Yeah, I know I'm crazy, but I got to thinking...
Astarte with hte following setup-
7x 250mm T2 rails, w/ faction/t2 ammo mwd/web/scram/injector t2 med rep, 800 plate, dc2, exp hardener 2, 2x magstab 2s 2x grid rigs
Fits with max skills.
292 DPS w/ spike at 65km optimal with 23km falloff, 68.75km lock range. Not counting drones or implants. I figure this would be a pretty decent support ship in a nano gang. Yeah, it's not 'nano' itself, but with other nano HACs around to defend it I think it might be a pretty good DPS platform.
With 65km+ range and almost 300 dps at almost 70km lock range, it'll actually be able to *hit* nano ships at range with it's medium guns, rather than using a sniper BS that can't track anything due to the large guns.
I'm looking at about 49k EHP with the above setup tank, and it's very cap stable, able to run the rep for quite a while. The plate will save it from most volley damage and give it enough time to jump through a gate if primaried. No, this isn't a roaming ship, and I wouldn't even consider it for small gangs, but in larger (20+) nano gangs, I think it would be a good support/DPS ship.
Yes/no?

I honestly see 0 support here. And anti nano.... with rails.... and awuful tracking... Just take a catalyst a rig it it will suck but it will do better at hitting nano then that. Also if "Yeah, it's not 'nano' itself, but with other nano HACs around to defend it I think it might be a pretty good DPS platform" why the hell u carry web and scram? they will do it for ya since its not like u catch anything by urself. Just IMHO ---- Drones eat everything. Trust me. |

Jump on the test server and find out how it works, but I think you need a couple of tracking mods to fulfil your purpose.

Edit: Not to mention, I don't see a single tracking mod on there.
So throw in some faction Iron/Lead etc., and put a TC with a tracking script in place of the web. Problem solved.
I was just putting the Astarte together and comparing it to the Vulture. A Vulture setup with 5x 250mm T2 rails and 3x magstabs with a few tracking comps in place with faction *antimatter* ammo gets about 53km optimal and 15km falloff, if you use range scripts and not tracking scripts. Tracking is pretty weak but better than spike, gets about 260 dps.
Also, what if your targets are webbed by Rapiers? Tracking isn't much of an issue then. And this is designed as a fleet support ship, not a solo setup.

Dude if a nano-ship is webbed by a rapier or huginn it doesn't matter what ship you are in, the webbed nano-ship will be dead no matter what. :P

I believe you may have better luck with a sentry Ishtar fitting? EFTing (sorry, no skills to test it) would have Garde IIs hitting at 48 Km with 538 DPS and 0.0565 tracking. No tackling but if you say it's in a gang and as you're long range anyway..
3x Omni directional tracking links 1x PWNAGE target painter (Woefullly underestimated.. it's the same as a 30% tracking boost) 1x 10MN MWD
2x Sentry Damage Augmentor - 538 DPS 1x Sentry Damage Augmentor - 495 DPS 0x Sentry Damage Augmentor - 450 DPS
Can't really find a fitting I'm comfortable with but I wouldn't really know since I've never flown it.. Looks very good on paper though.

Relatively paper thin, and would need to be remote repaired if primaried, but this one will actually hit a lot of fast stuff cruiser sized ships for reasonable damage from 20 km range and outwards (with tungsten it would have 47-49 km optimal). Ships orbiting at 5 km/s or faster within 15 km range would be problematic.

If you have to use rails (I always felt they have worse tracking than any other weapon I have used in game) then:
Eagle 5x250IIs with antimatter shooting where your spike astarted does for same dps and better tracking mids 2x track comps sensor booster not necessary 1xmwd 2xtank of some sort (2xLSEII might fit or at least 1 and an invuln) lows 3xmfsII 1xto fit rigs: 1xEm shield resist 1xwhat you like.
Run the numbers but I am fairly certian thi will shoot at the same range with Antimatter as your astarte does with spiek and for vastly better tracking. It will also be much more agile.
Having said that if you dont care about agility use a Ferox. Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

Huge penalty. Same as all sniping ammo.
