Relatively new player, only been running L4's for a couple weeks. I was wondering, what is the easiest/best way to convert my LP's into some extra ISK? Is it better to save them up to buy myself faction gear from the LP Store? At this point, I can't tell if using my own LP's would be a better deal than 'cashing them out' and buying faction gear from contracts.
Thoughts?
Thanks

There are really no easy answer to that question.
Ammo seems to fetch good price per LP, but some hassle involved there.

If you can wait to earn up enough Loyalty Points, it should be cheaper to cash in the LPs for faction gear, since the majority of empire navy stuff comes from people cashing in their own LPs. However, many items, particularly pirate navy items, also come from loot drops. You have to consider the contract price and compare it to the value non-LP requirements (usually ISK and tags), and the remaining difference to the number of LPs. For example, if it costs you so much for the tags etc. that the "worth" of the LPs is only a few isk/LP, it would be a better idea to buy from players. --- Sig Starts Here --- Lord Haur - Imperial Academy Logistical Support

You put in a few hours of work into it and make yourself a spreadsheet. Check out prices in ISK, tags, items for each item and add it up. Then check how much the item is selling for on average on market or contracts. Subtract the price of components from the item price - divide by loyalty points. If you get a ratio over 1:1000 that is good enough. With some items you can get as high as 1:10,000 sometimes and people have reported even higher.
As a mission runner this is basically your homework that you have to do to maximize your profits. If you don't do it - you'll lose out.

Usually the best paying things are the most expensive things an agent has to offer. Usually these are also the things one can't get any other way but through missions. Faction implants are usually the best Ships and some hardwiring implants are second... rest is crap

Actually, ships are amongst the crappiest possible returns, barely above 400 ISK/LP most of the time (for empire LP shops anyway).

I think I understand the math, but my history with math is not so bright. So the question is, is there a guide on how to set up the excell spreadsheet to figure this out? Some of us may be mostly spreedsheet illiterate

Example...
Line 1 -> headers/descriptions Line 2 -> first item Lines 3, 4, etc -> other items
A2 - item name -> fixed B2 - item amount per offer -> fixed (1 for most things, 5000 for ammo, 100 for charters) C2 - LP cost per offer -> fixed D2 - pure ISK cost per offer (if any) -> fixed E2 - additional ISK cost of required items (if any) -> may vary depending on items neede (if any) F2 - price you think you can sell ONE unit of the item for -> varies a lot depending on market/contracts conditions G2 = ((F2*B2)-(D2+E2))/C2 -> the ISK value of 1 LP (auto-calculated)
Fill in columns A->F for as many items as you like, drag down from G2 to the bottom of your table. And if you want, sort by G column afterwards.

Friggan Awesome and bookmarked for when I get back home.
EDIT:
Line 1 you have Headers and/or descriptions. Do mean something like ammo/guns/ships/hardners/implants etc.

No, I mean like A1 text saying "Item name", B1 text saying "Item amount"... You know, a table head, so you know what goes where.

EDITED:
I am getting slightly confused now, but I will have to try it out when I get home. In your list you have Item name as A2 and Item price as B2, which are columns. You have headers in Line 1, which should at the top then say A2-G2 you put the information. So if you put headers in Line 1 then your first item should be B2-G2, correct? Should I just disregard your line 1 and line 2 comments at the top of your original post?
