I did a couple of real 'bonehead' moves last night during a battle I had with the Lords Of Kaos, but all in all, it was a pretty good battle.
I've noticed that lately, we've been losing a good number of ships from our most recent wardec, and I need to tip my hat (again) to the Lords of Kaos for their intelligence of bringing the right ship for the right job. They employ Inties as tacklers, and easily omgwtfpwn any scanning/salvage ship we have undocking.
I was docked in a different station, and called on a couple of friends to do some recon for me. I noted that there were three or four WT's in system and it was reported that there were a couple of them camping the station where some of my ships were docked.
Most of the WT's left the system, (I figured it was a trap right from the start, as every pilot is in my address book, and they were all still online) leaving a single Ares about 65K off the station. I undocked in my new Magnate, and went about my duties scanning, while convoing with my buddy still watching the station.
I returned and docked at the station, as if to change to my salvage ship, and confirmed that the pilot had returned to camp the undock. I quickly switched to my Harb and undocked. Right away, he docked up, as he surely knew his Ares was no match for the Harb.
Not knowing what he might come out in (I've seen them fly BS's and BC's) I warped to a safe and waited, while my buddy sent me intel. The pilot undocked in a Brutix, and is an older character, so I was advised to seek backup before engaging.
A few things came to mind. If he's an older player, he'll obviously have more skills than I do. He'll likely have more experience, unless his character was 'store bought'. It's obviously a trap, as they've never left anyone 'alone' in our system before.
I thought about my options, and realized there was nobody logged in who could help out. I had already resigned myself that I might lost my ship, so I was ready for the battle.
I warped back to the station, with the Brutix about 45K away at the undock point. I approached with my Afterburner running, and after about a minute (during which time I assume he was convoing for backup) he started towards me as well, released his ECM drones, and started firing.
I set my orbit to optimal, returned fire, and watched as my shields melted quickly away... The battle went on for a few minutes, and I lost my lock a couple of times, and I noted that, while I was halfway into armor, he was already 50% into structure.
The lag was awful, with over 200 people in system, and I realized (too late) that my Overview was way too packed with crap (I really need to setup a dedicated 'PvP' Setting) as the Brutix sped out of my range when I lost lock for a second time... I was a little too busy with attempting a poor repair cycle, since I finally noticed that, now, my armor was melting away at a fast rate!
(That 'overview' problem I was talking about? It turns out one of their pilots in a Domi had been in the battle for a minute or so, and I hadn't noticed because of all the garbage in my overview.)
I was about 50% into structure when I finally looked again, (too late) as I was concentrating on getting a final lock on the Brutix, and trying to bridge the distance to get the kill. (Bloodlust, ftl.) I tried to warp away, but my Harb was much too slow to align, and I finally managed to warp my pod out and dock up.
When I finally docked, I realized I'd made two really dumb moves. I left it much to long to warp out, which had become possible, once the Brutix was so far out of range. I also never released my damn drones, which could have changed the course of the battle!
I gave the customary "GF" in local, and got no response, other than a convo from an immature WT who wasn't even involved, "Please, keep rigging ur ships". I also received an mail, telling me it was so much fun killing us (me especially) that they were upping their ransom to 200M.
Lessons learned, I guess.

So basically what I gathered by skim reading that is that some crappy pvp corp is slightly less crap than your corp? Am I right? - Violence isn't the answer, it is the question. The answer is yes. |

I'll give you credit for at least trying to fight someone who was older than you, who probably also had back up nearby, which he did.
Looks like its just not going too well for you atm and you need a change in tactics. I suggest more guerilla warfare (i.e. cloaking)

In a word, yes. Sorry for the "massive wall o' text", but hey, I did have paragraphs!

I appreciate that! I was fully aware that I might lose the ship, and was actually pretty amazed that I fared as well as I did against an older opponent. That's why I was so upset at the 'noob blunders' I made at not releasing the drones and not warping when I had the opportunity.
Originally by: Joe Starbreaker I suggest you blob them.
We considered this - a "Frigate Frenzy" so to speak... The only challenge we face is getting more than a handful of Members on at any given time.
With the time zone differences giving limited overlap of playtimes, and some of our Members being either on vacation or out in the (ugh) sunshine, it's tough to get enough pilots.
We're happy with the progress thus far, however, even if the numbers on our KB look bad.

Your just an easy target Tchell. Im sure you wree thinking the same thing when you attacked a three day old player by the name of Holdin Mcgee. Unfortunately you didnt notice he had back up and then made the fatal mistake of not running while you had the chance. |

That sounds vaguely like smack to me.
I'll admit - I was in a different mindset and wanted some payback for the recent loss of my Imicus, and did think he'd make an easy target, yes.
I only fly what I can afford to lose - old adage, I know, but it holds true.
I'm not some nub player who's going to go crying about every loss, don't worry about that. I try and make a learning experience from every loss, and that one was no different.
In that engagement, in particular, I found it nice to see that your Corp provided well-coordinated support in the way of a Domi, a Drake, a Brutix and an Incursus.
Don't fool yourself and mistake my bravado for a dim wit. I know you're bringing backup, and I'm well aware of the consequences for the mistakes I've made.
Edit: BTW, before anyone says "Post With Your Main!" you might want to update your character to show your Corporation.

You know, despite the less friendly folk who ridicule when you people post stuff like this, this kind of thread is a goldmine of good information for newbies like me.
Guides and such can only teach you so much, accounts of failure are second only to first-hand failure as far as learning goes.

Err... Do you normally have your camera zoomed up-close and personal on your ship? If so, you might want to consider unzooming so you can see everything within 50-75km. Makes those big red flashing Domis alot easier to notice. Not to mention incoming drones, ship ranges, etc. Even with a clogged up overview that shows everything from noobships to POS towers.

No worries! I know how some people can be in C&P forums...
I completely knew that I was outmatched when I was in that battle, and early on, I got owned by so many Drakes I still get nervous when I see them in space. It's good to know that I was actually getting through with my shots, thanks!
I was actually toying with offering a 1v1 with a couple of your Corp, but I can't really say I trust everyone in your Corp to abide by the rules... ...I mean, we are at war, after all.

No problem, Akina! When it comes to learning from losing, I'm a pretty good resource. I seem to lose more than I win, sometimes!

You know what? I do have my camera zoomed in.
I'll tell you, I've seen many videos where people panned out to see the whole battle, and I've always thought, "Damn! What are they thinking? I can't make out a damn thing!"
I can see now that it's farther from the truth, and what you're saying makes a whole ton of sense. Next engagement, I'm definitely going to try that!
Thanks!

Most of my ships have a Nano/Inertia Stab low setup, so it's as fast as it's gonna get for my frigates.
I can't bring myself to build a Nanoharb!

I liked your write up. It was clear, concise and interesting. Most of all it made sense, unlike some of the rubbish that's written either in TXT-speak or by someone who thinks the reader 'is like, you know, whatever!'

Why did you feel it was necessary to post this? certainly a worthless post. The OP posted about his own loss, more than most people do, not as easy to post as "I wtfbbqpwn'd a nub!!!!111!"
