I have been struggling with making a decision on this for weeks so I turn to the Eve community to help me out. I am not looking for the "BEST" I am looking for a certain type of gameplay. I primarily prefer to fly small roaming gangs with occasional solo PvP. It seems like either direction I go first I can't be wrong but just thought I would get a few ideas from you guys/gals. In regards to skills I have excellent drone, gunnery, and missile skills. The only thing I would need to train for any of the ships would be medium lasers for the zealot. There are many pros and cons to both I would greatly appreciate any opinions or past experiences you've had flying either class.
Thank you, Augorhawk

i think he is calling your achura char butt ugly.
anyhoo, yes you can't go wrong with amarr recons and hacs. Train them all! they are very diverse in what they can do. Amarr Hacs have good dps and survivability and the recons are also deadly in small gangs/solo.
zealot would probably be my fave ship of all time, it's so fun to fly if you like being a small gang damage dealer with good agility/speed. It will get you on top of most killmails too, if you are a dmg dealing w***e. |

From the research I've done the sac has many fittings from tank to gank, can the zealot have a decent tank also or primarily suited for dps?

getting all the support skills to fly either properly takes a lot more time than the actual ship and weapon skills. imho, after getting all those and cruiser V it would be a shame to NOT get all following shipclasses to at least IV. like... recons, hacs, hics, logistics.
so once youre in the position to fly t2 cruisers, why not just get both, they're all oh so tasty. and if youre not neurotic about getting everything to V you can enjoy them all pretty soon, at an acceptable performance level.

Yeah, I had this problem last night: Hmmm, I could train Falloff 5, or HAC 5, or Logistics 5. Decisions, decisions!
I think I went with TD4 so I can do the TD spec skill.

zealot can have a good tank yes, high base armor resists and 7 low slots (im pretty sure its 7, just going off the top of my head) |

Support skills are not an issue at all, they are trained up to mostly V's. I guess I was trying to get an idea in regards to which the greater eve community enjoys flying more. What types/size of targets they normally go after with each etc.

I fly botha zealot and a pilgrim. the zealot would be fine in a small gang, but the pilgrim is hands down better on its own. Do note that the zealot also does well for even the hardest of lvl 3 missions so it can also make you money on the side if your so inclined.
both are great ships, i prefer to pvp in the pilgrim.

Your choices:
Sacrilege: solid ship, pretty good damage output, decent tank. Since there's no armor tanked missile BC or BB to make it obsolete, it's an easy choice if you want missiles and armor tanking.
Zealot: fast, excellent range, good damage. Even post nano nerf it'll still be good, since its superior speed (compared to BCs/BBs) will let it use that optimal range bonus very effectively. Oh, and lasers are currently the best weapon in the game. Hint: fit pulses with scorch ammo and optimal range rigs.
Pilgrim: awesome covert ops hauler. With cargo expanders and cargo rigs, you can get 1400m3 cargo bay on this ship. This will allow you to make those high-value cargo runs through hostile space when it's too big to fit in a covops.
Curse: currently awesome, soon to be much less awesome. The nano Curse is a nasty ship right now, and essentially EVE in god mode if you can afford a snake set and faction fit. But it's getting a long overdue nerf, and won't be nearly as useful by the time you can fly one.

It has a good tank for a cruiser, sure, if you devote 5-6 slots to it and the rigs. But a sacrilege will do it better and deal about the same damage, while being more cap stable and having more mids.
So yes, the zealot can tank, but it's sort of a waste. Throw 2 (preferably 3) heat sinks on there, some buffer, and go gank from borderline absurd distances. (600ish dps from 11km is possible with very very high skills and implants) __________________________________

Yea yea... I guess I'm nothing but a dirty FOTM chaser. :p
It just never really was worthwhile to spend my time getting when I could be getting Torps 5 or Lg Projectiles 5 or BS5 or whatever.

Edited by: The Djego on 27/08/2008 22:52:57 I would say go HAC.
Zealot and Sac is awsome atm, even without Nano they stand out by Range and Tank.
Everytime I fly a Zealot with my 2. Char I ask myself why the Deimos don`t have a 10% Damage Bonus at the HAC skill, and Im realy speced in Gallente(no not yust Level 4 will do).
Zealot is the Nr 1 Gang HAC, it kills support quick and dont have to go close to anything that can kill it.
Sacrileg is awsome to, even without Nano it can wear out allmost any BC by his good Tank and preaty good Slot layout. It¦s realy great for Solo Ship, fast, flexible Slot Layout, good Tank and quite a lot firepower for a Missle Ship. Also it is black for pure awsomeness. ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

I think it depends more on your gameplay I can fly them all but not confident enough with the curse / pilgrim
Zealot is real good for gank if you like that notwithstanding its tank is also pretty good if using 2 heat sinks, the Sac is more tank, atm I enjoy the zealot most after having time in the Sac

I've come back to the pilgrim lately for these reasons...
1) warping cloaked is safer 2) when life gets busy you can cloak afk anywhere 3) capless damage from drones 4) decent solo opportunities still exist...
The curse I've always loved. There was a post a while back that a curse can do almost the SAME damage as a zealot when you fit the curse with 2 heavy missile launchers.
This lets you rat in deep space 0.0 on the side, which is a boon...
If you're doing small gang also, you can choose many more roles with the recon, including fitting the scan probe launcher... If you go zealot, you're basiclly the 'damage dealer' and will get primaried a lot more...
