Edited by: Professor Wilkins on 15/07/2008 12:47:12 Eve online in my opinion is one of those mmo games that stands out a long way with any other mmo in the market. The fact that eve is an mmo with a single server which everyone is not sharded is a massive achievement and should be complemented. I have played eve for so many years and everytime an expansion is released, it brings a whole new dimension everytime.
There is many opportunities for players to explore the universe and take up many occupations such as combat, industry, pirating etc, the game is create and destroy what your dreams make. The market and contract system allow people to buy and sell items that have been built or looted and with my experience with other mmo games cannot match this.
Also with the use of comm software the world has become smaller where players have made friends with others all over the world. This is a good thing as people are interacting.
I think Eve is still good value for money and I recommend this game to anyone who wants depth and diversity.

I read it, and I somewhat agree, but there are of course sides to every point you just made. Not all are good, not all are bad.

because i wanted to write something positive instead of the usual whine. I played other mmos and I always come back to eve. So much more to do here.

Ooh yes, lets.
I'd like to whine about a potentially good opening post (i.e. containing absolutely nothing) being ruined through Ninja editing to add content that, to be honest, wasn't needed. It was the forum equivalent of a two minutes silence and I for one enjoyed it.

Professor Wilkins has a nice haircut. I think he can be trusted.
What do you guys say? Shall we give this Eve game a try?

Fair enough, but I think that (always sticking with EVE) applies to almost everyone here or they wouldn't be here. Stuff specific to you is better.
Like... I love that in recent times CCP have started to listen to the playerbase regarding the little things more in the last however long it has been. Even though sometimes they listen too much and get it a little wrong, I remember a time when the constant whines that even all of General Discussion could agree on were never implemented, and while new content was added the way we interacted with the game remained static. For the last year or more I've found that every time I come back there are new buttons or options or something which are a nice little feature that people had been asking for. Even though you could argue that CCP should react faster to these small requests, I appreciate the fact that they listen at all, as they could very well not bother.
Something like that. -

god no. EVE is a truly unique and special game in a cluttered field of wannabe's and rip-offs and flops and echoes, and a huge, HUGE part of that comes via the single shard. i've played pretty much every MMOG since UO and this is the ONLY ONE that has a coherrent and unifed feel to it, due to the single-shared.
this is the only MMOG where you can actually write a history of the game universe and it's relevent to everyone who ever played - doesn't matter who you are, you're playing in the same universe where so many legendary things happened - the GM's spanking m0o, the GHSC scam that made headlines followed by the banking scam, the Great War - all these things are ONLY possible due to the single-shard.
i played SWG for years and was part of a very successful guild who built the first (and longest standing) player city on our server and had a great rep with many accomplishments and who were at the forefront of the galactic civil war - on our server, we were well known and well respected - but there were what, 23 other servers with all those players building their own history and carvign out their own destiny, completely separate from mine. if someone ever wrote a 'history of SWG' then my guild wouldn't even get a mention, but if a corp here had achieved the same things we had there, THEY would be universally known and reknowned.
a prime example of this?
Chribba. even though probably 97% of EVE players have never met, seen or spoken to him, the guy is a legend who can endgender affection and trust.
This is arguably the ONLY game where you can actually have a "reputation" that means anything.

i dont claim to be anything special in this game, but I wanted to write a small review of this great game. I have played swg and before they messed it up it was a good game with the aim of great achievement to what profession players wanted.
I do not post in forums very much and for once I wanted to give some positive feedback to eve.
As much as people complain about eve, I think it is good value for money and I do enjoy it.
