Currently you can warp to a planet, hit your scanner and see if anything is there. You can also find them with probes, but my question is, could there be combat sites (Unknowns) that you can only find with probes (or vice versa)? So far the only advantage I've found using probes to scan for combat sites and not your scanner is that they scan all the planets when you drop quests properly and you get their locations system wide. |

yes finding cosmic anomilys is diffrent from signutures. they have bigger plexes and more possible cash. go look up a scanning manual

Probes are way more accurate as well, so it increases the speed at which you find the sites as well.
My friend and I were both scanning one system, 2 scans per planet and we each went through the system once but it wasn't until I scanned a third time at the last planet that I found a site that both of us had missed. Quest probes on the other hand give you a 100% success rate (at least as far as I can tell).

^^ This.
I probed an anomaly, found it first time with quests (as usual), but forgot to BM it (duh). Didn't go back, but decided to use mu shipscanner, and could not find it again, even when I was close to it. Went back, put a probelauncher on my domi with 1 quest, and found it first time again.
BtW, this is one of the better anomalies (couple of rings of explosive dampeners, with 1.2 mill BS, 24 mill in bounties alone. Others are good to find with the shipscanner, but I only scan a few systems now for some hits, BM, and get back in my BS. Far better results.

Unkown, that means you used a Multisprectral probe to get that result.
You should start 2 scan cycles with the multi, one for Anomalies, one for Signatures.
Anomalies you can scan with Onboard scanner or probes Signatures you need to use probes.
The adv. to use Probes on Anomalies is, probes got a bigger Scan strengh, you allways find Anomalies after the 1. cycle. With the onboard scanner you could miss some, special the better ones.

I forget, did the anomalies usually allow mwd?

Most times yes, since it's not DED space.
But I've seen a few (esp. with the clouds) messages where something prevented you from using MWD or cloak.
Same goes for those who use assigned fighters.. It works almost every time in anomalies, but never on signatures which start with a gate.
