Edited by: sgtcommunic on 27/08/2008 02:29:59 Yo,
Is it worth mining jespet using a small POS. Would it make enough to pay for the POS fuel ( NOT including ice )
EDIT : Using a few hulks
Thankss

IMO, not by a long shot. You'd be better off mining missions in empire. If someone discovers you you're meat.
POS fuel is what, 50M a month? a few hulks should have that done in an hour or two using veld or scordite.

No, Jaspet is not worth it. If you are going to set up the tower for no other reason then to mine Jaspet then it is not worth the risk. Like the previous poster said... Go mine Veld and Scordite in High sec with a whole lot less risk and make enough to support the tower. Use the tower for something other then a base for mining.

you can make it cost effective by having a moonminer if the moon has some popular mineral, benefit of a mining pos is that you can place it in a station less system.
if your freighter capable you just ship the ore now and again along with the moon minerals, i suggest you kit the tower with extra guns and mods to be onlined if attacked or at war.
guides on POS defence is to be found and having members that can use the guns is important, pos's on auto defence is a grind but with gunners is a diffrent ballgame.

Jaspet is the single least valueable ore in the entire game. Right now due to a great disturbance in the f.. drone regions it's running a lot higher than usual, but even so that's only pushed it up to being the 2nd crappiest ore in all of New Eden, and only by the slimmest of margins (less than 1%). ---

Nocxium and Zydrine have been down the drain ever since the Drone Regions came along. Those two minerals mostly determine the overall value of the low-sec ores (Jaspet, Hemorphite, Hedbergite) and since Nocxium is hovering around 85 ISK (as to 500 ISK previously) the ores are (ISK-wise) not worth mining.
They are however a nice find in Gravimetric sites as they do yield significant portions of Nocxium and Zydrine when you mine it, rather than having to buy it yourself.
Low-sec mining in and of itself is currently not worth it (even if you know what you are doing) due to the amount of risk that is added compared to less ISK making ore. ------------------------ Ship Yield Calc Improve Mining |

Would it be more worth it to setup a POS in high sec system to mine ice without doing 3 jumps ?

High security ice is currently totally worthless, you're better off mining basic veldspar in terms of isk/hour. As pathetic as it is, veldspar is the second most valuable ore outside of 0.0, the most valuable is kernite but it isn't worth that much more.

Supply and demand.
As larger corps/alliances gang up to do mass mining OPs and hitting the market with their take, the price goes down. Prices vary by region and mineral. However, low sec mining is seldom worth it these days given the prices versus the risk. -------------------------------

At the moment you will earn at least as much mining in highsec as you will in lowsec / crappy 0.0.

Not really.
If you can moon harvest some semi-decent stuff, it might tip the scale though.

Hauler spawns and drone regions happened.
As far as moon mining: good luck with that. Ponder that entire alliances pos spam indiscriminately and use the mined minerals to partly offset the fuel costs. And typically 80% of all t2 production costs are tied to promethium and dysprosium.
Be sure to do your homework before setting up a moon mining operation. You're far better off running labs in highsec to copy/research BPOs for resale.
p.s. nocx sells for 150/pu in my back yard. come on over and mine me up some!

Ive been told that some corps make decent isk by placeing a pos in stationless system in low sec, from what i was told they had a small pos that moonmined and also had a refineing array to refine ice (good skills close to 100% refine rate).
they mined 2 types of ice and the surplus of what the tower burnt the sold on market (better prices the closer you get to 0.0), the ore they mined was used to make ships/modules fore market in low sec (only had to get the megacyte ofcorse).
so yes you can make a decent living and with the rise of moon materials to fill the demand of T2 market i guess it will be more atractive fore small corps/alliances to carve a place in low sec.
biggest benefit you dont have to pay rent or homage to alliances like BoB/AAA/TCF and so forth since they dont care and might actually be one of the bigger customers fore capital fuel and strontium

that drone region crap about why jaspet is worthless is pretty funny. I say crap because years ago, BEFORE drone alloys were some B.F.I. from ccp, Jaspet sucked just as bad.

