So this merlin pops in and loots one of my wrecks. Was ready to let missiles fly but he never flashed red...why?

Hey either didn't steal from the wreck or he didn't steal from YOUR wreck. Remember that salvaging doesn't get him agressed, only stealing from the wreck does.

No it was my wreck for sure. Destroyed both Guristas moments before the merlin showed up and there were no other wrecks in the the area.

Did he take loot from it, or just salvage it? Is he in your corporation? Did he kill it or did you?

Just loot, no salvage. I was waiting to blast him and almost did when the white wreck icon changed to an empty wreck, but he never flashed red.
Not in my corps.
He never fired a shot. No reason to. I destroyed both Guristas a couple of minutes before he and his buddy in a retriever popped in. Never seen this happen before. It's probably my imagination but he seemed to take his sweet time looting the wreck, almost like he knew he was looting without aggression. Wierd.

I forgot to mention that, just to make sure I wasn't seeing things, after the merlin left I targeted the wreck and selected a missile. There was no security warning. It was definitely my wreck and the merlin definitely looted it without aggression.

I thought this was in a mission, and now I'm thinking maybe it was in an asteroid belt. If these were belt rats, the wreck belongs to whoever kills them, I believe as defined by who did the majority of damage. Maybe your overview was screwed up, showing the wreck as white to you when it was his.

The wreck was a belt rat in Piekura. If the overview settings were screwed up and it really was someone else's wreck then I should have got that "Proceed with this dangerous act?" warning when I targeted the wreck with a missile.
I appreciate all the replies. I think this was just one of those system hiccups and a very lucky merlin.

Or unlucky Merlin - if he stole from your wreck, he probably WANTED you to fire. ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University.

Could be right. In that case I guess we were both a little down on our luck today.

Nah. If he wanted that he would have loitered around long enough for any delay in the flagging to go trough The lock on warning should have told him that the OP was ready and willing to dance.

Simple and to the point, that's what must have happened.

Except that the white wreck icon indicated it was not empty. His ship settled over the wreck, and I watched as the "full" wreck icon changed to an empty wreck. The merlin hovered there for maybe another 10 seconds and then warped off, leaving the other "full" wreck untouched. He never showed red. I posted the question on this forum right after it happened.
I'm still guessing it was a hiccup caused by lag that was the culprit.

Possible, but also possible that desync showed it as full, when it was, in fact, empty. Sometimes, a seemingly full wreck turns into an empty wreck right before my eyes, and I've seen this more and more lately... (Given the fact that I'm usually in fields of wrecks looking for other people's stuff, you can imagine my irritation.)

Also possible, and by the same token, this 'lag' may have incorrectly shown the wreck as being full, when it was empty.
