility issues (if done competently) |

how do you have a PC recently purchased that doesnt support dx11?
dx11 things are optional, but honestly time to step up guys dx11 has been out for like forever now CCP's been slow in adopting to give people time i mean come on without searching you can get a dx11 card
http://amzn.to/GY0PkV 69$ for dx11, i mean its not great but dx11 is not a reason to complain, especially when its optional lol |

Not to sound offensive but in my country OP.
Cheap is expensive in the end...
so please..spend more on a good expensive machine that will last you for atleast 5 to 7 years...
with PCs it is like, you spend 400 for 1 year and then get outdated and unable to play most/if anything due to already deteriorated CPU/Motherboard/GPU. and having to spend the next year another 400 on another machine... have the same happen...having to spend another 400 the year after that...
so yeah beter to spend 1500 for a real good machine, as in the end you'll be cheaper out after 2 or 3 years, as long as you upgrade.

Direct3D 9 is an obsolete API designed for an obsolete operating system. Its over nine years old at this point and does things in a way that is very different from how modern video hardware actually operates. From a user's point of view this is transparent, but for a developer that works with graphics APIs, Direct3D 10/11 are a joy to work with and make it a lot easier to employ all that fancy silicone we spend hundreds of dollars on. Not to mention the separation of rendering hardware from display hardware that came with DXGI... blah, blah, 'insert more nerd stuff here'
Its time for developers and players to cut the cord and move on. The only reason Direct3D 9 |

Has it at all occurred to all of you that tell OP to go upgrade, that not all can afford upgrades every half to whole year ?
Some people in this world have families to provide for and cant just go use cash on new hardware. My computer is 3 years now and I cannot afford new one any time soon. |