Jaspet was bad 4 years ago, then they boosted it by adding zydrine, and it was for a time more valuable than highsec ores. So was Hemorphite (about double Omber which was the most valuable highsec ore at the time).
Along came the drone regions which had huge excesses of nocx/isogen/zydrine and the price of all three tumbled (nocx went from 650 isk to 80 isk), Isogen went from 110 isk to 60 isk, Zydrine went from 3500 isk down to 1200 at one stage before being rebalanced. That made omber, and jaspet, which depend on high iso/nocx/zyd prices tumble. Hemorphite/Hedbergite/Jaspet all depend on good iso+nocx/nocx+zyd/nocx+zyd prices to be worth mining. When they were twice as worth mining as highsec ores, they were occasionally worth mining in lowsec. However no one in their right mind would mine them now as they are worth less than anything available in the safety of highsec.

heh. i went back to my own forums and looked up some Exodus period threads of mine, and before (hehe even had a thread about m00) and that was when i must have decided jaspet sucked.
so they boosted jaspet when Cold War happened? Or Exodus? Think i started playing the game back in summer 2003. I call bullshit regardless, simply because Jaspet never HAD zydrine in it.
And way back in 2003 it had nocxium. It's always sucked

So jaspet now has zydrine, akin to pyroxeres having nocxium. pretty funny i've overlooked that for so long. huh. fascinating. Only problem is such a low quantity will never improve it's viability. The price of nocxium will affect it though.
and god, that's always sucked for price.
It was boosted around the end of 2004 I think. It didn't exactly make it really good, but it helped, it was worth more than highsec ores at least.
2004 nocx was worth about 350 isk / unit, just before the drone regions were released it had got up to 650 isk/unit, actually making Crokite worth more than Bistot/Arkanor for a while.
If nocx headed back to about 300 isk/unit it would start to pull the lowsec ores up. But to be honest what's really killing everything is that due to alot of loot refining / drones etc people no longer have the ability to choose what minerals they are bringing in. If the drone compounds have alot of nocx, then there's going to be alot of nocx generated. People can't then just switch away from mining nocx as it's a side effect in ores like Crokite, and they never were mining anything with significant nocx in empire.

1. Glazed Hedbergite 2. Vitric Hedbergite 3. Hedbergite 4. Radiant Hemorphite 5. Fiery Kernite 6. Vivid Hemorphite 7. Hemorphite 8. Luminous Kernite 9. Kernite 10. Massive Scordite 11. Rich Plagioclase 12. Dense Veldspar 13. Condensed Scordite 14. Azure Plagioclase 15. Concentrated Veldspar 16. Scordite 17. Golden Omber 18. Plagioclase 19. Pristine Jaspet 20. Veldspar 21. Viscous Pyroxeres 22. Silvery Omber 23. Pure Jaspet 24. Solid Pyroxeres 25. Omber 26. Jaspet 27. Pyroxeres
As you can see Jaspet is a pretty bad ore to mine with current market prices, including the fact that its in lowsec.

Pardon my naivete, but why wouldn't you just mine Veldspar in hisec, refine it, sell the tritanium, and use the money from that transaction to buy three or four times the amount of fuel for your POS that you could have harvested from ice in the same time?
Check out the (IGB compatible) Grismar's Ore Chart for some assistance.

Edited by: mingmin on 30/08/2008 13:49:01 just a quick question if you were mining into a pos, were do you store minerals/ore, as most pos mods dont seem to have the m3 capciaty?, (without a roquel)

A Corporate Hangar Array hold 1,400,000 M3, that almost 1.5 freighter loads. Even on a small POS you can have 2-3 online at one time, and just have spares anchored and offline if you really need the space. ----------------------------------------------- "EVE isn't meant to look like a harsh, uncaring universe..........it is one..." |

Well, for a long time ice was steady at 50% the value, time being equal, mining veldspar. Well, as far as early 2008 is concerned...in late spring the price for isotopes just went through the roof and mining ice for fuel was prudent. Lately though, ice products have gone into the sewer (as that ore optimizer clearly shows. THANKS FREAK! Not to mention grismar's ice charting has been improved for isk/m3. yeah!) Since ice is 4 times less than veldspar, it's really only used to people who want to play the game, but need to be AFK alot.
So right now there's no point to ice mining unless you've got nothing better to do. Rememeber, ice mining is ******edly simple. just park in front of an icicle and turn on your lasers. The cycle time and cargo space usually give you about 15minutes afk ability.
