Ok, I had a crash last night while I was playing. The first after playing over 10 month. But the result was, that all my settings are lost ( the ingame-folders for the bookmarks, the settings for the windows ( e.g. Market ), the overview-settings and and and). The settings of my station containers are lost, too ! I have to reconfigure all the containers I have at the stations... I hope, that my containers in space are still safe... Ehm, I don't like and after I made a frustration-bug report ( answer from CCP: make a backup, no more information, very funny ), I decided to investigate that point. So stop whining and here are the questions:
1. What ? I found files in 3 folders ( translate it a bit from german structure, so it may be spelled in another way ) 1.1 ..\documents and settings\TaknTar\local settings\application data\CCP\EVE Under this folder I have 2 main folder >> c_programme_ccp_eve_tranquility >> cache 1.2 ..\program files\CCP\EVE 1.3. ..\own files\EVE
Questions: Is there a link available, where CCP defines the actual folders or files, which are important to restore the settings ? And if yes, will this information be updated after a patch or new version ?
2. Tool Is there a tool, which can make a backup and is updated, when CCP changes something ? Of course, I can use some zip-programs, when I know the paths/files. But that is not comfortable and not safe. I think, CCP should give us an offical solution. But perhaps, they (CCP) made something and I didnt found a description for that.
Clear is: Just to say "make a backup" without any further description is not a professional answer and not a solution.
Thanks in advance for your answers !
Tak
P.S.: Yes, I have searched the forums, but I only found some suppositions, where and what to save.

No.

Not only this position is undocumented, but it's bound to change at any drop of a hat by the dev team.
So you know they will move something, but you won't know what, and neither from where nor to where.
Sweet, ain't it?

Nothing official.
"cp -a" is a good friend, however. "rsync" an even better one. Use the man(1), Luke! --- Kate [HKG, PXF] "The game with voices, that you can't win, nor finish." |

Agree with post #2 above, I suspect that some patch & server changes might affect it directly or indirectly that CCP prefers to keep quiet on the offical details on how to back it up. The most typical response to an issue which cannot be replicated would be, have you cleared your cache? I strongly doubt they'll ever make that information available until such times it becomes more robust.
From my own personal findings (so,caveat emptor):
1) To backup/manually update your IGB links, it's just a simple "bookmarksSites.txt" text file under : C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\cache\Browser
2) To backup most of the user settings like overview, bookmark folders, windows positioning etc. - it's stored in the file "user_xxxxxxx.dat". Where xxxxxxx is your User ID serial num. This is applied per account, not per character. C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings
I have not messed with replacing the "char_xxxxxxx.dat" files. These I would assume are character specific cache or settings. Never needed to replace them since 2) gave me 90-95% of my settings back. Saved me an hour or two from reconfiguring a new client from scratch.
Btw, that someone from CCP who deemed it clever to code the station container lock on the client side ought to be lined up and shot by the firing squad. On second thought, get the person to unlock 1000 station containers in 100 different systems - then have him lined up and shot with an M249 SAW.

Edited by: Tak nTar on 03/08/2008 19:48:29 Yeah thx, meanwhile the path C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility is confirmed from CCP. This folder contains approx. 300 MB data. Thats a lot. But when I follow the instruction of Sturmwolke, then I have ( in this momement ): ..\c_programme_ccp_eve_tranquility\cache\Browser >> only the file bookmarksSites.txt = 1 KB and all files here ..\c_programme_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings = 40 KB This size is good to write an application in front of the eve-start. Hm, I think I'll make a small app, which saves the files to a zip, copy the zip-file with a timestamp to a new folder and start eve. But it would be nice, if we could get some support from CCP here.
