Edited by: John Holt on 08/07/2008 07:10:34 I've just finished Tony G's book. Over all it is a good read and gives a lot of background information on the news that has recently hit the game.
There is one issue that concerns me and that is the impact of the book on role playing and role players in the game. Here the book impacts the Amarr greatly in that it affirms that the leaders of the Amarrian religion are not true disciples of the faith. How will role playing proceed with this information out for all to see? I suppose they could ignore it and claim that the information in the book is one point of view, and a wrong point of view at that.
How about it, role players?

You might want to add a spoiler warning to the title given its not clear from the title.

Personally, it was pretty much given that the Heirs are not believers of the religion. (Except Yonis.) There's a huge load of other information, though, specially on Marius explaining pod-pilot things. Penetration might be a problem, though, as not all have the book. Then there's the issue where the book just throws previously attested facts of PF out of the window. (Say, Ammatar naming for one differs from what it's given in the chronicle.) The book does also have minor internal inconsistencies, so I guess these things will be sorted out in time.
One of the important things to remember is that while we might in-character know some of what happened in the book, the book (just like chronicles) are mainly OOC information.

first: capsuleers stand above politics. thats the reason why there are gallenteans that fight for caldari and vice versa.
second: capsuleer knowledge =! player knowledge. ---

The trick is to differentiate between what we know as players and what our characters know.
What concerns me more is that large chunks of the existing prime fiction have been completely trashed by recent events (ie the Ammatar), leading to even more inconsistencies than before.

While true, that's not the point. The point is how does this work with what we know? As it appears to stand, it doesn't.

One important aspect of roleplaying it putting yourself in a role of someone with possibly limited insight and knowledge. He might not know everything that's ever been written on everything about EVE or chose to ignore or not believe what he has heard.
It's called playing a role.

Dude, the title mentioned the EA novel, and yet you still read the thread. Here's some advice for the future...DON'T READ THESE THREADS!!....see it's really quite simple. I stayed away from all the EA related threads on these forums until I'd read the book for myself, I suggest you do the same rather than posting here whining about it.
