Maybe I am the only one having this issue but if I open the map (it does not matter if I am in space or a station) my PC will start to lock up. The map opens with the stars and the 'you are here pointer' but after this my PC will lock up for about 20-30 seconds every 3-4 seconds (it will continue in this cycle locking/unfreezing making the map unusable). I can tell the PC/Eve has locked up as the cursor in the search field on the map control will stop flashing and I am unable to always move my mouse pointer. If during the few seconds that the PC is not locked up I manage to alt tab out the game the PC itself is fine and does not lock up while Eve is minimised ,it is only when I have Eve maximised and I am looking at the star Map that it locks.
I hope that this is added to the list of things to look into and fix as it is really annoying not being able to use the starmap it makes a good part of the game and a usefull part at that unusable and pointless for myself at least. |

Try and clear your cache files and see if that would fix the issue. If it doesn't try and clear your settings as well, and see if that makes a difference. Instructions on how to do this can be found here.

Sometime just clearing the cache is not enough, and clearing the settings is required as well, however even then it might not get fixed in all cases (in most cases one or the other does fix it).
If neither works, I would suggest filing a petition under Technical / Crashes & Lock ups from here.
Please include LogServer and DxDiag in the petition.

Ok thanks will give that a try although I don't hold out much hope. I tend to clear my cache files everytime before starting the game anyway.
There are so many bugs / glitches in the game at the moment, it's just not even funny anymore. Maybe it is time to just play out my remaining sub and leave till all of these issues are addressed and fixed.
Thanks forsak3n for confirming that I am not alone with this issue. |

Please do try clearing the settings as well. If you do it manually you can easily restore the settings if it doesn't work, and if it doesn't please do file a petition with the LogServer and DxDiag and we'll have a look to see if we can spot what's causing this and hopefully find a fix or workaround for this.

I will try clearing the settings as well after making a back of them first. Will let you know if this fixes it.
As for filling a bug report I gave up doing that months ago after I completed one about how the screen flashes/flickers like mad when I load the game it got assigned to a defect thus far it is still not fixed as far as I know. I say as far as I know as I have a workaround for it now I just run my desktop in 16bit colour mode instead of 32bit. If they are not going to fix these things after they are reported I sure as hell am not going to waste my time reporting them. |

I would like to ask you to file a petition instead of a bug report so we can attempt to find a workaround or fix the issue for you. The petition system is separate from the bug report system. When filing a petition you will get a GM to answer your petition.
I believe the flickering issue when starting the client was fixed, or at least I've not experienced it anymore myself.

I tried doing what you suggested cleared out my settings and cache files and the problem I have with the map still exists.
As to the client flashing and flickering on load I will test that tomorrow I will put my desktop back into 32 bit colour mode although I will say the problem for me still existed just a month or so back so unless a change as been made since then I expect that it has not been fixed at least for me. I do not recall seeing it being addressed in any Patch notes either maybe I missed it. |

Ok, since clearing cache and settings didn't work, please do file a petition with the logserver file and DxDiag and one of us GMs will have a look.
As for the flickering issue, I did try it just now again (I have a Radeon graphics card), and I did not see the flickering as it used to some time back. I do use Catalyst 11.8 driver at the moment.

The Eve client for me still flickers like mad when I load it if my desktop is set to 32bit colour I have just tried it and this is also with clean settings and cache. This problem has not been fixed for me if they have so say fixed this issue could you please show me where this is mentioned in any of the patch notes of late.
I am using an old NVidia graphics card and although old it is so say supported in the game as is capable of shader 3. I will submit a petition as soon as I am able to test the map which will be after this latest patch has been applied to the server. |

Petition created as suggested. Both DXDiag and eve server logs included I now wait for the solution. :) Hopefully to the client flashing on load and the lock up while viewing the Map. |
