Im sure this have been asked about 100 times... just after 7 days of reading various necroed topics and sites couldnt find complete answer...
I own 3 accounts and im finding setup for efficient level 4 mission speed running... my main is pure industrial/miner/inventor/plex finder/salvage char
With my first alt im going to use Dominix as pure tank/drone platform/remote repper for my main dps BS... mainly to take all agro, release drones/activate reppers and than alt-tab to my dps ship to mop up
Now there is my main question... which boat to use as pure dps?
First i was going to train for maelstrom but than i got biased towards CNR with torpedoes/painter setup...
Anyone has similar expiriences that are worth sharing?
Tnx in advance for quick answers...

Maelstrom? Ew. You do know that minmatar are like the anti-DPS right?
I'd recommend an Abaddon, (navy) Apoc, or CNR. Golem, Paladin, or Nightmare looking at long time goals. You either have:
A) Amarr, Large DPS, but only EM/thermal. Does very very well against about half the mission opponents, the other half they are okay at, simply because they have excessive DPS. Navy ammo is wtfcheap and a very good choice for missions.
B) The (navy) Raven. Good DPS of all types, inexhaustive range with cruise. Easier to skill for missions (Cruise missiles 5 vs small, medium, large energy turret 5, specs to 4), and a good all-arounder with no tracking issues.
Personally I'd skill for both to make use of both worlds, but start with the (navy) raven as it's less skill intensive and will preform well in all missions. After that, you can skill for amarr ships and take advantage of their large DPS at range, and massacre blood raiders, sansha, drones, etc. Once you're done with that, you can either look towards the paladin, golem, nightmare, or even all 3.

Edited by: Aleus Stygian on 28/08/2008 01:35:10 My first recommendation would be the Abaddon as well, but if you're doing a Dominix... Well, my own experience of lvl 4 mission tag-teaming comes mostly from me in an Abaddon and a friend in a Maelstrom. And those are not ships you want to lose many times over. Especially not if you have shield tank rigs, like my bud. But both those ships are also solid as rock, really. And I don't know how well a Dominix can do in the end when you compare tanks.
If you want a cheap, useful gun platform, go with the Armageddon. Or, if you have just a bit of cash to spare, throw out for the Apocalypse. Lots of low slots and some good engineering/gunnery skills will let you dish out some mean DPS with great consistency.
Astro's got a point though; the Raven's the easy way to go if you just want to spew out cheap damage and get to everything. Don't expect it to out-damage a dedicated turret ship when all the skills are up though.

Edited by: Death Cry on 28/08/2008 01:42:20 o/ May i recommend the domi repper as secondary ship.. Abaddon goes in first ..draws aggro and domi comes in..reps and paints for t2 sentries...Basically kiss principle...abaddon has mad tankability..Has worked really well for me and sometimes i go with a abaddon and raven team for speed
good luck
P. S. You can one volley frigs with t2 sentries out past 25 kms

You were right to go with CNR with torps, *assuming* you have good torp skills. You want 4+ in both range skills, t2 torps, then fit 3 range rigs on that CNR. I really wouldn't bother with an Amarr ship to tag along with your Dominix, because although their damage is nice, it's limited in type to em/therm, scorch is pricy (not the biggest downside, but worth mentioning) and the dominix is already able to pop frigate rats with 350mm's and sentry drones. The cnr can put out pretty absurd DPS, of any type, out to 70km. It's only weak spot is tank (or specifically, the cpu to fit a tank), but with your Dominix running in the tanking role, you will only need a minimal CNR tank.
In short, CNR with torps, as you originally planned, is ftw.

Well as tank on cnr i was planning to use Cap batt with some X-large booster(or smaller), when(if i) get reinfc. agro to be able to pulse some booster cycles so i dont get popped in hardest missions... also domi should be able to keep remote shield reps 24/7 on me just in case i get bigger agro...
Are sentries way to go when domi is left afk, or ogres II are better choise with good skills?

I like sentry's on the domi, because in conjunction with your guns you can pop frigates and what not quite easily. They also have no travel time, unlike ogres, which are slooow. You don't have to be completely afk with your dominix while dual accounting for missions. Run EVE in windowed mode, and use Evemon's feature to re-center the window so it looks like fullscreen. That way, you can alt-tab instantly, and manage both ships.

Apparently it doesn't occur to people that killing a battleship inside the concord response time takes a fair amount of firepower from ships that are just plain going to die.
I'm surprised people think it's worth the gamble to kill a deadspace/faction golem/cnr given the amount of isk you have to waste killing the thing on the off chance you can grab that gisti booster. . . But then again I don't know if Eve grants higher survival rates to the stupidly good gear than it does the T1/T2 gear.

