Here it is folks, after a few nights toil on microsoft excel, I announce the:
EVE ECM Jamming calculator
This jamming calculator aims to assist EWAR pilots flying Caldari jamming ships. It outputs your percentage chance to jam a particular ship in 1 jam cycle. The calculator has inputs for every variable involved with ECM jamming including;
- The ship you are flying (includes all the Caldari ships wich contain jamming bonuses) - The ship your opponent is flying (from carrier to frigate) - The number and type of jamming modules on your ship - Allows you to account for less jamming modules on your ship incase you are fitting a tank - The number and type of Signal Distortion Amplifiers on your ship - Accounts for the stacking penalty of S.D.A.'s - Allows for your Signal Dispersion skill level Making this a very comprehensive jamming calculator.
I trawled the forums/websites far and wide for a calculator that does these calculations, I couldn't find one so the "EVE ECM jamming calculator" was born.
All feedback is gladly accepted, tell me if you like it or not , or where abouts i can improve it.
Thanks and enjoy

Does it allow you to assume the other ship is using an ECCM module?
Some ships, such as a pair of basilisks working in tandem, might be packing ECCM to help reduce the chance of losing their locks.

The drop-down menus for Select Ship and # of Signal Distortion Amps don't work on my computer... but I use Open Office, so probably not your fault.

Edited by: knifee on 01/07/2008 16:38:24 Thats pretty nice, is there anyway to add in the effect of ECCM mods fitted to the ship you are trying to jam?
edit: asked for above as well.

Looks nice, but the Compatibility one does not allow me to select the hostile ship and the # of Distortion amps I'm using. Disallowed sig graphic. Send an e-mail to [email protected] when it meets the forum signature guidelines. ~Saint |

After haveing a quick look in EFT (I wasn't aware of the EWAR functionality it had) I found that it only calculates the %chance of >>YOUR<< ship being jammed.
The 'EVE ECM jamming calculator' is designed to assit EWAR pilots in calculating their chance to jam >>OTHER<< ships and allows for modification of a whole range of factors that affect ECM jamming.

Uhh no.
You can setup any ship configuration you like, then drop your ECM drones or modules into the "projected effects" window on the test ship. It shows % chance to jam.
It doesn't just have a list of all the default ship types for you to try, but it only takes a couple of seconds to create a new blank ship with default sensor strength. - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

Hmm what u are saying is correct.
What i am saying is my program differs from EFT, in the following ways; You cannot drop your ship bonuses, signal distortion amplifiers, rig bonuses (soon to be included in EVE jamming calc) into the projected effects area and this vastly affects the outcomes, I'll give an example of what i mean;
--------------------------------------------------------------- In the EVE jamming calculator I selected: SHIP=kitsune MODULE=T1 racial SIGNAL DISTORTION AMP= 2x T2 SDA JAMMING SKILL Lvl=3 (Then i selected the ship i wanted to jam) TARGET SHIP=Drake
this gave me a %chance to jam a Drake of: 83.11% ----------------------------------------------------------------
In EFT I did the eqivalent (as you suggested): selected a ship= Drake then i added jammers to projected effects area= 5x T1 racials
this gave me a %chance to jam a Drake of: 57.7% ----------------------------------------------------------------
Also only the latest version (2.6) of EFT takes into account your signal dispersion skill lvl (edit- this functonality stopped working after a while too).
Cleary EFT doesn't have the facility to calculate other factors involved in ECM jamming, therefore cannot be compared this calculator. Im not saying don't use EFT or it is crap (I find EFT extremely useful). I am saying if you are serious about ECM jamming you will find this jamming calculator "much" more useful than EFT.
Hope that clears it up |

Put the distortion amps on your ship first, then drag the jammer(s) to the projected effects. The bonuses will be applied.
EFT doesn't currently update projected effects if you modify the ship projecting them. You have to remove them from the target ship and re-add them.
Either that, or I misunderstand you.
From EFT:
Kitsune with (5) ECM - Spatial Destabilizer Is: 85% chance to jame a drake.
Kitsune with (5) ECM - Spatial Destabilizer Is and (2) Signal Distortion Amplifier Is: 93.3% chance to jam a drake. - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

Edited by: Bhodistafa on 03/07/2008 12:40:11 Looks like a nice speadsheet but doesn't fit to the page to view all of the cells in order to select them. The actual sheet cannot be 'grabbed' and dragged into view either. Also, the sheet cannot be resized because of its none moving nature.
Has anyone else had these difficulties?
I'm not picking fault by the way merely pointing out the bug I've encountered. Hopefully, it's something that can be resolved?

