I am a very long range planner, and I wanted to know what people thought of the ship progression I am doing. I know it is very skill-intensive, but I only play on weekends, so training for long term is my best plan. Anyway, the plan is : Purifier, Curse, Damnation. I am playing support in my fleet for level III missions, so I don't really have great gunnery skills, but good drone and missile skills. Tell me your opinion and any modifications you think I should make.

skip the curse, it's not great for missions anyways. The damnation tanks every lvl 4 mission with no probs at all, so it's nice for running them in a gang because your mates can fit their ships all out gank then. As intermediate ship maybe consider the guardian if your into support as you can rep your gang and help out with the frigs with your flight of hobgoblins. Also it's right on the way to command ships, whereas the curse needs quite a lot of skills that won't help you much in pve.

Edited by: Lord WarATron on 15/05/2008 13:48:55 Yeah drop the Purifyer as well if all you are doing is lvl3's, they are not very good ships. The Damnation training path means you are already a logistics pilot so only use damnation as a super tank if you are planning on using ganglinks to help your mates out.
You mentioned good missile skills so you can use the Sacreldge while training for Damnation --

Since a solo battleship can afk during lvl3 missions I wonder what you plan on needing to do?

Edited by: Siberys on 15/05/2008 19:04:43 No, this is all T2 ammar ships. I am flying fleet support, so therefor I have gang defence. And they are in this order: Covops frig, recon ship, command ship (Frigate, cruiser, battlecruiser)

No no no, what he is really is asking is why would anyone need "support" in lvl 3 mission? Especially if you're in a t2 ship? I solo lvl 3's in my t2 frig with absolutely no worries. ------------------------------------------

Possibly they're doing it because they are having fun working together in a group to achieve a goal. Rather than solo running lvl 4's in a Raven like 90% of the Hi-Sec mission running population with the only company being noob corp chat. I know what I would rather be doing.
ps. It's not the second option. ---

That is spot on. Me and my friends get three or four computers in one house and do missions together. It is massivly fun.

If you just want to get standings faster do this:
- Gang up with all your friends. - Have everyone do separate lvl 3 missions. - Have everyone pick the "me and my gang completed the mission."
Works like a charm. ------------------------------------------

I have to agree with the fun of doing gang ops in lvl 4's.
That being said, my group is in training for lvl 5's right now.
2 Domi's (one tank / drone dps, one logistics / tank) 1 Hyperion (Logistics / tank) 1 Abbadon (Tank / secondary DPS ) 1 Raven ( DPS / logistics )
Me in a Basilisk (watching a domi shield tank WC 4 blood raider gate is funny)
1 Vexor on frig control 1 Myr also on frig control
May be a bit of overkill for lvl 4s, but at one point we had a bad run of blockade lvl 4 where we kept killing the triggers... But we had zero losses.
Missions like that one are the reason why fleet ops (as we call em) are quite fun

If your group is armor-based, head STRAIGHT for damnation and gang skills/links. That is going to be the BEST possible ship for such a thing... Can field an exceptional tank, and can spew out superb gang bonuses...

I often run missions with friends. Sure we both take a hit in the income but at least it makes the dreadful task of PVE more entertaining.
I think Eve needs a SERIOUS PVE entertainment boost.

I dunno, there are a handful of level 4's I've been able to run in a Caracal that were pretty sweet in an "I shouldn't be able to get away with this nonsense" sort of way. I've done some level 3's in a Hawk and it was sort of neat. . .
Inviting friends to come along may reduce my money but at least it gives you someone to talk to while you blast the rats. And it makes using something silly (like a cerberus) for a level 4 all the more reasonable.
But honestly, I think that something needs to be done to make Eve PVE more interesting. It's very much Everquest in space - grind for the sake of the grind. Even though I don't like WoW and it's ilk the one thing it does well is make grinding feel a bit less like work and more like a game. I guess it's a bit harder to do when you're in a spaceship and all that jazz. . .

Anyways you'll spend more time moving from gate to gate then fighting if you do that. It'll be a waste of time. If you want to have fun in a gang then try PVP. Lots of fun, and aside from the cost T2 ships like the curse are generally excellent ships for that. _______________

I think that taking a group of frigs or cruisers into lowsec is exactly what you need for fun.
I agree the PvE in EvE needs a boost. You can play the game without "looking out the window", so 1990s. Ranges, ship types all you need to know, approach, keep at range, orbit, etc. No terrain so not worried about falling off a cliff and such.
Which is why we need to start being able to actually fly "into" the planets and moons and such. Terrain FTW.
Sigh, never mind. me/back to grinding isk.
And OP, really do the frigate ops thing. Taking down a cruiser or BC or 2 with frigs would be a blast.

Agreed. You should definitely try taking your friends on a frig joyride into lowsec; a mixture of assult frigs and ceptors would even be better.
Last time our corp did it, we had a helluva time. Around a dozen Assault Frigs/Faction Frigs/Stealth Bombers or so (We called it the Beez). When we first entered nullsec, the gatecamp there (3 HACs) immediately warpped off after seeing a dozen gate activations. Mobility is a great plus; we managed to take down battleships - a decently fitted Blarpy can dish out 200-300 dps easily. We got torn apart in the end, though; the alliance of the constellations where we joyriding organized a fleet to come after us, including tons of Minnie ships, dictors, etc. Definitely go try it.
(Sorry, just noticed I'm off topic)