This isn't really a big factor due to insurance policy in eve... What does a Suicide BS cost to replace (assuming your gang also has a someone in fleet to salvage your wrecks after concords pewpew) 10-20mil on avarage? So a gank squad could be viable for killing a deadspace/officer raven... Thou this will be changed with the latest patch as logically, you wont get insurance if concord kills you ------------

Tachy fit paladin/nightmare with navy AM and you're looking at 650-700dps from guns alone. Regardless of the "ohnoes only em/therm damage" you'll rip through everything but angels in no time. It's MUCH faster than a cruise fit CNR.
For angels, torp raven (not much need for range rigs when they orbit within 10km) for close range & use sentries on the angel BS hanging back.
Just make sure your repair dominix has it's own tank for those missions where stuff spawns.

This. respawns seem to aggro your gang mate before they do you- Easy way to overcome it is to have your dmg dealer the person who accepts missions and just send in your tanker first so first group aggro's the tank too.

Sadly not true. A lot of mission respawns will target your drones. If only it was this easy. Some missions are okay though for this but most of them arn't. The Gallente missions are pigs for targetting your drones & they can be killed very fast.

I would also seriously consider the megathron as damage dealer - while it doesn't have the top dps of all bships it does have a tracking bonus which in missions with cruisers and frigs translates into dps since you're actually hitting stuff. You can say "oh, aw, but I use drones to kill small stuff" but that's bolloks - you need to be able to F1-F7 targets to get things done before TODAY runs out you know what I mean? And not only that but stick tracking comps in mids! --- RBJ |

I was considering other BS... but torpedo cnr with painters is just... versatile with ammo types and doesnt have tracking problems.... Also its not skill intensive like guns setups...
About low sig npcs.... drones actually kill them before they fly to u, u just need good skills...

I've dual accounted missions.
You've got some good solid suggestions here - however if your domi is tanking the mission for you, I'd fit a high damage long range turret ship.
No defender missiles to lower your dps.
Domi will take care of short range small ships your turrets would struggle to hit.
Mid slots can be used to enhance your turrets instead of buffing your tank.
You could run a turret BS with locus rigs - use the long range turrets - fit high damage ammo.
For some lulz - throw some webbing drones on your domi along with some target painters - and web targets, light them up - and start bbqing them.
Its fun - its different, I'm sure there are more effective ways to burn through missions - but theyre quite a bit more boring than this. In my opinion at least. __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! Destry's Lounge is looking for a few good drunks - contact me in game.

I'm still saying torp CNR. You'll outdamage any turret boat, and unlike the last post seems to suggest, defenders are NOT a problem for torps 99.9% of the time. Rats simply don't launch enough defender missiles to take out a torp. While turrets are great, your Dominix has them, and it has sentry drones, which double as turrets, heh. Use the domi for popping the frigates in the mission, use the CNR to melt battleships, then finish off all the cruisers.
I don't think you'll beat it for pure killing power. A Mega might be decent on Gurista missions (even then it's got much weaker DPS), but against other factions where kin/therm aren't so great, it will be even weaker. Same for lasers against things like Guristas, although Amarr ships/Nightmare definitely tear up BR/Sansha (about the same speed as a torp CNR). The CNR can change damage types, does a pretty absurd amount of damage, and with javelins still has a pretty respectable range (I'd definitely go with 3 range rigs).
I think the reason you don't see torp CNR's more often is they lack the CPU to fit much of a tank, at least without spending a good bit of ISK on it. The golem fits a tank with ease, and has the tractor bonus, and so even though it doesn't have quite as much DPS and range as the CNR, a lot of people prefer the golem due to ease of use. Long term, you might switch to the golem as well, and then upgrade your domi to a gank fit, rather than a lot of tank. Honestly, I tend to prefer running two gank-fit ships in missions, as opposed to 1 tank 1 gank, because you simply can't gaurantee the tank will have aggro without warpouts, and things die so fast to dual gank ships that you really don't need much tank to begin with, haha.

I'd use 350mms on a Mega over 425mms, in missions - better tracking and the DPS difference is minimal. --

sadly true, pick your missions carefully,
no where above does it mention dont pay attention to what mission it is, certain missions cant be afk'd, SHOCK/AWE i know, weird huh?
in general if you are good at missions ie know what is what and the stagings of pops and triggers, you can actually facilitate full pocket spawn early on in the engagement and then simply let the drones do what they do,
end result, closest thing to afk you can get, again doesnt mean you dont have to set up the pocket(s) first, not to mention the ******ed 140m/s to the gate 70km away, damn armour rigs,

DPS is AWSOME, i got tons of 1600+ damage wrecks with this ship. I melt battleships like a hot knife thrue butter But you need ( as you said ) a dedicated tanker. |