Yeah lol ive already reduced it in size. See i made it on a monitor running 1440 x 900 resolution, so if your running 800 x 600 it's gunna be massive or tiny on a 24" screen. Any way i'll look to see if i can unlock the scaleing within the file or something |

ok just did a bit of fiddling with the scaleing, we should be able to scale it now. Tho I could change the size of the spreadsheet with the zoom control in the bottom righthand corner.
Hope that helps |

Well I only included Caldari Ships for a few reasons, 1st one is they are the only ships that receive jamming bonuses. Also the other race's ships don't have enough mid slots to fit jammers and can't really waste low slots on SDA's either (it can be done but it's not really viable, if that makes any sense)
2nd is the database i'd have to build inside the spreadsheet would be huge to account for all ships in the game.
BUT.... In the next update I will look to included a 'generic' ship (that receives no bonuses) in the jamming section, all you'd have to do is manually input the amount of jamming modules you'd want to fit to it.
(maybe this is what u meant, if so, sry for the rant above. lol i'll prolly get shot down in flames for it)
At the moment tho, im busy trying to get this to work in open office, wich leads me onto my next post....

The trouble with this file not working in OpenOffice is;
In Excel i used "dynamic named ranges" as the input for the dropdown boxes, it's like a named range, except it uses a formula to decide wich text to put in the dropdown box, I used either the OFFSET or INDEX functions as this formula.
The trouble seems to be OpenOffice doesn't allow "dynamic named ranges" to be used to format dropdown boxes.
Anybody have any idea's on how to fix or get around this?
note; I've never used OpenOffice before, so the anwser is probably gunna be pretty simple. lol |

Some questions. Is it showing the cumulative chance to jam with all your modules? Is there a way you can show jam chance with just one module? I ask because rarely are you just focusing on jamming one ship. In most situations you are balancing 3, 4 or more ships, especially when you're in a recon.
Also, is there a way to edit the number of slots you are using? Sure Falcons have 7 slots, but many of us put a sensor booster with scan res script in one of them, which will affect the outcome.
Very nice spreadsheet btw.

Thanks Riley for your questions, here are you answers:
-Yes, the %chance is cumulative with all the modules you have selected -Yes you can show your %chance with just 1 module (explained below) -yes you can edit the number of slots you are useing (explained below)
Near the middle of the spreadsheet is a white text box with a label that sais - "Overide # of modules" this is what you use to do everything you asked above. I'll use an example below to explain.
Well we'll use your Falcon, when you input that ship, the calculator will say that it has 7 slots and it'll output your chance to jam with all 7 slots filled with jammers of your choice. Say you are useing only 5 slots for jammers on your setup, well you type in "5" in that text box I explained above, this will output your chance with 5 jammers fitted etc.
In the scenario where you have to jam say three different ships, well unfortunately you have to put them in 1 at a time, then select the amount and type of modules u might use on that particular ship, once you worked out your %chance, input the next ship and modules/type etc.
Hope that helps
Sollan
Oh by the way, a sensor booster only affects your lock time and/or locking distance, it has no effect on your chance to jam a ship (apart from a superficial effect, but that connot be calculated). Everything that affects your chance to jam in the game, is in this calculator (I hope) |

Thanks for the direction, this helps a lot. No worries about the multiple ships, I certainly didn't expect the spreadsheet to be able to handle multiple ships with one go.
As far as the sensor booster goes, you are correct, it does not affect jam chances. I use it to protect against other Falcons, in which case, as you will no doubt agree, the fastest lock wins.

Can't you do this via cell validation settings rather than using drop-boxes? Openoffice allows this iirc.
Also, any chance of providing an unlocked version? I'm sure that there are people who'd like to make their own tweaks or check your working.
Finally, I'd suggest adding the option of selecting a generic ship with no bonuses to ECM. Zzz research towers Direrie NEW: Liekuri
