Whenever my renewal date in July is I will cancel my subscription if I don't at least hear a decent response by CCP by then with regard to any update on the status of the Mac client. This is not like a retail product that I pay once for and deal with any consequences. I am paying a monthly fee that I expect to provide me with updates that improve the product on a continuos basis. It has only been in the last couple months that the Mac client has even gotten to the point of stability that it should have been at with the initial release. It appears to me that CCP has been completely ignoring its Mac users by not providing any information with regard to updates and/or Premium graphics. I am not even asking for exact dates or detailed plans, but the current lack of any response from CCP leads me to believe CCP does not care whatsoever about its Mac base.
I would suggest others consider canceling as well. It is not worth playing Eve if the support for OS X is this bad. We are only rewarding this behavior by continuing to pay for it.

Amen. Another choice would be that CCP pays my Windows license so I can bootcamp it. |

You guys are assuming that the Windows client is bug free. It isn't. The bottom line is that EVE is a game. If you don't like it, don't play it. I for one like it, and will stick with it. Hopefully CCP will figure out ways to get certain aspects of it to perform properly on a mac (i.e. eve voice, premium graphics). Don't boycott. You'll only be losing out. |

I don't think anyone is assuming that the other clients are bug free, but they do deliver their promises. For example premium. I don't mind bugs and problems as long as there is a sensation of CCP actually doing something about them. Same bugs are still happening that have been on the first client. Some people can't even log on (not sure if this matter has been completely fixed) and others can't even play due to constant crashing. Does that sound like a retail version? Hardly.
The lack of communication is the most scary part of all this. We have no idea if fixes are coming, what has been fixed and if there will be a premium client (which was estimated for Q1, no dev has even mentioned anything about it). |

You are missing the point. I would not care if there are bugs on the Mac client that are at least acknowledged. I do not believe in rewarding a company who disregards its customers. There is a complete lack of communication from CCP and its Mac customers. That is my biggest problem. Even the recently released update did not even mention Mac in the release notes. Furthermore I do enjoy Eve but I expect a certain amount of decency from a company who I am paying on a monthly basis.
The point of all this is to get the attention of CCP since no begging in these forums has even gotten a simple response such as "The Premium graphics version for the Mac is still being worked on but due issues still needing to be resolved we are unable to give an ETA." I would actually be happy with that response! But at this point it would take an awful lot for me to be willing to continue to pay.

Preaching to the choir here in the Mac forums isn't going to get any response from CCP. If every other post in all threads started on the forums asked for CCP to say something about the Mac client status, similar to the Boost Amarr campaign, that they wouldn't be able to ignore. You can annoy them into submission, or otherwise whine amongst ourselves about CCP's total silence on the matter. |

Edited by: Fayne Victormas on 12/06/2008 23:44:12 We're lucky to even have a client. The only reason CCP jumped into the Mac and Linux markets in the first place is because of the Transgaming software. I guarantee you there are plenty of people in CCP that are advocating they dump Linux and Mac support tomorrow. All of the plans they have for ambulation and future improvements are for better or worse pinned to MS and DX9/10.
So unless CCP decides they are going to rewrite EVE in ....oh...say OpenGL (yeah...thats gonna happen)....forget about there ever being a client with parity to the Windows version. I swear...everyone running around about the Premium client when 90% of the Macs out there struggle to get 25FPS doing anything more than light ratting. Give it a break already....
Failed experiment...move on...discover bootcamp.

Thanks again.

Other than accessing the market, skill changing etc I don't even bother with the OS X client. Should I? Dunno. If I were still using a Power PC based Mac, maybe. But then again even Apple seems to do away with PPC support in the next OS X release. I'm used to games being Windows only and that is how I view EVE as well. Didn't get into EVE until I could play it bootcamped. It's sad that the support for the OS X client isn't what it is but...meh.
Oh, and since I'm sure I'm much more of a newbalishous guy than the rest of you lot I think it's only fair that *I* alone can haz your stuff when you quit. |

No way.
I have 3 accounts that I run on an iMac & macbook. Certainly I'd like the FPS to be better, but then again, everyone always wants this from their games :)
I say, quit EVE & give me your loot. Hell, I might even start a 4th account when you leave^^v

btw guys, you can cancel your account early and still use the days you paid for. this way you don't forget.
i just signed back up after quitting before, disgusted with the mac client implementation. now its even worse. currently, my client crashes on login! i don't care enough to fix it after all the trouble i had last time. so they got 14$ from me. but that's all.
shame is i have always really wanted to play this game.

In the interests of entertainment and maybe using an alternative approach to getting CCP to respond, I give youà
CCP's no comment on the Premium client is somewhat comparable to a teenage boy not commenting on when he will lose his virginity.
Despite not knowing the precise date, you can be rest assured he is firmly dedicated to solving the problem. Furthermore, when the grand day does finally come, he'll be shouting it from the rooftops and grinning like an idiot.
Let's give CCP some space so they can do their *moves* and the premium client can reach its inevitable & climactic *release*.

Quote: Sorry for the long silence here is an update.
We are writing a Dev blog that should be out next week. It will cover things like ... Official Beta testing of the Premium Client (we still think the stability needs work).
So there you have it, we are ready to hand it over to some (not all players) and get them to give us some feedback and to test the living day lights out of it.
More details will be coming in the next week (most likely from CCP Whisper).

I would just like to point out that a decent amount of people who play EVE on linux don't use the official client. For example, I've been playing EVE on my linux box since about December, but according to the EVE servers, I've used linux for about a week, then switched over to XP (in reality, I switched over to wine).

The wait for mac premium version is annoying, but guys, develop such complex game is really hard. I develop games and I know what Im talking about. So here is the point, the cool graphics use Bill Gates technology (directX)... let's give time to Transgaming makes it real without need pay rights to the rich Bill.

premium version would be nice but really no need to rush on that part before ambulation comes out.
what we really need is better support for windowed mode and running multiple clients at the same time. when I do 2 separate installs of eve it still uses the same set of settings witch just doesn't work that well, I want to be able to run full screen (or close to) on the acc that I pvp on and then alt+tab to a windowed client with my empire mule, so that I can still see the pvp client in the background.
To the guy that said eve voice had problems on mac, it works just fine, had to use it yesterday because corp vent server was down.
as for lack of CCP response well they are more active than any other company (except for the planet, they make their announcements when they say they are going to if they have something to announce is a different thing but they still keep their promises of when they are going to say something). Now the usefulness of CCPs comments can be questioned (typical example in this thread) but don't say they don't say something, well at least we know they are enjoying themselves and are generally amused by the whole situation. ____________________________________________________ Reality is for those who have no imagination. |

There's really only one major company that pays attention to their Mac Client and that's Blizzard.
Blizzard added iTunes control to their World of Warcraft Mac Client before windows and they added an in-game movie recorder which isn't available to windows users. They added the in-game movie recorder over a year ago to the Mac client.
And if you venture to their forums, you'll see that Mac questions get answered more often than their PC counterpart.
To some corps, Mac isn't an after thought, it is a part of their goal towards world domination in the gaming market.
