I have downloaded and installed the latest client. When I start the program, the opening screen pops up, but thats as far as I get, not even a login screen. The computer does not lock up, just seems to go idle. I have tried to reinstall a couple of times. Any suggestions??

Edited by: Fridarey on 04/07/2008 14:20:14 Same problem here.
I started EVE, got the splash screen, then the login screen where the patch notification box came up. Installed the patch, restarted and now it just displays the splashscreen for a while then quits.
I've restarted the comp, deleted the EVE cache, and even made sure I have arialuni.ttf installed, as mentioned in the blackscreen thread (I know they're describing a slightly different problem!). Still no joy...
Any help very much appreciated

I have this problem when running in full screen and max graphics, with latest eve client.
I got it working by going to my eve settings and deleting everything but PC.dat and Prefs.ini (back up this directory first, PC.dat contains your suppress window's stuff, e.g. when jumping into low sec, engaging in pvp for first time)
For vista: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings
For XP:C:\Documents and settings\USERNAME\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings
Start the eve client, click settings and run in windowed mode, Voila :)
Plz fix CCP!

Hmms... well its alt+enter which switchs the mode for you. Try that. I had this happening to me then it stopped when I pressed alt+enter. Now its doing it again to me and the trick no longer works... damn.

Yah hit alt enter while you have it selected. I couldnt get to the login screen either... but once i hit alt enter it let me see the login screen. Also that wasnt working for me this morning so i entered the game in safe mode (its in the same folder as the regular .exe file) and then when in game put it into full screen. Then restarted the regular .exe and it worked...

I have a similar problem.
When I launch the game, I get the first splash screen pop up which then minimizes to the start bar.
Clicking on the eve icon in the start bar does nothing. If I try the alt + enter trick it causes a windows error as the program crashes.
Previously I was able to get around this by deleting the contents of the cache folder before launching the game. This would let me into Eve but would only work once before I would have to delete the cache again....
Now I can't get in at all!
Meh....

I have tried deleting cache, the alt-enter thing, and the safe mode. Still not working. I appreciate all the suggestions. At least I can still play WOW.

Seriously needs to be fixed, com-on ccp, i deleted eve and reinstalled the basic client, bc i had a skill change that i was late for, logged on changed skill and upgraded to premium in background, now it wont get pasted the splash screen again, so maybe just premium is bugged?

Update:
(This is under Vista, btw)
I usually launch EVE via a shortcut. I'd created a new shortcut exactly the same way as before after the patch, but the game wouldn't start. If I go to shortcut properties, Shortcut tab, and click "Advanced..." then set it to run as administrator, the game now launches ok.
I've no idea whether the shortcuts were previously created to run as administrator (although I did nothing myself to make that happen) or whether previous client versions just didn't care. Either way, it works now.
Good luck the rest of you.

Edited by: Ban Shui on 08/07/2008 05:27:41 I have the same problem. Initially restarting my computer worked, and then stopped working. Then alt enter on the splash screen worked, but it stoped working. Now I have tried running eve as an administrator and it deleted my settings.

THIS IS NUTS!!
I also instaleld the optional patch and now EvE wont load. Double click the short cut, opening splash apepars for a few seconds, then in minimises to the taskbar and refuses to expand.
I am using Vista 32bit, Premium Graphics at full screen.
Will try some of the fixes above, but why the hell should we have to.
Poor quality control again.
(I also suffered at the hands of the boot.ini fiasco and had to totally restore my hard drive, I lost so much I used the oportunity to upgrade to my current computer)
If any of the suggestions work I will post here.

Okay, I'm thinking that this problem is VISTA-specific after talking to a friend who was running XP. ALSO, I managed to get the window to come up by presetting the application to come up in 640x480 resolution, though I can only see the top left corner. So, the window is here, but it's a resolution problem, as theorized earlier. However I don't get how incorrect resolution will make the window 0x0. Perhaps through the properties on a shortcut we can input certain parameters into the "target" box to make it the correct resolution? If not, I'm stumped, and we will have to wait for CCP to fix this one.

Use the 640*480 compatability option to bring up the login screen, press alt+enter there. That should bring the full screen back up. then uninstall the optional patch. Presto, no more hang up after the splash screen!
