Edited by: Ruato on 14/05/2008 04:39:23 New nvidia drivers seem to be out (175.16), and after installing them, Vista 64bit threw BSOD at my face every time i started EVE.
Installing old (169.25) fixed the problem.
So might wanna stay away from that driver release (atleast if you are running 64bit vista).

This. But seriously, more people should have some type of spacer in their sigs to show it's not part of the post. |

Is there any immediate benefit to updating to the latest drivers? Last time I did that with my old Radeon 9200 EVE wouldn't load, and my screen reverted to 16 colours. Presently I have an 8800GT if that makes any difference.

Eve seemed to work but my other games wouldnt. Then I started getting BSOD's on startup. Going back to the old drivers fixed it all. ____ ôToo many times. I've got the same drivers for Vista 64... No problems here. Have you deinstalled the old drivers (169.25) before you have installed the new ones (175.16)?
If not, that had worked for me...

All nVidia drivers require you to uninstall the old ones before installing the new ones - don't ask me why, and don't ask me where it's documented, but it's certainly what's needed.

This.
another childish troll
back on topic, I stayed away from Vista 64 because the drivers for it,whichever piece of hardware, seem to be more of a hit or miss. Hence I got Vista 32 , which is much more stable, I know of 2 people who went from 64 to 32. The 64 bit drivers will be pants until MS releases the next Windows, which will only be 64(apparently) hence forcing driver writers to spend more time and resources on it(and more of us to test it for bug fixes)

Edited by: Benco97 on 14/05/2008 10:04:51 edited for dumbassery:
I got it wrong, it's my office PC that's using the latest, not this one. My main PC has to use "special" drivers from XFX for some reason and they haven't released a version of the 175.16 driver yet. My office PC IS using the latest though and it's running fine.

Edited by: C1yde on 14/05/2008 11:53:00 The drivers from XFX will just be the standard NVidia driver with a bell or a whistle added, ive yet to see one that isnt anyway. So you can probably use the standard driver with no troubles /edit to the card itself. Not sure about these troubles of course.

I've NEVER had to do that, and I've been using nVidia cards for years.

The rule for drivers:
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Don't download the new drivers like they are going to radically alter your gaming experience or something. -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is entitled to my opinion. |

I would just force the latest nvidia driver on but there must be SOME reason why they don't detect my XFX card? something must be different so i'm just going to stick with the XFX drivers.

When drivers are simply overwritten it can sometimes cause problems. Best action is to uninstall the drivers and then use a program such as driver cleaner to remove residual driver junk <- technical term before installing the new drivers.

Or bother to install new drivers over nicely working ones if you card is a generation or two behind. Its highly unlikely there will be any enhancements for you there.
You might get better results from updating the DirectX files from the MS website.

I installed xp service pack 3 and installed the new nvidia drives, had some beta ones installed I think.
I'm using the 8800 gts 512 and cod4 has a higher fps and so far both premium cliets are running fine on both monitors at 1600 x 900 each.
I think I'll skip vista though
