Edited by: Dilbertthebiggaybear on 09/08/2008 11:37:38 Hello all, just after some advice on whether or not y'all think this character could fly a Raven effectively. For the time being I'm planning to be boring and just grind Level 4's in it, and would like to know how feasible it would be, or if not why not. Any suggestions? :)

You'll be more than fine. Work on your Cruise Missiles though, and get Shield Operation to V and Shield Compensation to IV.

yes you would fly it just fine...only thing you lack is cruise missile specalization other then that it looks good.
well getting t2 hammerheads would help alot as well.

If you can afford it try and use faction ammo, that will boost your DPS. You will want to be able to use T2 hammers IMO. The Raven's biggest problem is that even though it can fit specific types of ammo, Defender missles on BS rats will knock out 1-3 missles per salvo and put the hurt on your DPS. Drones help. You will need a Drone Link Mod to get them out to the 50km+ that some of the 1Mil ISK BS spawns orbit at.

Another route to that is to train some drone skills. Electronic Warfare Drone Interfacing, for example, adds 3km per level to drone control range; Scout Drone Operation adds 5km. Scout at V (it's a rank 1 skill) and EWDI at 4 gets you 57km. Total time to train that pair, assuming decent learning skills, is about 10 days.

No, just no. Add mission-specific drones instead of always jumping on the t2 hammerhead bandwagon. --- Braaaiiinnnsssssssssss |

Well the T2 Hammer bandwagon has a lot of members on it :)
BUT! if you are a Caldari pilot flying in Caldari space running Caldari missions getting T2 Horents and Vespas is a no brainer thanks to all the Guris missions you get. Getting the basic skills for all T2 light and medium drones would take about 8-10 hours if I recall so its not that hard to do. Truthfully I'm just lazy and stick with T2 Hammers most of the time.
And as far as drone range goes, the Raven has 2 unused high slots so I generally went with a Tractor Beam (slow ass battleship 20km reach for various missions) and a Drone Link. Once I switched to a Rohk I did train the EWAR.
I'd also like to say that I carried a flight of lights and mediums. I used the lights because they will work better against some of the T2 frigates you run into from time to time. They are also very fast and can cover distances nicely. That is just personal preference though.

That skill can get very useful when flying the navy raven too, and those few extra km of range is nice even if you have room for a link.

I do the same when soloing. The light drones are great as either throw away drones that can be used even when risking aggro on them (might want to use t1 for that though), or for when you know you might have trouble tabking for some reason and want to be able to pull them in fast for a quick warp out. A set of T2 light drones also make fora nice backup set if you mess up and get your mediums killed. I replace them with shield transfer drones though when missioning in a group, it's pretty nice being able to do full damage with the mediums and then quickly switch over to some support if a team mate need help.

Hope this helps. x

Thanks to everyone else for your advice, I'm planning for T2 Hornets soon, as well as the obvious shield skills and CM Specialisation :)

The man speaks truth.
I tend to stick with T2 Vespas for Guristas as they kill frigs, destroyers and cruisers fast, and add a sizable chunk of damage to your missiles when killing battleships.
For other rats use rat specific ammunition and drones. This is important, otherwise you'll spend much longer killing rats than you'll need to, and if you choose the wrong ammo/rat type you may end up not even denting the rat you're trying to kill.
